I agree with all you say Garry but there is a downside to your open approach. It is that other contributors, some with valuable insights, fed up with the posts, just walk away which can be a real loss to the content of the site.

At least the level of those 'unwanted' posts has dropped dramatically from a few months ago so the site is running pretty smoothly at the moment but I suspect it is a result of a fairly low level of angst out there currently. But were activity in Syria or especially Ukraine to suddenly increase then that might change.

Back on topic, just found this map of Syria from a week ago, quite ingenious.

    Precisely!!!

Ignoring that moron is simple but when you have such enormous volume of identical BS posted in quick succession it actually impedes users ability to navigate forum.

Example: shortcuts from main page become useless if someone from your ignore list posted in meantime.

This troll knows this and that is why he spams any treads that are currently most active (eg. Syria).

Erdie and colleagues are preparing to rebel against their old master.

The former commander of NATO forces in Afghanistan, retired US Army General John F. Campbell, was the mastermind behind the failed military coup in Turkey, the Yeni Safak daily has reported, citing sources close to investigation.

Turkish Foreign Minister just said "thank you" to Russia because "Russia fully and unconditionlly provided support to Turkey during the coup". The FM also said that Putin and Erdogan will meet at G20 meeting to discuss about full restoration of Russia-Turkey relationship.

Which means, now Erdogan openly kick the a** of his old master White House.

Alleged 2016 military coup attempt in Turkey - Page 12 Empty Re: Alleged 2016 military coup attempt in Turkey

    Post  Vann7 Tue Jul 26, 2016 8:40 am

So Turkey gov now says it was Russia who warned Erdogan hours before the coup.
That explain why the coup ended so badly. And to make things worse for US and Turkey
relations. Turkey blame a NATO former general who organized it. but this does not end
here..  Apparently NATO is now trying to create a kurdish alliance against IRAN
and Syria.  and iran is already having its own little war in the border with Pakistan
and the border with IRAQ.  and that eventually ERdogan will become a major pain for
Americans , the more closer are the relations of Turkey with IRAN and Russia.

So if Americans goes and create a kurdish alliance from Syria ,IRAQ and IRAN but also Turkey.
it can be supressed by an alliance of the same nations the kurdish fight. And they will be in a
major disadvantage. Kurds landlocked in turkey, landlocked in IRAN ,landlocked in IRAQ and in Syria.

But it will not be easy because Kurds are far from united. Syrian secular kurds cannot get along with IRAQUI sunni non secular kurds. So if Syria war fails , the chance of US having success with a united Kurds new revolution is less than ZERO.. Because Russia will try to settle the differences between Kurds and their hosting nations. and it have been successfully achieved that several times..

So i LOL at the war in middle east..  lol1    WHAT A FUCKING REAL MESS it is.
For NATO warmongers it will be like trying to organize a nightmare in the middle of another nightmare. Kurds are not united and never will be.  and neither Alqaeda and ISIS are united ,they compete each other and have fight against each other several times too. But the interesting thing here is that IRAN ,IRAQ and Syria and Russia are already in good relations.
So the only thing left to put the last nail in the coffin of Americans and ISRAEL greater middle east and reorganize its borders will be Turkey restoring relations with Syria and all its neighbors. This could end too NATO entry to the black sea. depending on Turkey how serious they are in restoring relations with Russia or if they will backstab again.

As crazy as the last one sounds. And much as Assad hates Erdogan and 99% of the Syrians.
and will like to see Erdogan hanged. With Russia help ,they could realize that the only way to guarantee their territorial integrity and security ,is if They all could reach the conclusion with Russia as intermediary that Americans cannot be trusted ,and that US and Europe and Israel want to split all of their countries ,the entire middle east  , and take control of all the oil resources. and turn the entire middle east into a paradise for terrorism. Even Saudi Arabia will be split , there are maps already on internet how it will be split . This is because Americans in a year or two will be forced to distance from Saudi king and Erdogan , if they do not want to be associated with Terrorism. ie.. to clean their image.

