Shoigu announced the extension of agreements on the deployment of two Russian military facilities in Belarus

MOSCOW, October 20. / TASS /. The heads of the military departments of Russia and Belarus Sergei Shoigu and Viktor Khrenin on Wednesday signed documents on the extension of the terms of the agreements on the deployment of two Russian military facilities on the territory of the republic.

“Today, with my Belarusian colleague, we signed protocols on the extension of agreements on the deployment of Russian military facilities on the territory of the Republic of Belarus - a missile attack warning system node in the city of Baranovichi and a radio station of the Navy in the city of Vileika,” Shoigu said.

The documents were signed at a joint board meeting of the Russian and Belarusian defense ministries held in Moscow.

According to Shoigu, "the results of today's meeting once again confirmed the unity of approaches of the military departments of Russia and Belarus to cooperation in the defense sphere and our focus on solving practical tasks to ensure the military security of the Union State."

Russia transfers an impressive military amount from the Far East to Belarus

Not only are we seeing the huge build up of Russian forces near Ukraine, we're probably going to see the strongest Russian military presence in Europe since the early 1990s. According to what is believed to be reliable data, 33 trains with up to 50 flatbed or carriages in them have so far arrived in Belarus with more still loading in the Far East. Up to 160 more are expected, if the 200 total figure is accurate, that indicates that Russia is planning on sending nearly 10 times the amount of military equipment deployed during the Zapad 2021 exercise. Possibly more than 10 BTGs from the Far East and an army from Siberia.

It would also indicate that we're only seeing the beginning of deployments to Belarus. Among the units moving west from the Eastern Military District, identified are the 104th/54th Command and Control Brigade, GRU/GU 14th Spetsnaz Brigades, 165th Artillery Brigade, 38th/64th Motorized Rifle Brigades, 155th Naval Infantry Brigade, and military police. Unusually S-400, 9M723 Iskander battalions and BM-27 Uragan are moving in.

The Su-35S squadron now in Belarus also came from the Eastern Military District. Looks like one of the 2 Su-35S squadrons from the 23rd Fighter Aviation Regiment based in Komsomolsk-on-Amur as well as Su-25SM aircraft.

Someone decided to make the exercise logistics more realistic.

NOTE: suspect that only a BTG and subunits are involved of the units mentioned otherwise we are looking at 50,000 or so men. The real interesting factor is the use of Eastern Military District troops to conduct a training exercise in Belarus and the redeployment of troops such a distance. Must give NATO guru's nightmares.

Russian troops deploying field command posts in Belarus in Union State’s joint drills

The troop command and control system embraces command posts of attached units located at training grounds

MOSCOW, January 31. /TASS/. Troops of Russia’s Eastern Military District are deploying mobile command posts at training grounds in Belarus as part of an inspection of the Union State’s response forces, Russia’s Defense Ministry reported on Monday.

"Units of the Eastern Military District that have been relocated to the Republic of Belarus as part of an inspection of the Union State’s forces have begun deploying mobile field command posts at practice ranges. Signal troop specialists have set up a single troop command and control system," the ministry said in a statement.

The troop command and control system embraces command posts of attached units located at training grounds, it said.

"All the elements of the command and control system are provided with secure radio communications and wire channels. Video conferencing is available at all the command posts, which enables commanders at various levels to transmit command signals in real-time. Engineering works have been carried out to set up command and control posts on terrain and camouflaging measures are underway," the statement says.

Air defense troops are providing defense against a hypothetical enemy’s air attack, the ministry said.

The troops of Russia’s Eastern Military District earlier conducted a railway and vehicular march to the areas of the joint drills in Belarus.

The inspection of the Russia-Belarus Union State’s response forces will run in two stages. At the first stage before February 9, the Belarusian and Russian militaries will practice redeploying troops and creating task forces in dangerous directions on the territory of Belarus within a short period of time. During this stage, the troops will practice protecting and defending vital state and military facilities and protecting the state border in the airspace, including as part of the Russia-Belarus joint regional air defense system.

At the second stage of the inspection that will run on February 10-20, the Union Resolve 2022 joint drills will be held, in which the troops will practice repelling external aggression, countering terrorism and protecting the interests of the Union State.

As the Russian Defense Ministry reported, during the joint drills, the troops will practice reinforcing state border sections in potential areas of the illegal penetration of armed gangs into the territory of Belarus and shutting down channels of the supply of arms, munitions and other means that can be used for destabilizing the situation in the country, eliminating outlawed armed gangs and enemy subversive and reconnaissance groups.

The troops will practice their joint operations at the Obuz-Lesnovsky, Osipovichsky, Brestsky, Gozhsky, and Domanovsky training grounds and the Baranovichi, Luninets, Lida, and Machulishchi airfields, it said.

Main theses:

Belarus has done an unprecedented job of deploying a group of Russian troops in preparation for the Allied Resolve-2022 exercise;

The CSTO peacekeeping operation in Kazakhstan was very timely and effective;

Belarus can count on Russia's firm support in its efforts to form a single defense space within the borders of the Union State;

Russia and Belarus will conduct more than 20 joint exercises in 2022.

At the very start of the video those look like Yak-130's. I have read that the Belarus's use them as light attack aircraft.

The Yak-130 was chosen over the MiG-AT because it had rather better weapon load and weapon compatibility so it had more potential as a light support aircraft, but tests using it as a sort of replacement for the Su-25 showed the Su-25 was better and more practical and possibly cheaper....

The Yak-130 is a good aircraft but is not cheap... so I can understand them wanting it to be multirole.

There is no way the Yak-130 could replace the Su-25. It has way less thrust (50 kN vs 88 kN). This means it can neither be as armored nor carry as much of a payload. For comparison's sake the Su-25 engines have about the same power as the ones in the MiG-29.

The idea was to use standoff weapons like Hermes and LMUR I suspect, but it likely worked out too expensive in terms of weapons and flight hours compared with Su-25 with its better protection being able to direct fire cheaper dumb weapons.

For Belarus they could of course use it as a fighter aircraft trainer, but with a targeting pod like Sapsan on the centreline pylon it could carry light air to air missiles like R-73s and MANPADS like Igla-S and Verba to help deal with drones or low flying cruise missiles in radar dead areas... and also in lower intensity conflicts they could deliver weapons too.

The two engines in the Su-25 are equal to one engine in a MiG-29 but then two engines from a Yak-130 are probably equal to one in an Su-25.

The Su-25 is designed for ground attack and would not be much of a dog fighter... the Yak-130 on the other had would be quite a good dogfighter despite its lack of thrust.
