The floating dock "Sviyaga" with the nuclear submarine "K-3" will arrive in Belomorsk on August 31

In early September, the dock will reach St. Petersburg, after which the boat will be towed to Kronstadt, where it will become part of the museum exposition.

MOSCOW, August 31. / TASS /. The Sviyaga floating dock, which is making an inter-fleet passage from the Northern Fleet to the Baltic by inland waterways, will arrive in Belomorsk on Tuesday. This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.

"The floating dock" Sviyaga "with the nuclear submarine" K-3 "" Leninsky Komsomol "will arrive in Belomorsk on Tuesday," the message says.

In the near future, the dock with the submarine will pass the White Sea-Baltic Canal and in the first ten days of September will arrive in St. Petersburg at the Severnaya Verf. There the submarine will be withdrawn from the floating dock and then towed to Kronstadt, where it will become part of the museum exposition.

USC head: offered the fleet several options for the appearance of the nuclear destroyer "Leader"

Moscow. September 3rd. INTERFAX - The General Director of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) Alexei Rakhmanov, in an interview with Interfax columnist Pavel Koryashkin, spoke about the construction of nuclear submarines, the repair of heavy cruisers, the prospects of the Leader destroyer and the equipping of ships with Zircon missiles.

    - Alexey Lvovich, has USC completed the relocation of the main office to St. Petersburg? Is the final cost of the relocation already clear?

    - The move ends. Most of the employees have already settled in the office on Vasilievsky Island. There will be another "wave" in the fall - when those who work with the state defense order will move to St. Petersburg - they need premises with special conditions that meet the requirements of preserving state secrets. Such conditions are now being created.

We will understand the final cost of relocation after several years, when both ad hoc and regular expenses, including those on business trips to Moscow, become obvious. We initially assumed that the total amount would be about 1.5 billion rubles.

    - How do you assess the fulfillment of the state defense order by USC enterprises this year? How many warships and submarines are surrendered this year, how many next?

    - In May, we handed over to the Navy the lead nuclear submarine with cruise missiles of the Yasen-M project - Kazan. This is the future of the Russian submarine fleet, and we expect that Yaseni will form a large series that will reliably protect not only the country's borders, but also its interests in the world arena.

The logistics support vessel Vsevolod Bobrov and the base minesweeper Georgy Kurbatov have just been handed over. And by the end of the year, our enterprises are completing the construction of four more ships and the repair of three.

Next year we will continue the construction of serial submarines of the Borey-A and Yasen-M projects, as well as start testing the nuclear submarines Krasnoyarsk and Generalissimo Suvorov.

    - At what stage of work on new nuclear submarines - "Prince Oleg" and "Novosibirsk"? Are there plans to hand them over to the military this year?

    - These ships are undergoing factory tests and are among those to be handed over this year.

    - Many are closely following the fate of two heavy cruisers - the aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov and the nuclear-powered Admiral Nakhimov. What is the readiness of the ships now? What are the terms of their return to service?

    - The progress of the repair of the heavy aircraft-carrying cruiser Admiral Kuznetsov is under the special control of the leadership of the Ministry of Defense, the Navy and the management of the corporation.

The main reason why Zvezdochka will not be able to deliver the aircraft-carrying cruiser in 2022 is the failure to repair the Kirov-Energomash - we are talking about the main turbo-gear units of the ship's power plant.

Currently, the work has been launched in full. The systems and mechanisms of the cruiser are being repaired, bulky equipment is purchased and loaded onto the ship, electrical work is performed. The ship is preparing for the second phase of the dock repairs in the summer of 2022.

The situation is similar for "Admiral Nakhimov", its repairs should be completed next year.

    - In what year may the USC begin to transfer ships and submarines with Zircon hypersonic missiles to the military?

    - The decision to equip our ships with this or that type of missile in any case remains with the Ministry of Defense. When such a decision is made, we will implement it.

    - In 2019, you said that the USC was preparing for the start of the serial construction of the Leader nuclear destroyers. You recently announced that you are expecting a new technical assignment for the destroyers from the Ministry of Defense. Will these destroyers get to the new GPV?

