SKD assembly of Mi-8AMT/Mi-171E helicopters in Kazakhstan

After much fanfare by some Westerners that Kazakhstan was buying the Rafale, it appears they were very much mistaken.

The Asian country is buying Sukhoi Su-30SM fighters from Russia. they are instead getting C295 and A400M transport aircraft from Airbus.

Well, if Russia had already the il-212 and the Tu-330 in production possibly Kazakhstan would not have ordered such aircrafts either

There is simply no reason to get the A400M when the Il-76MD-90 is much cheaper and more capable.
But yes Russia needs a complete transport aircraft lineup.

Not exactly, the il-76 has higher total payload capacity, but the cargo hold of the A400M is wider than that one of the il-76.
Cargo hold width: 4 m for the A400M (same as the one of the An-70 and of the proposedTu-330)
