Third carrier was always supose to be a convential carrier. The confusion was with the project numbers of the first two. Originally they were called Type-001 and Type-001A, making the fourth carrier the Type-003. Then suddenly the 001A became Type-002, making the Type-004 the first nuclear carrier.

The hull seems to be close to be finished.

Coming along. Type 003 seems to be the mass produced second generation carrier with at least 3 planned.

I doubt they will build 3 carriers of that type.
The talk is they will build either 1 or 2 carriers of the Type 003 class.
Then they will switch to a nuclear powered aircraft carrier design.

This is an interim design they are building to test a CATOBAR configuration and get that technology rolling.
It can be used to train the tactics and develop the aircraft they will use in larger carriers.
When they get a working nuclear reactor they will make a larger supercarrier with that instead.

2 seems like a good number for Type 003. By late 2020s there should be 4 carriers: 1 001, 1 002, 2 003, with multiple 004 under construction. By then they'll have at least a dozen 055 cruisers and at least 30 052D destroyers which can provide sufficient escort.

Compare it with a Ford carrier. Configuration looks very much the same. Angled hull in the front, rectangled in the aft. Elevators is in the same place.

Im calling it right now. This will beat the Indian carrier to commissioning. No offense at all India. Just get your flattop done

They are moving in different speed thats for sure. The third Indian carrier wont be ready untill the 2030s. By then the Vikramadity will be on its last legs.

Basicly India will never have more then 2 active carriers, not before the 2040s anyway.

 3 EMALS catapults.
 2 or possibly 3 elevators.
50-60 fighters and helos (J-15T, Z-8 transport helos, Z-20F ASW helos)
2-4 AEW aircrafts (KJ-600)

Sick, easily the most powerful carrier every built in an Asian country (including Turkey and Russia).

I would say that its the most powerful carrier ever built outside the US navy. Somwhere between a Kitty Hawk and Ford class carrier.

The KJ-600 flying. Looks like it will be ready for the Type-003.

Main island seems to have been installed the last few days/week.

almost ready for launch, then it's on to the second 003

Lightspeed construction right now.
I think this lady will be launched well before the year ends. Maybe even by the late summer.
