Things are never black and white. We came from something and we die to end up in something. I for one believe simply because what we know really isn't absolute or makes sense, especially how the story changes so often .
Religion on the other hand is a way to control people in a certain way. To use belief in order to have a power over them. A good religion is supposed to be teaching the people what is said by the word of God but not judging others, controlling others or making demands from others. Just help and teach. Remove religion, and it's something else will replace it to have control and power.
Nothing is obvious though as you say. Only obvious thing is we come and we go. What happens afterwards, to our spirit which we could define as our consciousness, is anyone's guess.
Using it to put on a bank note is rather insulting imo.
I don't want to convert anyone... if you are happy with what you believe in then that is good... whether it is wrong or right true or false... if it helps you understand and comprehend what is going on around you then who am I to upset your world.
We came from out parents... but if you look further and further back we were either magically create by god which was supposed to be an explanation but just creates new questions... where did god come from, what is god... why create us and create a requirement for us to believe and have faith in something we have never seen or experienced... especially when he made us so weak and deceiptful... but he expects us to trust the people who lived thousands of years ago who didn't know what basic hygiene is, but we have to trust them with our immortal souls.
For a god that is everywhere and everything a few seconds saying... hey I exist and you better be good or you will go to a place called hell that looks like this and is eternal pain and suffering for you.
Instead no personal appearance but the same deal regarding eternal happiness or damnation based on whether you trust priests... you know... the men who molest boys and the organisation that shifts them around and protects them from law enforcement and prosecution... these are the people we need to trust our immortal souls with.
I am sure there are good honest genuine priests just as there are probably good genuine honest used car salesmen and good genuine honest politicians...
I would say most religions are based on ignorance... when your population does not know why the sun comes up in the morning or why one part of the year is warmer than the other part, you need to explain it... pretending you are communicating with a higher power that controls everything gives you enormous power for practically no effort at all.
Religion has enormous potential to do good, but equally can be used by unscrupulous people to do serious evil and harm... there are not many religions that have not been used for hate and to kill and to steal from others what so clearly should have been yours... like the holy lands for instance.
Putting it on a bank note for me is humorous as it admits this note is backed by an unknown unseen fictional character from a 2,000 year old collection of morality and childrens tales which some people have taken far to seriously.
