The competition over who will supply Canada's next fighter jet already looks set to be fierce in the coming years.
Well if history repeats... as it often does... they will pick the American offer and then spend the next 50 years bitching about how a domestic alternative could have been built that would have been the best in the world hands down... lets call it Spear or perhaps Dart, or something launched from a Bow....

The days of Avro are long over. Canadians don't expect any domestic production of aircraft aside from those by Bombardier. But they
are not military specialists. And they even got coerced to selling out their latest and greatest regional jet thanks to US blackmail.

They did. But they sold it to Airbus. And that was a nightmare boeing was too stupid to anticipate. They are now completely cornered in the single aisle market.

Looks like the super hornet is out of the race. Now between gripen and F-35. I know what I would choose the gripen. It's more than enough for the Canadian air force, I actually thought they would have went the super hornet considering they are replacing the hornet would be easier in terms of training and maintenance and still good enough for their needs. Gripen is enough for their needs and cheaper and more reliable than the piece of crap F-35. But u will probably find the Canadians make the stupid choice of F-35, USA will be telling them that the bog bad Russians are coming to get them better buy F-35.

Re: Canadian Armed Forces: News
That is funny because some Avro Arrow fan created some movies showing evil Russia mounting several attacks against Canadian ports and airfields on their North Sea Passage as they call it... I normally skip through the talking crap so I am still not sure why the Russians would send MiG-31s and Tu-160s to attack such targets... or indeed why they don't just strike such targets with sub launched cruise missiles... cheaper, faster, easier, safer....
But anyway the maker is a bit of a fanatic so showing the Arrows shooting down all comers they felt the need to prove their point by showing the same attacks defended with F-35s with the latter of course failing miserably...
If they select either the Gripen or F-35 he is going to explode because both lack range and speed for the job of saving the world against an invading Russia...

The more countries buy that tub of sht the better... their defence budgets will be swamped with the operation costs of that hangar queen and they will either have to increase their spending or suck funds away from more useful projects... and likely both... which is all good for the rest of the world of course.

Canada to create four new embassies in Estonia, Lithuania, Slovakia, and Armenia.
Canadian military presence in Latvia is planned to be at least doubled soon; currently there are 700 Canadian troops in Latvia, in addition to another 600 elsewhere on the "NATO's eastern flank."
Canada plans to increase its presence in Latvia from the current single battalion to a brigade (by comparison a regular military battalion is 300 - 1 000 troops strong, while a brigade has 2 000 - 5 000 troops).

That is going to cost a bit of money... and with getting F-35s too...
Interesting that this conflict in the Ukraine was created by the US to sell US gas and also F-35s... will be interesting.
