but as i got it they wanted to let tanks compete against eachother, and if they cant get some foreing countrys with some foreing tanks of same classes to compete and have to drive with the same machines agains eachother then it is kind of a joke, but till that... then lets pop the beer get out the chips Neutral
Gonna have to agree with TR1 i just cant see it as a joke, yet at the same time i gotta agree with you that there needs to be more MBT from different countries, like a sort of RED FLAG for tanks. thumbsup

May be you have not noticed that the tank biathlon competition has ALREADY ASSURED foreign participation on theirs own MBTs for the competition the next year.

Moreover you have managed to not even notice that just in the competition of the last week was ALREADY PRESENT REPRESENTING OFFICIALS of some the NATO nations expected to take part to the competition next year ,precisely in the person of US Army Colonel R. Taft Blackburn and German Army Brigadier General Reiner Schwalb, so to take precise notices (video included) of all the competition's elements, so to allow perfect training for the domestic crew and theirs MBT  Very Happy

You can see and hear them at 4:01 and 4:15 of this video on the last day of the 2013 competition :

    http://tvzvezda.ru/news/forces/content/201308171354-eq6x.htm

Now all what remain to see is only with what MBT NATO's crews will come in 2014 (Brigadier General Reiner Schwalb ,after seeing the competition of the last week with T-72B, has already declared that it will request German MoD to let German crew to participate with latest Army version of Leopard 2  Wink )....in facts the rain of critics on US Defense Secretary's Chuck Hagel for its "reflective" acceptance of the Russian invitation to the 2014 competition is very strange.

At the end of day ,in facts, with theirs........supposed........ superior FCS, stabilization, suspension, ballistic computer, sight etc.. should be a true joke for NATO MBTs crew to easily humiliate the "poorly designed", "technologically inferior", "cramped" Russian MBTs ,manned by "inferiorly trained" eastern tank's crew Laughing Laughing .

I look forward to see next years Tank Biathlon with as many foreign participants as possible.
But please paint the tanks in different colors, the whole thing looks a bit like a kindergarden....or worse, a bit too gay!

     Darker colors please.

    Yes, i agree.

Naturally is necessary to maintain crossed the fingers about abrupt "U-turns" in particular by part of US delegation ; as already mentioned the US Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel's acceptance of the invitation has been heavily attacked by US media and military analysts over the risk to crumble the image of "high tech", "superior design" and "superior crew training" so attentively and slowly constructed in all those years in the public imaginary after Gulf War and.......just "vis-a vis" against the Russians Cool

To be honest, the latest declarations by part of US Army Col. R. Taft Blackburn don't appear encouraging..........

Shoigu previously claimed that US Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel had approved US participation in 2014, but Colonel R. Taft Blackburn, US Army Attaché in Russia, said this was not the case.

“It is an interesting idea, but there are many issues at stake,” was all that Blackburn said when asked by RIA Novosti whether the Pentagon is considering the risk that Russia could interpret US unwillingness to take part as weakness.

Blackburn then beat a hasty retreat into the VIP stand, as an Armenian tank thundered past.

    To be clear:

Russia used a T-72B3, and all others bog standard T-72B obr 1988/89 ?

and, china used a domestic Type 96A?

How does the 96A compare with the T-72B3, or even T-90A? It seems to be quite a powerful tank and very mobile... Maybe it just *seems* as often with chinese stuff.

They used models of T-72 those countries had, if they had some better modernized they could bring them like China did.

No expert on chinese tanks, actually pretty limited knowledge maybe someone else here has some insight of chinese military issues.

From what I heard the Chinese Type 96A cross-country capability was less than that of the Russian T-72, but the Type 96A outscored every tank in accuracy and did not miss one shot on the first day.

Not a surprise considering it is loosely based on a 40's tank (T-55).

Somehow Beijing are dissatisfied with the result and they are accusing Russia of being unequal and unfair...

I myself do not have faith in Chinese weapons, although I have to admit that Beijing is the master of copying.

Chinese shot APFSDS, all other countries shot HEAT, it's not a problem to hit target with faster round like APFSDS, but harder with slow HEAT.

Yes the chinese Type-96A and crew were pretty good in shooting.

Not sure if that is true, but i thought all of them were shooting APFSDS training rounds. Do you have a source?
