Bolivia intends to turn to Russia for a loan to purchase a presidential aircraft, and various weapons

BUENOS AIRES, Aug. 5. (ITAR-TASS). Bolivia intends to formally appeal to Russia for a loan worth about $ 100 million for the purchase of the presidential aircraft, and various weapons, told the South American republic, Defense Minister Walker San Miguel.

According to him, the Russian loan will help replace outdated equipment, serving the past 20 years, Bolivia, in particular, helicopters, trucks, boats. Without a doubt, Russia’s alliances in Latin America are part of a greater geopolitical game. Yet, it should not be forgotten why there is so much resentment within the region against the U.S. Perhaps, the displeasure is the consequence of decades of U.S. intervention in Latin American affairs in order to maintain strategic interests. Russia has been accused by numerous editorial writers of possessing too much leverage over Latin American; it is understandable, if not forgivable, that Washington perceives Russian-Latin American relations as incursions into the U.S.’ vicinity of interest, no matter how archaic such thinking may be. Inarguably, Russia has “bought” the interest of Latin American governments that are not totally committed to Washington’s policies; it has furnished the region with investments in energy infrastructure, strengthened military capabilities, and provided means to combat drug trafficking.

It is further evidence of Americas double standards... Russia is not allowed a sphere or "backyard" even on its borders in Europe or anywhere else. The US should not be allowed the same.

I rather suspect most of central and south america are sick of being told what they can or cannot do from Washington.

Washington has protected the region from nothing really... except if you count Europe... except they didn't really lift a finger to help Argentina in its campaign to get the Malvinas back, yet at the same time the US has blocked most efforts at improving arms... the standard central and south american fighter has been a Skyhawk or F-5 or very early model F-16 or Mirage. You also get the feeling that along with limiting their military force the US has used its position to limit economic and political growth there too.

The cold war is over and I think Russia should do what they want and where they want. There is huge potential for trade and good relations that benefit Russia and the region itself... perhaps they can demand that the US starts naming itself more accurately... the United States of North America that does not include Canada. I mean a single province of Canada could split up into several states and then become a republic and call themselves the united states of America... just as various central and south american countries can do the same. Very arrogant of the US to proclaim itself as the only republic of those two continents.

Russia, Nicaragua to boost military cooperation

Russia is ready to welcome young military men from Nicaragua for a course of study and training, chief deputy of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Alexander Postnikov said during his visit to Managua.

He also said that Russia and Nicaragua agreed to boost military-technical cooperation.

In Managua Mr. Postnikov led the Russian delegation at the celebrations dedicated to the 33d anniversary of Nicaragua`s armed forces.

Russia to supply armored vehicles to Nicaragua

Russia’s Interior Ministry has signed an agreement with Nicaragua on supplying the "Tiger" armored vehicles to that country.

“These vehicles will be used in operations on fighting the organized crime in our country”, Nicaragua's Minister of Interior Ana Isabel Morales Mazún said at a meeting in Moscow on Thursday.

She said the "Tigers" would be used by the units of the Nicaraguan special troops and praised the high quality of the Russian armored vehicles.

Russia sends more wheat to Nicaragua

The fourth consignment of humanitarian supplies from Russia consisting of 25,000 tons of wheat has arrived in Nicaragua.

According to government spokesperson Rosario Murillo, humanitarian assistance from Russia is of great importance for Nicaragua, where poverty level remains high.

Thanks to the wheat supplies from Russia, Nicaragua has succeeded in stabilizing bread prices, Murillo said.

A total of 100,000 tons of wheat worth over $35mln supplied by Russia to Nicaragua since November last year, fully meets the country’s annual demand for wheat.

Nicaragua’s parliament votes for Russian military presence

Nicaragua’s parliament ratified the government’s decision allowing Russian military units, planes and ships to visit the Central American country.

The voting took place at an urgent request of Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega.

Under the document, ships and planes of Russia, Cuba, Mexico and Venezuela will be able to visit Nicaragua in the first half of 2014. Their crews are allowed to participate "in exchange of experience and training" of Nicaragua’s servicemen.

Moreover, Russian servicemen together with Nicaragua’s armed forces will take part in a joint patrolling of the republic’s territorial waters in the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean from January 1 to June 30, 2014.

The main task of these operations is to fight drug trafficking. The US servicemen were issued a similar permit.