    - The issue of the construction of the Leader destroyers, as well as the formation of a new GPV, is in the exclusive jurisdiction of the Navy and the Ministry of Defense as a state customer. For their part, the USC enterprises completed the preliminary design and offered the fleet several options for the appearance of the ship.

Now the military department will have to decide how it sees a promising destroyer, if it considers it necessary for the fleet.

    - When, in your estimation, will Russia start building large ships - cruisers, aircraft carriers? Will they be in the new GPV?

    - It has already been said about the formation of the SAP. As for the ships of large dimensions, they are being built now. We can recall the large landing ships of project 11711 with improved characteristics (serial numbers 303 and 304), the rear support ships of the project 23120 Elbrus, as well as the Vsevolod Bobrov, which has just been handed over to the navy.

Finally, we have the frigates of the far sea zone 22350, which are a good illustration of the fact that new types of weapons allow the construction of ships with a high degree of saturation of weapons with a lower displacement.

Shvabe presents new binoculars for the Navy.

Experimental samples of binoculars for monitoring remote objects and the surrounding area were shown by the holding "Shvabe" of the Rostec State Corporation. The new devices were created in the interests of the Navy of the Russian Federation.

The Zagorsky Optical and Mechanical Plant (ZOMZ) of the Shvabe holding presented two new products − a large-magnification binoculars with image stabilization BSF 20x50 and a small-sized binoculars FPF 8x20.

The BSF binoculars are designed for observing remote objects and determining the distance to them by linear and angular dimensions. The device's stabilization mechanism does not require power supply, turns on without a time delay and provides the ability to pan at high speed without losing image quality, including from a movable base.

The BFT binoculars are designed to monitor the surrounding area during daylight hours. The device has an eight-fold magnification and separate focusing, which provides increased sharpness and contrast of the image, has compact dimensions and weighs up to 300 grams. Like BSF binoculars, it determines the distance to objects by their angular dimensions. Due to the coating, the optical and body parts of the BFT are resistant to aggressive environments.

"Both optical devices are used in a wide temperature range from -50 to +70°C. Their high-strength and sealed magnesium alloy housing is filled with dry nitrogen. Both devices are made in accordance with the state standard of resistance to external influences, which is applied to the equipment of marine equipment" – Konstantin Pertsev, interim General Director of ZOMZ, said.

Currently, the products are undergoing preliminary tests. For the first time, prototypes of binoculars were shown at the international military-technical forum "Army-2021" in Kubinka.

    Nice...

Загорский оптико-механический завод (ЗОМЗ) холдинга «Швабе» представил два новых изделия − бинокль большого увеличения со стабилизацией изображения БСФ 20x50 и малогабаритный бинокль БПФ 8x20.

The Zagorsky Optical and Mechanical Plant (ZOMZ) of the Shvabe holding presented two new products − a large-magnification binoculars with image stabilization BSF 20x50 and a small-sized binoculars FPF 8x20.

For those not familiar with the terms for optics the first number is the magnification and the second number is the width of the lens you point at what you are looking at, so 20 x 50 means each of the two lenses pointed at the target are 50mm across and the magnification is 20x, while the smaller binoculars are 8x20 which means 20mm objective lenses and 8x magnification.

The larger the magnification the closer everything appears... it does not make things appear bigger, it makes them appear closer so with a 20x magnification an object that is 100m away appears to be 5m away.

The more powerful the magnification the harder they are to hold steady but the 20x binoculars have autostabilisation system built in to make them easier to use.

If you divide the objective lens by the magnification you get the exit pupil diameter... the exit pupil diameter is the diameter of the focused image.

Normal human pupils are about 5mm but in the dark can be 7mm so exit pupil diameters of less than this makes the focused image hard to see... it appears wobbly and in and out of focus.

The smaller the objective lens the lighter and more compact the binoculars are, but it means they let in less light and are less useful in low light or dark conditions.

Big objective lenses give a better view at any distance, but make the binoculars bigger and heavier and more expensive.

Interesting development, reminds me of how the Soviets had bombers on the Island of Socotra just a few years after the UK left Aden!

In the Black Sea, submarines of the Russian Navy practiced a missile strike on the ships of a conditional enemy.

