    The Il-76 based KJ-2000 was too exencive to operate even for China, so they developed the KJ-200/500/700 to be fielded in large numbers.
    The A-50U/100s will also be overkill IMO- the more efficient Il-96-400Ms (now in low rate production that could be increased) based AWACS could burn less (& deliver more fuel than Il-478s, btw)+free up Il-476s production for what they were primaraly designed for: move & drop cargo, armor with its paratroopers.
    Having extra 1-2 dozen more Il-476s will nicely make up for latest Il-76/An-12/72 shortages & losses. The Il-114s could also be used as AEW&C platform like the SAAB 2000 to replace An-12 based EW & Il-20/22 planes.

    When they get PD-35 engines into serial production I think an Il-96 based AWACS would make good sense, and also an inflight refuelling tanker version to support strategic aviation as it can fly higher and faster and further to fuel strategic aircraft with more fuel closer to their targets. The Il-78s can be used for tactical aircraft refuelling instead.

    Would also agree that the Il-114 and its enlarged version Il-140 would be useful for a range of other roles, but I would think the Tu-214 is also going to be replacing some older aircraft too...

    As Superjet and MS-21 production ramps up their might be excess supply available and the Russian military are not so concerned about reduced size crews and fuel efficiency like airlines are.

    The only thing that stopped the SSJ from being used by the military were the foreign parts.
    That problem has been solved.

    It's also small. Tu-214 is the best option and already used by the military. If they want smaller il-114.

    SSJ bring nothing interesting that those 2 don't have.