I'm looking prophetic right now because it looks like I've been proven right guys, China and Russia are working together on the strategic creation of the Nicaraguan Canal to rival the Panama Canal, it's been well established that the current govt. of Panama is a puppet state created by the Pentagon (which has been accused of instigating riots in Venezuela) that compromised the reliability of the Panama Canal which explains why the Chinese are financing a $40 billion rival to the Panama Canal because they find it geo-politically and strategically necessary. Russia deems it necessary to create military alliance with Nicaragua (which is a pro-Russian anti-American govt) they seem to believe that the Nicaraguan Canal maybe under threat of invasion by NATO in the possible future:

VLADIMIR PUTIN: Our bilateral cooperation is of strategic importance, as Brazil is a responsible member of the international community whose political influence is steadily increasing; it is also the largest country in Latin America and one of the leading economies in the world. It is enough to mention its active participation in BRICS, the G20 and a number of Latin American regional organisations (CELAC, MERCOSUR, UNASUR).

We support Brazil as a deserving and strong candidate for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council. I am sure that this powerful and fast-developing country is destined to play an important role in the emerging polycentric world order.

I want to emphasise that Brazil is one of Russia's key partners in Latin America. We have long-standing relations of friendship, mutual respect and trust. We are actively developing political dialogue, defence, scientific, technological and humanitarian cooperation, as well as economic and investment ties.

Over the last ten years, bilateral trade has grown almost three-fold and reached $5.5 billion in 2013. Our companies maintain close contacts through the Brazil-Russia Business Council. The citizens of our countries no longer need visas to travel. Dozens of Russia's best universities that joined Brazilian educational programme Science without Borders are ready to welcome students from Brazil. Cultural exchanges have become a regular practice.

During the visit, we want to discuss areas for further developing cooperation and to outline new joint projects in energy, investment, innovation, agriculture, science and technology. We plan to sign a large package of documents relating to a variety of industries, including between specialised agencies, public and private companies, and research and educational institutions.

QUESTION: The current level of economic and trade relations between Russia and Brazil is far below the potential that has been proclaimed by the countries' leaders. What steps do you consider necessary to accelerate the realisation of this potential? What are the obstacles that slow us down and prevent us from taking bilateral trade to a completely new level?

VLADIMIR PUTIN: Indeed, despite the good results achieved, there is still an untapped potential in trade and economic cooperation with Brazil. Moreover, there was a decrease in bilateral trade (3.3% in 2013), caused by global economic instability. In order to address the situation we need to diversify our trade ties by increasing the share of high-tech products and engineering goods, as well as by developing cooperation in aviation, energy and agriculture.

Russian companies are interested in the Brazilian market. Our countries' businesses have launched a number of successful investment projects in energy, engineering and pharmaceutical industries. For example, Russia’s Rosneft and the Brazilian HRT oil and gas company are jointly exploring and producing hydrocarbons in the Solimões river basin. In the state of Santa Catarina, the Power Machines corporation is setting up production of hydro turbines of up to 100 MW for their subsequent delivery to the markets of Brazil and other MERCOSUR countries. BIOCAD is developing a research, education and training centre in Brazil, designed to produce modern innovative medicines for the treatment of cancer.

I am sure that such projects will help bring our bilateral trade and economic cooperation to a more mature level, which meets the current and future capabilities of our developing countries.

QUESTION: Brazil will pass the baton of hosting a world football championship to Russia. Are you following the FIFA World Cup? Which part of Brazil's experience in preparing and hosting the event has attracted your attention and can be taken on board while organising the 2018 World Cup?

VLADIMIR PUTIN: I try to follow the World Cup as far as my work schedule allows. The Latin American countries’ teams have put on a display of football that has real flare and talent. Unfortunately, our team did not leave the group, but, in my opinion, they tried their best.

At the invitation of Brazil and FIFA Presidents, I am going to visit the final match of the Championship to attend the ceremony of passing the baton from Brazil to Russia. In 2018, Russia will host this most popular global sporting event for the first time in its history.

In February-March, we successfully hosted the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in Sochi and know exactly what a challenge it is to organise such a huge event. We are analysing Brazil’s experience very carefully. Your country is yet to host the Olympic Games in 2016. Representatives of several ministries and organisations, including the Ministry of Sports and the Russia-2018 Organising Committee, are in constant contact with Brazilian colleagues. They have already visited Brazil and I am sure they will go there again more than once.

It is worth noting that Russia plans to take the FIFA World Cup a step further in some areas. For example, we passed a federal law establishing a special visa regime for foreigners who help organise the 2018 Championship, and enabling not only the official participants, such as the athletes, referees, coaches and others, but also the fans to visit Russia without visas right before and during the competition. The history of football championships has never seen anything like this before.

I am sure that the World Cup in Brazil will be a bright page in the history of football. I wish the Brazilian organisers every success in completing it. As for us, in 2018, we will do everything possible to give the world an unforgettable football celebration and show genuine Russian hospitality.

