This is a few weeks old but according to this Russia is ready to sent ground troops to Syria, if the Syrian government requests, what are they waiting for?

There isn't a need to at the moment. The ground forces Russia already has is enough. If Russia sends a large contingent, then it could heat things up in the area.

I think Russia will not increase its presence except as a reaction. If the opposition receives higher help, the gouvernment of Syria will receive higher help. This would be escalation mode. Russia is promoting instead de-escalation mode.

All the Russian allies in the area are advancing, and all the Russian adversaries are losing. Russia can keep this model of fighting, and likely will do it, while there are not big changes.

They are waiting for Hell to freeze over because that is prerequisite for full ground troops deployment

If Syrians can't close the deal and Iranians are still trying to emulate their Saudi butt-brothers then bye bye Syria, welcome Republic of Latakia and all hail USMC marching through downtown Teheran

I've maintained from the start that the SOF levels in the SDF, YPG (when it suits) and the blink-and-you'll-miss-it FSA (when it suits) is really quite high. We've also seen how easy it is to meatgrind the beardies when they're backed up by men who actually know how to fight.

But an Iranian deployment would be nice to see some time within this century, I agree.

The opposition is getting higher help, they are in South Syria with NATO assholes. It would be also be nice if Iran send in more support but situation in Southern Syria is getting critical.

You have no idea about what is happening right in Syria, do you? When ever US proxies advance, they are just giving away to the other US proxy, this is what is happening now.

No wonder Tabqa feel so quickly at the end. From 3 days ago

WASHINGTON—America’s main military ally in Syria agreed to let Islamic State fighters escape from a key battle earlier this week without conferring with its U.S. partners who targeted the extremists as they tried to flee, Pentagon officials said Friday.

The unusual deal and U.S. response exposed a disconnect in the anti-Islamic State coalition on the eve of a pivotal offensive to retake Raqqa, the extremist group’s biggest Syrian stronghold. And it called into question whether the U.S. military will honor battlefield commitments made by its partners.

The deal with Islamic State helped U.S.-backed forces end a monthslong battle with Islamic State for Tabqa Dam, a strategic stronghold the extremist group has held since late-2013.

To bring the battle to an end, the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces allowed about 70 Islamic State fighters safe passage if they dismantled hidden bombs and gave up their heavy weapons, said Capt. Jeff Davis, a Pentagon spokesman.

The U.S.-backed fighters made the deal to protect civilians and ensure that Islamic State didn’t destroy the dam, which could have posed a risk to communities in the flood zone, Capt. Davis said.

But the U.S. military didn’t take part in the deal or agree to ensure safe passage for Islamic State fighters, Capt. Davis said, making them fair game. As the fighters left, the U.S. military tracked them and targeted those who could be killed without potential harm to civilians, he said.

If these intentions are true then the SAA will have a fight on their hands. It's clear Usa want to strip a large chunk of Syria away from government hands. Which is going to not just upset syrian government but turkey Iran and Iraq. Iraq didn't turn out to be Usa loyal as the USA wanted but the kurds will be exactly the kind of loyalty they are looking for in the region as well as opening up a front on Iran. Once Iran takes action on militant kurds this will be the excuse the USA has been craving for to attack and invade Iran with the Saudi and Israeli help

Kurds are easy to handle, Russia just needs to pull out from that area and give Turks a wink. Problem solves itself.

Now the question is will the SAA manage to capture border with Iraq?

US forces are in desert far behind the road that SAA is trying to capture all the way to Iraq border. And that will cut off Americans in Syrian desert, surrounded with IS and no way out.
I don't think that SAA will risk open confrontation.
But it's also strange to think that Americans would not retreat back to Jordan, as SAA advance to cut the supply line for them and to stop rebels advance toward Euphrates.

    Nevertheless, interesting days ahead.

Why don't Russia supply 100 T-72B tanks to SAA for the Jobar battle. Russia has done very little in the war for their proxy compared to what the US has done.

It is not that easy at all, my friend.

First, Russia would have to check whether they would have enough surplus tanks to send them in.

Second, it is a comprehensive logistical task to actually transport the tanks there via ships.

Third, tanks in themselves are nothing, they need mechanized infantry to operate with to be effective.

Fourth and most important, this is only a matter of political will, and it is all up to Russia to decide.

It is true that Russia is not taking this war seriously like America is. SDF will be having Raqqa in the bag within weeks and Russia is doing nothing in Syria, sent its planes back, chilling around. Russia lost to America in the Cold War because of complacency it shows in Syria right now.

He's more sane than you at least because he's not advocating for a Wahhabi and Zionist driven partition of syria and cheering for an illegal invasion of Iran. Alarmists are annoying, but they deserve a ban less than someone cheering for Wahhabis and Bibi.

You're bitching about complacency of Iran. He frustrated (legitimately) that Russia hasn't destroyed the goatfuckers in a few strokes, potentially saving tens of thousands of lives at the expense of hurt Jew and Sunni feelings.