So Erdogan will be the major target of Americans to kill ,even more than Assad. Because for NATO losing turkey , it will be really terrible news and the end of their iron curtain around Russia. and the loss of their most important ally in a world war 3 fight of NATO against Russia.
And the Russia-Turkish pipeline will put an end also to American dreams to cut Russia Gas business with Europe with its sourthen nations ,which are the most friendly to Russia from Greece to Spain.

So pretty much looks like Americans dreams for one World Government are vanishing
more faster than fast. we will be moving to a more multipolar world. with Euro Asian countries
being fully independent . creating an major economic block that will rival the European Union.

Still this is far from Over,, Russia will need to influence Erdogan to stop aiding Terrorism and
abandon their war against Syria . and as bonus Turkey to leave NATO and block any warship
from NATO ,that does not live in the zone. With IRAN and Russia support Americans will have no chance to do anything against Turkey.

but if turkey leave NATO , you will see how Cyprus will be news again. you will see AMericans attacking Turkey there. and creating a revolution in cyprus for independence of Turkey. So Erdogan will try to stay in NATO as long as possible.

The main issue with Ultron and friends is that they go against forum rules and settings. I put ultron on ignore, there comes Resistence, I put resistence on Ignore, there will come another sockpuppet account. There's a reason why there are some functions in this board.

But whatever, I just don't read what is posted under that moniker, it's a tough process but once you achieve that level it's ok and good to go.

So it was all true then... you simply don't have this sort of turn around in policy toward a previous enemy without good reason. It seems Russia did indeed warn Erdogan of the coup. Like I said, Russian politics to a T, they saw an opportunity, and they seized it.

Russia had literally nothing to lose in supporting Erdogan against a NATO coup, and just about everything to gain, especially considering it seems Erdogan has now played right into their hands. Genius, pure genius.

This is 100% correct, Russia knew about the coup and they warned Erdogan, if Russia did not warn Erdogan, then it would mean a very hositle government agianst Russia in Turkey. But the thing is, it is going to get more complicated now, Russia will need to increase its presence in the Middle East(which I think they would have anyways at end of 2016(oil prices will go up and stabilize), the next hand that the Zionsts will play in the Middle East is the Kurds(we are already seeing this) but if Russia and Iran can keep the Kurds divided(which is not hard), then this hand can turned into Russia's favour.

Had the Kemalist coup succeeded, Turkey would have became Russia's ally instead of enemy. Putin made a stupid mistake yet again, just like he did in Syria in 2012 and in Ukraine in 2013, grabbing defeat from the jaws of victory, making Russia boiled in endless war is a fun game for him.

I just read one of the most hilarious things ever written on a forum: Apparently a NATO-S.T.R.O.N.K.E.R. on the Pakistan Defence forum believes that if Turkey leaves NATO then Russia could be contained in the Mediterranean by naval assaults launched by Greek territory..... lol1 lol1 lol1  Seriously?!?! A more likely scenario would be Greeks and Cypriots joining the Russia Federation to fight off NATO, but again we're talking about a NATO-S.T.R.O.N.K.E.R. here, the same jackasses claimed that Islamic extremists in Afghanistan were freedom fighters and not terrorists up until 9/11...they said Chechen extremists were freedom fighters up until the Boston Marathon bombing...they said Libyan extremists were freedom fighters up until Ambassador Stevens was killed...they said the extremists in Syria were freedom fighters until all the recent attacks in Europe...they said Iraq, Libya, Syria would be safe havens for democracy after their mass illicit arms trafficking...but how'd that turn out... But it's not far fetched. Ukrainians are far closer to Russians than Greeks are. Ukrainians hate Russians guts. Also, Serbs sell arms to Saudi Arabia which are supplied to terrorists in Syria to kill Russians. Zastava Coyote machine guns are used by terrorists in Syria.

