You are missunderstanding term "fire support vehicle". Fire support vehicles are (mostly) low pressure high caliber gun equiped self propelled vehicles. Like lets say AMX10RC, FV101, BMP-1 etc, etc.

Used to provide HE/HE-FRAG support to infantry. Syria has very few of such vehicles, so thats how Gvozdikas ended up in such situations.

I did mention Afv and there is different types of fire support depending on threat and need and modern (last 10 years at least) fire support tend to now be 20-40mm guns on Afv or recce vehicles this list I provided have all been used for such role. so Russia could send Bmp-1 an example you gave they have loads in storage. I did of course mention in previous post that 2S1 had been used like this using anti armour rounds but if used in this role surely rocket screens could have been fitted for added protection but of course against TOW pointless but still you would think it would be fitted against other missile threats.

I agree that Syria needs to keep safer their 2S1 (also their T-72 and ZSU-23-4, between other powerful weapons they own).

It is not easy that Syria receives more of them as aid from Russia if they have loses. The loses of 2S1 will be very likely replaced by towed artillery pieces, unless they can pay for something better.

Actually, certain factions of the SAA received in june a fresh batch of fully refurbished BMP-2's, alongside a number of 2S9 self propelled mortars. Since then, more vehicles have probably already been delivered.
This on top of large amounts of BMP-1's already delivered previously.

Fact is, that this equipment goes where the Russians want it to go, which is either of the following :
    - Places where Russian assets need to be protected ( air bases mostly)
    - Places where reliable or Russian trained factions are engaged in fighting.

Its been noteworthy that the Russians seem to steer clear of the Eastern Damascus countryside. In my opinion this is rightfully so. This is just another meat grinder, where there is not enough to be gained as far as Russia is concerned.
For the SAA and its Iranian Allies however, this is an important patch of rubble for various reasons.

This is just an example of a faction of using whatever they have available to "outgun" their opponent.
If they had been given BMP-2's by Russia, then we would now be watching a parked BMP-2 getting blown up in exactly the same fashion.
The only way to clear these areas is by massive waves of infantry overrunning enemy strong points, following constant aerial bombardment/artillery barrages (See Aleppo 2016).
We have seen the SAA use everything from Shilka's to BMP-2's to main battle tanks to mine clearing vehicles in such urban areas, all of which performed only mediocre at best in such conditions.
The SAA does what it can to improve the performance of its armor with the resources it has available, which is very little to be honest. The lack of training and experience however continues to be painfully obvious.

Hopefully by the end of the year we can see some BMPT crews in action. I doubt it will be in East Damascus tho.

The only vehicle that comes to mind in your description is the M60 CEV with the 165mm gun. Nothing else. If its direct fire, why does the gun have to be low velocity? Why not just use tanks? Thats what they're designed to do and the SAA has no shortage of T-62s and T-55s. Using SPGs is pure retardation and higher gun calibre is no excuse. The T-72 has a more powerful HE charge than the D-30.

Probably as simple as using what is available in that locality at that time.

BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:50 P.M.) – The Islamic State (ISIL) has begun withdrawing their forces in central Syria following the Syrian Arab Army’s recent gains in eastern Homs, a Syrian military source told Al-Masdar Wednesday.

“Our planes have spotted Da’esh fleeing east Salamiyah in large numbers,” the source told Al-Masdar.

“They are fleeing because they will undoubtedly be encircled by our forces soon. We are going to link up with the army in Resafa (southern Raqqa) and cutoff their supply route to east Salamiya,” the source added.

The Syrian Army’s recent success at Al-Sukhnah has led their forces to push north towards the Al-Raqqa Governorate rather than Deir Ezzor.

While lifting the siege on Deir Ezzor is imperative, the Syrian Army needs to clear the Islamic State’s central Syria pocket in order to avoid any disruptions along the Palmyra-Deir Ezzor Highway.

The last thing ISIS can afford is to lose its transport. Maybe it is running low on fuel, get to the battle but walk home.

These look like up armoured technicals. Lot of work went into them.
