Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) bases (Locations, units & equipment) Empty Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) bases (Locations, units & equipment)

Post  Benya Wed Aug 17, 2016 1:18 pm

I opened this topic for everyone who is interested in the Russian Aerospace Forces' ((VKS RF) Air, Air Defense and Space Forces combined) current deployments and equipment.

In this topic I will list any Russian airbases, SAM/radar sites, early warning radars both in Russian territory and in foerign countries with their exact locations and their equipment.

This topic will be also great for the discussion of the VKS' strategic issues, since if we know what exact type of aircraft is deployed at exactly where, we can argue about that would it be logical or not (for example, way back in 2014-2015, brand new Su-35S fighters were deployed to the Russian Far East. What adversaries they would have to face and so on), same with for example the S-400 SAM long-range system (or any other long-range SAM and radar system).

So, anyone who is interested in this topic, feel free to post your thoughts about it.

You might find that responses to this topic might be fewer than you might expect due to OPSEC concerns.

I know that my topics are noth that popular, and I do not strive for popularity for my topics.

BTW what do you mean by OPSEC concerns? These aren't state secrets nor payware analisys pages. Or you mean that some state intelligence agency or whatever is spying on my topics?

Your last sentence is exactly what happens. Virtually everything on the Internet is being monitored by somebody.

I think that you can bet your life savings on this site being regularly visited by dozens of military intelligence cells and attaches. It carries interesting low level information that is hard to get without local eyes.

Well, honestly this was a kinda dumb statement made by me Neutral . Of course, I really appreciate that my topics are being frequently watched by members of the forum, even if posts are not that common. I plan to make similar threads in the Russian Navy and VDV sub-forums. And of course, 3000 or maybe 5000 views to each of my topics would be great milestones.

Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) bases (Locations, units & equipment) Empty Re: Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) bases (Locations, units & equipment)

Post  Benya Mon Nov 07, 2016 8:15 pm

Yesterday I have also edited all air defense regiment's TO&E that are using Buk-M1/S-300V AD missile complexes, for all four military district

    Buk-M1 units:

    -Equipment: 2 division/battalion sets of 9K37-M1 "Buk-M1" medium-range SAM systems (12 9A310M1 launchers (TELs) and 6 9A39 transloader-launchers (TELLs), 1 9S18M1 "Kupol-M1" (NATO code: "Snow Drift") target aquisition and engagemet/fire control radar, 1 9S470M1 regiment/brigade level command post)

    S-300V units:

-Equipment: 2 division/battalion sets of S-300V4 long-range SAM/ABM systems (8 9A82M and 16 9A83 launchers with radars (TELARs), 4 9A84 and 8 9A85 transloader-launchers (TELLs), 4 9S32 (NATO code: "Grill Pan") battery level engagement/fire control radars, 1 9S15M "Obzor-3" (NATO code: "Bill Board") early warning/target aquisition radar, 1 9S19M "Imbir" (NATO code: "High Screen") sector surveillance radar, 1 9S457 regiment level command post)

I have also corrected the number of TELs in all S-300/S-400 regiments to their real life numbers, plus I have corrected the amounts of 64N6E (for S-300) / 91N6E (for S-400) "Big Bird" target aquisition radars. Previously I thought that every battalion has one, but then I found out that there is only one of them in every regiment.

Read an article today that confirms the Su-25SM's are stationed at Kant but deploy to Gissar as needed. At Gissar is stationed a mixed helicopter squadron of Mil-24P's and Mil-8MTV's to support the 201st Motor Rifle brigade.

Post  Benya Fri Dec 09, 2016 10:29 pm

Today I have done with the following editings to the 6th VKS Army's (Western MD) unit list:

1.) - Added the 1490th Guards Air Defense Missile Regiment - which was missing - and its equipment list to the 6th VKS Army:

-(1490 Gv ZRP) 1490th Guards "Kievsko-Lodzinskiy" Air Defense Missile Regiment (Ulyanovka, Leningrad region)

Equipment: 3 division (battalion) sets of S-300PM long-range SAM systems (24 launchers, 1 64N6E "Big Bird" target aquisition radar, 3 76N6E "Clam Shell" low altitude early warning radar, 3 30N6E "Flap Lid" engagement/fire control radar)

2.) - I have also found out that the 1489th one had been rearmed to S-400

-(1489 Gv ZRP) 1489th Guards "Rechitsko-Brandenburgskiy" Air Defense Missile Regiment (Vaganovo, Leningrad region)

    Equipment: 2 division (battalion) sets of S-400 long-range SAM systems (16 launchers, 1 91N6E "Big Bird" target aquisition radar, 2 92N6E "Grave Stone" engagement/fire control radars, 2 55K6E command posts), 6 96K6 Pantsir-S1 short-range SAM/SPAAG systems

3.) - The 549th Army Aviation Base is being reorganized into an Army Aviation Regiment, but its units will stay at their current garrisons. Its numbering is currently unknown.

4.) Added the missing titles to units with Guards rank.

I will edit the ORBAT and TO&E lists of the other VKS armies on this weekend.

Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) bases (Locations, units & equipment) Empty UKRAINKA (Far East District) Air Force Base -Heavy Bomber Regiments

    Post  Fer_Cabo Thu Jan 19, 2017 11:33 am

    Hi folks,

I'm looking for info. about the number and types of aircrafts currently based in UKRAINKA.

What i've been able to find in the internet talks about 2 squadrons of TU-95MS (12 x 2 = 24 Bear aircrafts). Can this be considered accurate?

Any other support aircraft based there or usually deployd to UKRAINKA? All tanker aircraft (Il-78s) seem to be allocated to the 219th Special Purpose Detachment based in ENGELS2, but guess they're often deployed elsewhere whenever needed.

    Thanks!

Probably officially two Bomber Aviation Regiments (182nd & 79th). There is around 30 (give or take a couple) Tu-95MS aircraft in total. I believe there would be 12 assigned per regiment with the rest as spares. May actually be 2 squadrons with 6 aircraft each per regiment. There seem to always be some Il-78's on site along with other transport and support aircraft plus a couple of helo's. A lot of maybe's as Air Force reorganization (names & numbers) take place. Does that help?

Thank you franco, yes, everything helps Laughing

About the Il-78s, all existing tanker assets seem to be concentrated in the 219th Special Purpose Detachment based at ENGELS-2 (some 20 aircraft), from which they probably deploy to other bases depending on the needs as they arise.

Anyhow, it's a very low number of tanker aircraft available, even when the Heavy Bomber / Long-Range aviation has been reduced and reshaped. Guess they're working on that.

I do not know if, as you say, a couple of tanker Il-78s are permanently allocated to UKRAINKA. Can we take that as a fact ?¿ (with a reasonable and justified basis, i mean)
