The 48t figure has been tossed around for a while. Weight will vary among the MBT, BMP, BTR, etc vehicles.

I doubt the MBT variant will fall in under 50t.

The rumored weight for the initial MBT version is ~53 tons, with a ~1500 hp engine.

Well that 1500 hp engine suggest that the weight is above 48t.

Early estimates suggested a 50-52 ton vehicle with a 1,800hp engine with growth potential to 2,400hp once its design matures and new materials get cheaper.

What might be interesting is if they fit the vehicle with a laser system... not as far fetched as it might initially seem.

they already have a laser based system built in to a pair of binoculars that detects lenses (ie sights or optics) and can direct a laser beam to disrupt or damage the optics.

Would make it usefull against camoflauged vehicles, snipers or ATGM teams aswell.

Increased weight because of lengthen hull or because of the thicker armour ? (or both ?)

Bigger engine, capsuled compartment (more armor) longer hull and more fancy stuff like APS but the Relikt should weight less than K5.

what about a engine piston like this? the piston to have a cavity on top in wich the fuel burns. this would give less loss of power?

Agreed and I hope its inaccurate, as the lack of internal turret space for elevation of the main gun breech block will result in horrendous negative elevation and prevent effective hull-down positioning. I hardly think that this new generation of MBT will retain this traditional design weakness of Soviet armour.

I was just about to write the same thing, you beat me to it!
I think we will se a very different design that that of T-62,T-72.

i think it was told somewhere ARMATA MBT will use a next generation steel.. that will be stronger
by 5% to 10% more vs previous steel in same weight. So if that is true.. then the real weight of
armata should be compared by adding about 7% more weight ,to really see how it compares with previous
T-90 AM tank.   my guess it is .. the real comparable could be up to 5 more tons of weight ,of the official
number if we are to compare it with previous Russian tanks. because of the new stronger steel used.

    Wow....

It's definitely bigger, however it's a bit deceptive. The tarp on the T-95's make's the turret look like a giant dome like entity, however the tarp is held in place more tightly than loose, another photo (posted a few pages back) show's the tarp on the turret with more slack and loose:
