    St. Petersburg-based Klimov Company started development of next-generation production engine TV7-117SM for light military-transport aircraft Il-112, ITAR-TASS reports with reference to CEO of the company, Alexander Vatagin.

    "We have received the performance specification for this engine, which assumes its further development in compliance with the program for development of the transport aircraft for Russian air forces", - he said.

    Vatagin stated that the new engine matches its foreign analogues in terms of overall performance; moreover, some of its parameters are even better compared to the analogues.

    "The engine features modular design, which allows decreasing cost of maintenance and time needed to repair it. This engine is one of the most fuel-efficient ones in its class, it offers low emission level and the highest power-to-weight ratio (2500 h.p.) in its class", - the CEO added noting that “engines for other advanced aircraft may be derived from TV7-117SM”.

    Il-112 is a light transport aircraft, which is being developed in Russia. It should replace An-24 and An-26 aircraft. Military-transport version of the aircraft was developed for airlift delivery and paradrop of units of Russian airborne forces as well as cargo transportation. The jet may be operated from unpaved runways. According to Russian Ministry of Defense, Russian air forces need several tens of aircraft of the type.

    Ilyushin Company is going to complete development of Il-112V light military-transport aircraft by 2020, RIA Novosti reports with reference to Deputy Director General on Program Management of Ilyushin Company, Sergey Artyukhov.

    “The development should be completed by 2020,” Artyukhov said.

    The contract with Russian Ministry of Defense for development of the aircraft was signed in December 2014. At present the development of design documentation is being completed; VASO is starting preparation for launching production of the turboprop.

    In December Ilyushin Company reported that the first two Il-112V prototypes would be manufactured in 2016; they will be used for testing. The aircraft’s maiden flight is scheduled for the same year. About 30 Russian enterprises and around 50 suppliers will be involved in development of Il-112V.

    Il-112V is designed for transportation, airlift delivery and paradrop of light combat vehicles and weapons, cargo and troopers as well as commercial cargo transportation.

    Ilyushin Company was established in 1933 (part of United Aircraft Corporation). The company specializes in development, upgrade and testing of aircraft, preparation and support of aircraft production as well as provision of continued airworthiness of operated Il aircraft; it is cooperating with the Russia’s leading suppliers, scientific research organizations and the largest air carriers.

    So what they are talking about is a 6 ton payload aircraft to replace the An-24 and An-26 and An-32, so really you could probably get away with two versions of the Il-112, with one using standard engines of modest performance with a passenger model and a cargo model to replace the An-24 and An-26 respectively to make it cheap and effective in those roles, while an uprated version with more powerful engines for operations in hot and high environments to replace the An-32.

    The Il-112T transport model has already been proposed and the Il-112V (confusingly the Il-112V and Il-112B are the same aircraft with the B and V being the cyrillic/latin equvalents... ie B in cyrillic is a V in the English language.)

    In such a case what we would need is a new model Il-112 with a lot more power for taking off at high altitudes and hot conditions.. the engines in the other versions are about 2,500hp engines so something in the 4-5,000hp range would be useful or perhaps a light jet engine...

    Actually a jet version could also replace the An-72 in service... and of course when they are all entering service the An-140 can be used till they are worn out and then replaced with more Ilyusions too. Smile

    The company "Ilyushin" is working for the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation on the draft of the IL-112V. The plane carrying capacity 6 tons should replace the old An-26 aircraft.

    Russia's New Military Transport Plane Set to Make Its Maiden Flight in 2017

    The Ilyushin Il-112, Russia's brand new light military transport plane, is slated to make its maiden flight in 2017, said Yury Borisov, a Russian Deputy Minister of Defense.

    The aircraft's mass production is expected to be launched in 2019.

    The twin-engine turboprop plane, developed by the Ilyushin Aviation Complex (JSC IL), will be manufactured by the Voronezh Aircraft Production Association at an aircraft plant in Voronezh, located some 400 kilometers (250 miles) south of Moscow. It will replace the Antonov An-26.

    Russia's Ministry of Defense plans to purchase at least 35 Ilyushin Il-112 planes. Earlier, JSC IL said the company was ready to deliver more than 60 Il-112 aircraft to the military.

    The transport plane is designed to carry out missions in any geographic or weather conditions. It has a payload of 6 tons and can travel a maximum distance of 5,000 kilometers (3100 miles).

    The project, launched over a decade ago, was canceled in 2011, but the work on the Il-112 resumed in 2013.

    The news is related not to the total number of purchased aircraft, but those purchased for the first state acquisition program - the one up to 2020.

    Comments claim that the reason is likely due to delays in organizing the production of the aircraft; it may not be ready for production until 2019; which will make the acquisition of 62 aircraft until 2020 very unlikely and the plans will have to be changed to become more modest.

    The article just states that some of the components on the Il-112V are secret and wont be exported.

    The part:

    Savelyev added that in the future, "Ilyushin" create "light version" IL-112, which will not be set to a prohibited export equipment.

    Basically says they will develop a version with non secret parts that can be exported.


    That might mean the domestic Il-112v has secret navigation equipment or other special items like jammers or EW equipment... it might even have a laser or other weapon type... who knows, but it is something they don't want to export... yet.

    Interesting, I would also guess they will go for all-electric slats if they are doing this for flaps...
    And I'd expect this experience on 112V to also be leveraged on the RU-CHI widebody JV,
    as well as the future Superjet stretch (and non-stretch Superjet "NEO"/etc).

    ...Possibly also MiG-35?
