compare it to the Feb 3rd map after the siege was broken
From this map it looks like SAA wont be advancing, for now, cutting through the moderate terrorist areas as the area in front has been effectively blocked by the Kurdish advance and the ISIS presence. So SAA from now on might only be advancing to the Turkish border by bulldozing the ISIS areas.

But aren't the Kurds in sort of a coalition with the SAA? I know that they aren't attacking each other at least? So why would there be a problem to let the SAA pas through the Kurds' newly gained territory?

Probably an old video when their was lot of betrayal in the initial stages and terrorists with international backing were able sneak into military areas. Kurds are of different type....only ones to be trusted are the left leaning guys who can be worked along with. Jaysh Al Thuwar (JAT), fighting along YPG and in the SDF are not to be trusted and they have saying SAA will not be allowed to take Azaz and they will fight the SAA to take Azaz if SAA reached their earlier.Bolt wrote:But aren't the Kurds in sort of a coalition with the SAA? Now this is really important development. Kurds form a tampon zone between Turkish terrorists and Syrian army. Now they have to capture Azaz and border crossing and then push east to Euphrates river to connect with Kurds there and cut Daesh from Turkey as well as Erdogan's dreams. Now SAA could easier concentrate in terrorists inside and around Allepo as they don't need to defend their backs on the north.

Moscow. February 17. INTERFAX.RU - Turkey would like to conduct a ground operation on Syrian territory, informed the world's media with reference to the statement of the official Turkish representative in Istanbul.
"We want to carry out a ground operation in conjunction with our international allies," a Turkish official said to reporters.
According to him, "without a ground operation to stop the war in Syria is impossible". However, he acknowledged that it "will not be a unilateral operation of Turkey against Syria.
Earlier readiness to conduct jointly with the U.S. and other members of the international coalition led by Washington, a ground operation in Syria, said Saudi Arabia and the UAE. According to the Pentagon, Saudi Arabia after the break, resumed its participation in air strikes on positions of the terrorist group "Islamic state" (IG, is prohibited in Russia - if) in Syria.
The Iranian foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has warned the Saudi authorities that the deployment of troops on Syrian territory without consent from Damascus would be a violation of international laws.
However, as reported by the Supervisory Board for human rights in Syria, on Tuesday Turkish artillery continued on Saturday the shelling of Syrian territory.
The blows were concentrated on the Kurdish militias, which this week took the town of tal Rifat, considered one of the strongholds of the rebels-Islamists in the province of Aleppo. After this, the Kurds drove the rebels from near tal-Rifat small settlement Kfar-Nasekh.
Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu called the Syrian Kurds "Legion of Russian mercenaries".
A number of countries, including the U.S. and Russia, and the UN security Council yesterday condemned the Turkish artillery attack and demanded from Turkey to stop the shelling.

I had wanted this to happen and had written the same few pages back coz Deir-Ez-Zor can only fight its way out of the siege with fresh reinforcements in men and material flown in by air. Securing and enlarging the perimeter will allow the airport conducive for IL-76/An-124 operations. Seems like that is what is going on now. Not sure, but hope so.

It looks a lot as the IRI Baher 23mm rifle, but the bolt looks for a smaller calibre and the round is really slow on that clip. Bossibly Garage build 14.5mm. It is a 14.5mm round. You can see at extraction.

I originally thought it was ULR 50, but wasn't sure, then tried looking for Chinese, Pakistani, NATO AMRs. The round is rather slow but the rifle seems very light and basic.