QUESTION: How much attention will be paid during the talks in Latin America to the issues of the modern world order, which enables some players on the international arena to unilaterally claim significantly more extensive rights, including to spy even on those leaders that they call partners and to hack their phones?

VLADIMIR PUTIN: The 21st century world is globalised and interdependent. Therefore, no state or group of countries can unilaterally tackle major international problems and any attempts to build a separate “oasis of stability and security” are doomed to failure.

In order to meet numerous challenges and threats we have to stop trying to impose development models on other countries. This approach has repeatedly proven its ineffectiveness. It does not just fail to facilitate conflict resolution, but leads to instability and chaos in international affairs.

Today, it is especially important to consolidate the international community’s efforts to ensure equal and indivisible security, as well as to resolve disputes trough the application of international law and with the central coordinating role of the UN.

As for the facts of cyber espionage that you mentioned, it not only amounts to overt hypocrisy in relationships between allies and partners, but also a direct violation of the state's sovereignty, an infringement on human rights and an invasion of privacy. We are looking forward to jointly developing an international information security system.

Russia Places Emphasis on Developing Strategic Partnership with Brazil - Putin

BRASILIA, July 15 (RIA Novosti) – Russian President Vladimir Putin underlined the extraordinary constructive atmosphere of the Russian-Brazilian talks, saying they reflected in full the spirit of mutual understanding established between the countries.

“Our relations are an example of openness and equality of rights,” Putin said during the luncheon arranged by Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff in honor of her Russian counterpart.

“I once again was convinced that our Brazilian friends are set to strengthen ties with Russia, closely cooperate with us on the world arena, including the UN, G20 and other international organizations,” Putin said, noting that “our countries have similar positions on key international issues, together they bear up the principles of the multipolar world.”

According to the Russian president, “Russia and Brazil have truly huge economic potential” and already have a track record of “a whole range of successful investment projects, including those in the energy sector, engineering manufacture, pharmaceuticals industry.”

“Of course, we are interested in moving further, deepening the industrial cooperation in the high-technology spheres, such as informatics, biotechnologies, aircraft engineering, space industry,” Putin said.

“We are ready to create most comfortable working conditions for Brazilian companies in the Russian market,” the president noted.

Commenting on the topic of humanitarian relations and sport, in particular the baton of hosting the World Cup picked up by Russia, Putin said that “Brazil as a country that organized the event, as a host, raised the bar very high, and we will have to do a lot to keep the bar on this level.”

Russian President assured that based on the Brazilian experience Russia “is ready to do everything to hold the 2018 World Cup in a way that football fans all over the world expect.”

“We are ready for the close cooperation in all spheres in the best interests of our nations and states and I am convinced that we can do a lot if we combine our efforts,” Russian leader concluded.

President Putin met his Brazilian counterpart as part of his Latin American tour. On July 15-16, the Russian leader is due to attend a meeting of the BRICS nations also including India, China and South Africa, in the Brazilian city of Fortaleza.

Russian Railways to bid for Brazil railroad construction

FORTALEZA, July 16. /ITAR-TASS/. Russian Railways in consortium with a Brazilian company plans to take part in a tender on the construction of railroads in Brazil, Vice President Alexander Misharin said late Tuesday at the BRICS summit.

The tender will be held for six sites, and Russian Railways has not yet chosen a tender for participation, Misharin said. He also said that the company may establish a separate office in Brazil to act as an engineering company.

“The railroads here will be constructed on the basis of concession. A preliminary contest will be held in summer. There is a partner here, with whom we will possibly participate,” Misharin said.

He said that under the concession agreements 70% will be paid by the national bank, while 30% will be provided by the concessioners. The government will buy all the transportation volumes through a special company. Russian Railways can become the railroad’s operator in the future.

Russia plans to boost food imports from Uruguay

MOSCOW, August 07. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia’s federal veterinary and phytosanitary watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor plans to increase the number of food importers from Uruguay licensed to supply lamb, beef, pork and dairy products to the country , spokeswoman Yulia Trofimova said after talks between Russian officials and representatives from Uruguay.

“Uruguay told us, among other things, that they were going to make the most of the opened opportunities to increase exports of their products,” Trofimova said, adding that the Russian agency also planned to sign a separate agreement with Uruguayan officials on supplies of high-quality beef.

EU to urge Latin America not to export food to Russia

Translation... EU is getting petty and will impose sanctions on countries that don't morally punish Russia for acting against the interests of the west...

Hahahahaha... the EU is hoping that the latin american countries will show solidarity with the west and support the Kiev Junta... and not take advantage of the situation and sell their products in Russia and steal the wests customer... a customer they are clearly trying to starve.
