    Interesting analysis from Tony Cartalucci.
I agree with all his words, it is both internal and international political. All connected.

I don't think extremist in southern did this. It is unlikely to evade security from their area all the way to bangkok.

Its look like a well planed incident.
I think the bomb intend to sabotage tourism industry which is only segment performing good in this economic hard time.
The blast happen a day after huge bike event which exhausted security officers.
And happen in asian tourist attraction which is biggest share of tourist come to Thailand.

Actually it is not the first attempt to sabotage tourism industry.
In this year there were other bombs in tourist attractions, one was hundreds meters away from yesterday blast and other was in samui island.

Currently still no official words about who responsible to this. But all bomb incidents in bangkok since 2010 are connect to political in some way.

Lastest report form police officers is : bomb assembled from abroad, triggered by timer, and found spherical metal fragments.

Let me throw a guess in here, Thailand isn't anti-chinese enough? The bombers could end up being "Chinese" or to be blamed on China?

For the first question, not only "isn't anti-chinese enough" but Thailand-China ties closer and closer since 2014 coup.
I think this guy summary quite well.

Why would the US be so angry with Thailand?

(1.) The Royal Thai Army has ousted and begun completely uprooting Thaksin Shinawatra, a US proxy groomed for over a decade and who the US has sank billions into propping up.

(2.) Thailand has begun to drift closer to China, including the pursuit of major infrastructure deals, military cooperation (including major defense contracts), trade, and tourism.

(3.) Thailand has distanced itself from America's South China Sea strategy of tension.

    https://www.facebook.com/anthony.cartalucci/posts/1616389821970419

For the second question, I think it is possible too.

Considering "too good" response from Tony Abbott (Aussie PM) "Australians should continue to go to Thailand" which is strange.
Because since the coup, Australia is one of the first country that cut-ties with Thailand. And Abbot always keep condemn on Thai government (the junta) all the past year.

This may be attempt from western (US puppet) to get into favour of Thai people again.
Or, may be Aussie just want to adjust relationship with Thailand. Who know.

    Turkish suspect arrested.

Police Arrest Prime Suspect in Bangkok Bombing Which Killed 20
    12:25 29.08.2015(updated 15:04 29.08.2015)

A man carrying a foreign passport was arrested Saturday in Nong Jok on the outskirts of Bangkok. Police said they found bomb-making material in his apartment.

Thai police on Saturday arrested Turkish national Adem Karadag who they say is the prime suspect in the deadly bomb attack in Bangkok last week that left 20 people dead and 115 wounded.

Police raided an apartment used by the man in northern Bangkok on Saturday and discovered possible bomb-making materials, national police spokesman Prawut Thavornsiri said.

The suspect "looks like the one we are looking for", he said, as quoted by Reuters.

Meanwhile, deputy national police chief General Chaktip Chaijindasaid, in a live televised broadcast, said that components of bomb-making materials had been found in the suspect's apartment.

"I am confident that he is likely involved with the bomb attack," he said via broadcaster T News.

The bomb that exploded in the center of Thailand's capital Bangkok on August 17 left 20 people killed and 125 injured. The blast occurred near the Erawan Shrine, a popular tourist attraction, and was classified by Thai authorities as a terrorist act aimed at crippling the country's tourism industry.

Myanmar Votes in Rare Openly Contested General Election

Polling stations opened early Sunday in Myanmar’s general election, which will be a rare openly contested poll in a country where ministry posts are traditionally held by the military, media report.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Historic voting opened at 6 a.m. local time (23:30GMT). About 30 million people are eligible to vote, according to BBC.

More than 90 political parties and 6,000 candidates are vying for seats in the 664-seat parliament, although 25 percent of mandates are reserved for the military, the UK outlet reports.

The front-runner is the military-backed Union Solidarity Development Party (USDP), which has been in power since the formal end of Myanmar’s junta rule in 2010. Its main rival is the National League for Democracy (NLD) led by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Aung San Suu Kyi.