Personally I think Erdogan had begun to smell the roses a bit earlier... the financial cost of Russian bombing ISIS oil shipments is one part of it, but loss of Russian tourist trade as well as several lucrative deals with Russia that could see them as the gas hub for Europe are also factors.

In the end even if they don't work together with the US and Russia attacking ISIS, the laters days are numbered so if Turkey supports ISIS it is going to end up on its own.

Jumping ship to rejoin Russia means a loss of face, but this coup attempt can be "blamed" for that change of heart.

Sounds like Ergodan has landed on his feet.

Irrespective of Putin and Erdogan I think this will be good for Russians and Turks and actually Syrians.

It will be bad for ISIS... but fuck them anyway.

Alleged 2016 military coup attempt in Turkey - Page 12 Empty Re: Alleged 2016 military coup attempt in Turkey

Post  JohninMK Fri Jul 29, 2016 1:38 am

As the Turkish government continues a widespread purge of its countrymen following last week’s coup attempt, precise numbers of those implicated are becoming clearer.

In the wake of the failed coup, Ankara has launched an unprecedented crackdown on those they claim were involved. In moves that many note appear to be well-scripted enough to have been planned in advance, approximately 1,684 military personnel have been dishonorably discharged, and tens of thousands of civil servants have been fired.

On Wednesday, the Turkish military provided a statement to Turkey’s NTV television and said it believes 8,651 soldiers took part in the coup, roughly 1.5% of Turkey’s forces. The statement also provided figures for military hardware used. At least 35 planes were used, 24 of which were fighter jets. Other aircraft included refueling tankers, as well as 37 helicopters. On the ground, coup-supporters commandeered 37 tanks and 246 armored vehicles.

The statement affirmed that Turkey maintains the strength to put down future threats. Writing for AntiWar.com, Jason Ditz isn’t so sure. "With Turkey continuing to sweep up more and more people in its purge, particularly from the military, many analysts are calling Turkey’s military a 'broken force,' and with so much of the military leadership swept up, it’s going to take a long time for it to recover," he writes.

The coup attempt saw at least 246 people killed and over 2,000 injured. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan blamed the attempt on religious and political figure Fethullah Gulen, currently living in exile in Pennsylvania. Ankara has requested Gulen’s extradition, but Washington has so far refused to comply.

Speaking during a panel organized by the Rossiya Segodnya News Agency on Thursday, German political scientist Alexander Rar suggested that Ankara may be forced to reconsider its geopolitical alignment if it ultimately discovers that a foreign government was behind the coup attempt. "…If it turns out – and it is no longer possible to hide anything – that the attempted pitch against Erdogan was somehow sponsored by Saudi Arabia, or by other states," he said, "if it turns out that once again, as in 1980, US intelligence is behind the coup, I think that the question of Turkey’s exit from NATO can be put on the agenda."

As the man says 'shit our guys have been purged' what message does that send?

By Damian Paletta Jul 28, 2016 12:54 pm ET

ASPEN, Colo. – A top U.S. military commander said there was a persistent concern that the failed coup in Turkey – and the backlash by the Turkish government – would impair the Pentagon’s operations in the region.

U.S. Central Command Commander Gen. Joseph Votel said Thursday that a number of the U.S. military’s closest allies in the Turkish military have been placed in jail following the coup attempt. “We’ve certainly had relationships with a lot of Turkish leaders, military leaders in particular,” Gen. Votel said at the Aspen Security Forum meeting in Colorado. “I’m concerned about what the impact is on those relationships as we continue.”

The U.S. military sees Turkey as a vital partner in its efforts to combat Islamic State in Syria and Iraq. But the coup attempt by certain members of the military inflamed internal tensions and now the Turkish government has cracked down, arresting thousands of people.

Later in the day, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper echoed Gen. Votel’s comments. The failed coup and the government’s backlash have “affected all segments of the national security apparatus in Turkey,” Mr. Clapper said in Aspen. “Many of our interlocutors have been purged or arrested. There’s no question that this is going to set back and make more difficult” the U.S.’s Middle East strategy.