In accordance with the combat training plan in the Black Sea, the submarines of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Navy "Stary Oskol" and "Veliky Novgorod" practiced a missile strike on the ships of a conditional enemy. For targeting, the submarines used data transmitted to them from the Ka-27PL helicopter and the Be-12 aircraft performing the task of monitoring the situation in the water area in combat conditions.

This is reported by the press service of the Southern Military District.

After receiving the coordinates of the targets, the submarines made electronic missile launches at targets that were simulated by a group of Russian small anti-submarine ships and auxiliary vessels.

Thus, submarines, surface ships and vessels, as well as naval aviation were involved in the exercises.

Not only Russian servicemen are being trained in the Black Sea, but also the military of a number of other countries. In particular, today five ships of the North Atlantic Alliance entered the territorial waters of Georgia, as reported by the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of this state. In this ship group there were not only ships of the Black Sea countries. Two of them were flying the flags of Italy and Spain. The other three ships belong to Bulgaria, Romania and Turkey.

I've seen a tv serie about an Arleigh Burke, a recent one, where they just put a piece of aluminium (the same as the one you can find in your kitchen) of 2x2m on the pieer behind the ship and set sail in "stealth" mode. The Kirov following the ship was seeing on its radar the aluminium while the Burke was moving unseen, even if it was like 15km away. The guy said the Burke is a stealth ship.

Very funny when you see this image how their propaganda is so biased lol1 .

Scanned this pic from an old aviation magazine of an Su-33 taking off from the Kuznetsov during a Mediterranean deployment in the 90's. The picture was taken from a nosy P-3 Orion and the Su-33 had to take evasive action immediately after takeoff to avoid a collision. The aircraft in question seems to be a development model in a non standard paint job fitted out with a recce pod.

Today, the crew of the large anti-submarine ship "Vice Admiral Kulakov" prevented the hijacking of a civilian vessel by pirates in the Gulf of Guinea of the Atlantic Ocean.

At about 13 o'clock, a distress signal was received on the Russian ship from the container ship "Lucia" flying the flag of Panama from the Republic of Togo to the Republic of Cameroon. It was reported about an attempt to seize the vessel by unknown armed men on a high-speed boat. The crew of the container ship, after giving a distress signal, in accordance with the instructions, took refuge in the engine room.

A Ka-27PS helicopter with a marine unit was immediately lifted from the Russian ship, which immediately headed to the area of the incident. When a military helicopter approached, the pirates left the ship, boarded a high-speed boat and headed towards the shore at full speed.

The helicopter circled the ship. Later, an anti-terror group was landed from the Vice Admiral Kulakov BOD on board the container ship, which released the crew and began to inspect the vessel.

A detachment of ships and vessels of the Northern Fleet consisting of the large anti-submarine ship Vice Admiral Kulakov, the medium sea tanker Akademik Pashin and the rescue tugboat Altai have been operating in the Gulf of Guinea of the Atlantic Ocean for three weeks. Russian sailors ensure the safety of civil navigation by monitoring the surface situation with the help of carrier-based aircraft.

During the anti-piracy watch, the North Sea crew inspected several civilian vessels and prevented the seizure of the Panamanian cargo ship.

The long-distance campaign of the BOD "Vice Admiral Kulakov" began on June 28 with the exit from the main base of the Northern Fleet - Severomorsk. First, the ship's crew took part in the Main Naval Parade in Kronstadt, and after its completion, they worked out individual episodes of practical actions in the Atlantic during the command and staff training on the management of forces and troops of the Northern Fleet.

From August 18 to September 23, the North Sea fleet operated in the Mediterranean Sea. During this time, they made business visits to Algeria, Syria and Cyprus, and also conducted a number of exercises on various types of defense of a detachment of ships at sea crossing and worked out the search for submarines of a conditional enemy.

Since leaving the base of the BPC "Vice Admiral Kulakov" has traveled more than 20 thousand nautical miles, visiting the ports of five foreign countries.

Also, this is why they need more Bykov-class OPVs, there was no need for destroyer to waste time with this, it could have been doing something more important

Indian Ocean "belongs" to the Pacific Fleet. Either the PacFleet gets a few Bykovs or the Black Sea Fleet takes over the Indian Ocean. Or the Navy sets up a new Indian Ocean Flotilla.

The incident happened in Gulf of Guinea in the Atlantic Ocean.