Suu Kyi is barred from running for presidency by a constitutional provision that disqualifies candidates with foreign family members. Both her son and late husband are British nationals.

Myanmar, a Southeast Asian nation known formerly as Burma, has been controlled by the military since the 1962 coup. The junta formally gave up power in 2011, but most of the country’s party leaders are former military officers.

Major Myanmar Opposition Party Wins Clear Victory in General Election

The National League for Democracy (NLD) received about 80 percent of the popular vote and secured a total of 348 of the 664 seats in the two chambers of the Myanmar parliament.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) —The major opposition party in Myanmar, the National League for Democracy (NLD), has won a clear victory in the recent historic parliamentary elections, the country's election commission said Friday.

On Sunday, parliamentary elections were held in Myanmar, which was the first national vote since a nominally civilian government was introduced in 2011 after decades of military rule. Since Monday, the results of the vote have been gradually announced.

According to the Union Election Commission, the NLD, which received about 80 percent of the popular vote, has secured a total of 348 of the 664 seats in the two chambers of the Myanmar parliament, the Assembly of the Union.

In total, the parliamentary elections involved 91 parties, but the real battle was held between the NLD and the Party of Union Solidarity and Development, supported by the military.

The leader of the NLD party, Aung San Suu Kyi, cannot become president according to the laws of the country, as her close relatives are foreigners, but due to this victory in the parliamentary elections, the NLD party has been given the opportunity to elect a new president.

Starbucks Shuts All Jakarta Coffee Shops After Series of Explosions

Starbucks suspends the work of all coffee shops in Jakarta following terror attacks on Thursday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — All Starbucks coffee shops will be shut in Indonesia’s Jakarta after explosions took place close to one of the stores, the company said in a statement Thursday.

"Amidst reports of attacks targeting police posts throughout central Jakarta, initial reports are that an explosion took place close to our store in the Skyline building near one of these police posts. … This store and all other Starbucks stores in Jakarta will remain closed, out of an abundance of caution, until further notice," the company said.

Earlier in the day, at least six people were killed in a series of explosions in the Indonesian capital after several assailants entered the downtown area on motorcycles, carrying rifles and explosives. According to media reports, several militants hid away at a crowded cinema.

Three policemen and three civilians were among the victims of the attacks. At least six explosions were carried out, some by suicide bombers.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo has classified the explosions a terrorist act.

Myanmar Swears in First Civilian President in Over 50 Years

Myanmar’s first elected civilian leader in over five decades took an oath in Wednesday, media reported.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Htin Kyaw, Myanmar’s first elected civilian leader in over five decades, was sworn in Wednesday, media reported.

Earlier this month, Myanmar's parliament elected Htin Kyaw, an aide to opposition leader and Nobel Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi, the country’s new president.

Aung San Suu Kyi is prohibited from running for president and said she would rule by proxy, the BBC reported.

Constitutionally, Myanmar has a multiparty democratic system, but institutions of power are dominated by the military. One quarter of the country's parliament is represented by the military as well, while the other members are directly elected.

Indonesian police use tear gas as 1,000s of Muslims rally against Jakarta governor

Tens of thousands of hardline Muslim protesters rallying against a non-Muslim governor they accuse of blasphemy marched in Jakarta, where multiple calls for violence and provocations from foreign jihadists resulted in tear gas and scuffles with police.
President Joko Widodo had put 18,000 police and military on alert in anticipation of the violence.

The procession started as a peaceful march, but local Metro TV now reports that hardline Muslim protesters have reached the presidential palace, where they ran into police in riot gear. Some protesters threw plastic bottles into the police barricade.

Local TV One showed a fire that had been ignited at the national monument, where there are reports of thick black smoke, according to Reuters. The broadcasters said a vehicle had been overturned, but the cause was unclear.

Companies and businesses have asked their employees to work from home today, as the situation at present remains unpredictable. The Russian embassy also told its staff to stay home and to observe caution.