Gen. Votel also suggested that the military has a tentative plan in place to retake the Iraqi city of Mosul from Islamic State. But he said they wouldn’t proceed until there are other plans in place to stabilize Mosul, provide political leadership in the city and deal with a potential humanitarian issues there. “We will go to Mosul when its time to go to Mosul,” he said. “Getting ready to go to Mosul is not just about getting a military plan in place.”

One of the Pentagon’s current strategies in combating Islamic State is to “overwhelm them” with numerous operations simultaneously in Iraq and Syria, he said.

Turkish President Erdogan Snaps at U.S. General Over Coup Remarks

General had commented on impact of purge in Turkish military on ISIS fight

A back-and-forth between the Turkish president and a top U.S. general is laying bare sensitivities between the two North Atlantic Treaty Organization allies after the failed military coup in Turkey.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Gen. Joe Votel, head of the U.S. Central Command, should “know his place” and accused the general, who oversees American military operations in the Middle East, of taking the side of the coup plotters.

Mr. Erdogan spoke at a news conference in Ankara a day after Gen. Votel raised concerns that the purges in the Turkish military since the failed coup could affect cooperation with U.S. forces in the fight against Islamic State, which Gen. Votel said so far has been excellent.

“We’ve certainly had relationships with a lot of Turkish leaders, military leaders in particular, so I’m concerned about what the impact is on those relationships,” Gen. Votel said at the Aspen Security Forum in Colorado. “Some of them are in jail.”

James Clapper, the U.S. Director of National Intelligence, raised a similar concern. “Many of our interlocutors have been purged or arrested,” he said at the same Aspen event. “There’s no question that this is going to set back and make more difficult” the U.S. strategy in the region.

Mr. Erdogan took umbrage at the remarks. Though he didn’t mention Gen. Votel by name, he said it wasn’t up to an American general to decide which members of the Turkish military should be imprisoned as a result of the failed coup.

“Who are you? You have got to know your place,” Mr. Erdogan said, according to the state-run Anadolu news agency. “Instead of thanking this government for thwarting this coup attempt and for [maintaining democracy], you are standing by the putschists.”

Mr. Erdogan wants the U.S. government to hand over Fethullah Gulen, a reclusive Turkish cleric and former ally of Mr. Erdogan, whom Turkish leaders accuse of orchestrating the failed July 15 coup. Mr. Gulen, who lives in self-imposed exile in Pennsylvania, denies any involvement and has condemned the coup.

On Friday, in response to Mr. Erdogan and other Turkish officials, Gen. Votel issued a statement denying any suggestion he was connected to the coup attempt.

“Turkey has been an extraordinary and vital partner in the region for many years,” Gen. Votel said. “We appreciate Turkey’s continuing cooperation and look forward to our future partnership in the counter-ISIL fight.”

Pentagon spokesman Peter Cook said the general had been pointing out that in some cases Turkish military officers whom the U.S. had been working with were no longer in place.

He said Gen. Votel wants cooperation with Turkey against Islamic State to continue without missing a beat.

“Professional military relations between our two countries have been excellent,” Mr. Cook said. “We want to make sure they continue that way.”

The dispute comes amid rising anti-American sentiment in Turkey, which is awash in conspiracy theories that the Pentagon and Central Intelligence Agency secretly organized the attempted coup.

Earlier this week, one pro-government newspaper accused retired Gen. John Campbell, who oversaw the U.S. military coalition in Afghanistan until March, of working with the CIA to stage the coup. Mr. Campbell said in an interview that the accusation was “absolutely ridiculous.”

Protesters demonstrated this week against the U.S. outside Turkey’s Incirlik air base, which has been used to launch many of the airstrikes in the campaign against Islamic State in Syria and Iraq.

Mr. Cook said any suggestion the U.S. had any involvement in the failed coup was “factually inaccurate” and “absurd.” He said the U.S. was continuing to fly airstrike missions against Islamic State out of Incirlik.
