    Are you sure?

The proportions and roundness of the nose makes it look more like a Kilo class...

Here are some pointers on how to distinguish between a Pr.885 Yasen and a Pr.636 Varshavyanka (Kilo):

The Yasen submarine has a much larger displacement than the Kilo, but nevertheless there are other key features that makes it easy to distinguish between the two.
The sail is a good starting point. The Kilo has straight looking sail with steep vertical and straight horizontal lines, whilst the Yasen's sail has more rounded and curved features throughout the design.
Another easy to notice feature is the prominent "ridge back" hull design of the Kilo. This is not a feature of the larger Yasen design.
The Yasen also follows the more modern trends by having it's torpedo tubes set midship in the hull, whilst the Kilo has it's torpedo tubes right at the front.
Lastly, part of the Yasen's rudder is set above the waterline and quite visible when on the surface. The Kilo on the other hand has it's rudder below the waterline facing downward to the bottom of the ocean and not visible when running on the surface.

Picture below is the Yasen with it's torpedo tubes quite visible midway down the submarine's hull.

Here is the Kilo with it's very distinct "ridge back" hull and the torpedo tubes right at the front.

    You pictures don't help.

The two images you show are taken from different angles and both look like Albacore shapes to me...

The image in the next post show the sail much closer to the nose than in either of the two images in the previous post Both sails are vertical and symmetrical in your post number 454, while the image in 455 shows the extreme angle of the rear of the sail in the actual Yasen sub.

Any ridge back is obscured by one of the subs in the images being covered in snow.

    Not convincing at all.

Ok cool no problem. I just thought I could help you to make it easier for you to distinguish the differences between the two designs.
I would however like to point out once again that the Kilo submarines, does not have torpedo tubes set midship - as is clearly indicated in the disputed picture. This is a very distinct feature of the Yasen...

Btw - the Yasen on the surface is the Kazan which has a much shorter hull than the Severodvinsk - which is the one pictured in the dry dock. Hence the sail on the Kazan (885M) is set further forward compared to the Severodvinsk.

But then again you did get things confused between the Ye-8 and the Mig-8 Neutral

Ok I am pretty sure you are kidding here now.

Do you understand how perspective works and without something for scale that is the same in both images determining size is actually quite difficult.

The pictures in question shows a supposed Yasen from ground level with the sub in question sitting on the ground... making any sub look bigger in comparison to viewing a sub sitting in the water where your view is the equivalent to being elevated several metres up in the air and not looking from below.

The horizontal tail surface in both images looks the same.

The sail in the supposed image of the Yasen has a sail with a vertical shape, but seen from a different angle to the Kilo in the other image.

The image of the Yasen on the surface is the same angle as the image of the kilo... water level and you can see the nose of the Yasen in that image tapers downwards in front of the sail but the sub in the first image does not appear to have the same angular nose and the sail appears further back than in the image of the Yasen.