The latest accusations of blasphemy came after Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, known also by his nickname Ahok, referred to a Koranic quote in an argument with political opponents who were urging Muslims not to vote for him. Being a Christian, hardline Muslims believe he has no right to quote their holy book to further his ends.

Hardline Muslim groups block a street during a protest against Jakarta's incumbent governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok), an ethnic Chinese Christian running in the upcoming election, in Jakarta, Indonesia, October 14, 2016. The sign reads: Islamists threaten violence over Jakarta governor’s ‘blasphemy,’ 18K police on high alert
Purnama has also faced frequent attacks from Indonesians because of his Christian background, and his remarks prompted major Muslim organizations and Syrian jihadists alike to call for him to step down. Last month, a photograph emerged online from the Syrian-based terrorist group Jabhat Al-Nusra with a banner saying “punish Ahok, or our bullets will.”

The governor recently struck out at the opposition for citing a Koranic verse that that they said warns Muslims against dealing with Christians and Jews, accusing them of “lying,” setting off a chain reaction. His later apologies did nothing to dissuade Indonesia’s leading hardliners, the Islamic Defenders Front, from calling for mass protests and demanding that the Chinese Christian be jailed.

Although it subscribes to a moderate form of Islam, Indonesia is the world’s largest Muslim-majority nation, and suffers from frequent attacks against its Christian and Buddhist minorities.

The minister for political, legal, and security affairs, Wiranto, will meet with the protesters today. On Thursday, President Widodo and Vice President Jusuf Kalla released a statement calling for the rally to be peaceful.

In the meantime, an investigation into Purnama’s blasphemy has been launched by the police. The president, a Muslim, has vowed not to interfere in the probe, Reuters cited the Indonesian Clerical Council as saying.

Ethnically Chinese people make up just one percent of Indonesia’s population of 250 million, so politicians such as Purnama rarely make it into office. In this case, oppositional sentiment against the governor is overwhelming, despite some social media pockets of support.

The country has seen its fair share of protests, but Friday’s was the biggest in quite some time. In extreme cases, people die, as was the case at a Bali nightclub in 2002, when an Islamist bombing claimed 202 lives. The current rise of Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) has led authorities to fear further attacks. Earlier in January, IS supporters mounted an attack in Jakarta, with explosions and gunfire heard in several downtown spots, including a mall. A standoff ensued at the Skyline Building, in which four assailants and four civilians were killed, and 23 others were injured.

Communist Party of Philippines to Declare Unilateral Ceasefire by March 31

The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) will declare unilateral ceasefire not later than March 31, according to official statement.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) on Saturday said that it would declare unilateral ceasefire not later than March 31, local media reported citing a CPP statement.

The CNN Philippines broadcaster reported that the New People's Army (NPA), a CPP armed wing, promised to release several hostages in the coming days as part of "confidence-building measures to help boost peace negotiations."

The peace talks between the government and the rebels are expected to resume in April.

In February, Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte announced the end of the government ceasefire with the NPA due to the continued attacks conducted by the rebels and their growing demands.

The Philippines' government is mired in a long-lasting standoff with the leftist rebels, which has led to about 40,000 deaths. At the beginning of 2011, the conflicting sides tried to reach a ceasefire deal, but it broke down in February 2013 after Duterte's predecessor Benigno Aquino refused to free the jailed guerrillas.

Myanmar's Ruling Party Secures Parliamentary Majority After General Vote, Election Comission Says

BANGKOK (Sputnik) - Myanmar’s ruling National League for Democracy (NLD) party, led by State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, has obtained 346 out of 412 seats declared parliamentary seats so far following the November 8 general elections and thus gained a majority to form a government, the country’s Union Election Commission (UEC) said on Friday.

A party needs to win more than 322 seats out of a total of 664 to form a parliamentary majority in Myanmar. The UEC is publishing results from constituencies across Myanmar and the counting of votes is nearly over.

The opposition has claimed, without providing any evidence, that there have been some controversies during the elections, but international and local observers alike have not reported any irregularities.

The 8 November vote was the country’s second general elections since the end of military rule in 2011.
