i have a feeling they will go as far as Al thawrah/ Dam, then possibly stay on south side of Euphrates and head all the way down to Deir Ez Zoir. But it will all depend of the Kurds/USA forces, and also where will ISIS flee to once Raqqa is fully engaged, that is if there is a route for them to escape which i am starting to think that there won't be one. Also lets see what the turks will end up doing they have already started to attack the SAA. Hopefully ISIS can be defeated before the terrorists in Idilb finally stop fighting giving the SAA a chance to redirect there forces to to Idilb, Damascus and Daraa.

It most defiantly was an international proxy war from the start with special ops doing there thing.

Deployment of conventional units to fight e.g. 2,500 paratroopers takes away the proxy part if they do enter the combat zones

It would be interesting to know if strictly speaking it was a conventional official war before as USA was providing, logistics, artillery, air support, medical etc i.e. everything except conventional armor and infantry units.

Essentially: US and Turkey are invading Syria and they weren't invited nor got UN mandate - thus illegal.

Now I know that Assad has appealed to UN to have Turkey condemned for its part of the invasion. I think US should also be added to that as well. Both are there to invade. If nothing done, then part of Syria will be stripped away from central government.

Didn't someone mention earlier that ISIS would have to swim. Seems they didn't go to the lessons, the rape and pillage classes were much more fun, especially the practicals.

ROFL, first rule of not drowning: keep both hands in the water!

But I should not be too hard on them, it's not easy to swim and rape at the same time... Razz

According to various sources, 25-30k SAA+allied forces are getting ready for Idlib offensive (Southern and possibly Western Aleppo front).

Most likely the majority of Iranian-backed forces from Al-Hadher area will push for M5 Aleppo highway towards Taftanaz airbase and besieged Fu'ah-Kafriya.

Good stuff... still very slow progress IMO. I hope the Syrian army is building more units as time goes on.

In my opinion SAA today is more organized, better equipped and experienced, the territory is consolidated, morale is back up and progress is satisfactory, especially if compared to previous years i.e. early stages of war. Just remember 2012/13/14 when losing an airbase/town or two was an everyday thing and SAA(/NDF) seemed more like a ragtag militia than a military.

Agree, also we hear very little to nothing about the training/re-indoctrination camps that there must be, probably with a lot of RuA involvement. I wonder if being part of a now winning military is seen by Syrian males as a 'good' item on a future CV as opposed to something little more than a death sentence.

Looks like more US gear for the SDF. Also it looks like those US Marines for artillery support have landed in North East Syria.

The US has sent a new batch of armored vehicles and hardware to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), according to an SDF source who asked to remain anonymous. In an interview with Sputnik Turkey, the SDF representative shared the details of this new delivery.

“Cannon batteries, armored vehicles and hardware were delivered to the south of Kobani [north of Raqqa] in 43 wagons across the territory of northern Iraq, which will be used in the ongoing operation to free Raqqa,” the source said.

According to him the weapons that were sent by the US earlier weren’t enough for the Syrian Democratic Forces.

“We are about to encircle Raqqa and we must enter the city on armored vehicles in order to be able to defend ourselves against snipers and numerous mine traps left in the city by Daesh,” the source explained.

Hence, the new batch of armored vehicles may reinforce the ongoing operation for the liberation of Raqqa.
