1) No countries in this world has ever reach the stage of Communism. Even the USSR, unless during the idiocy of Khruschyov, never said that it finished the stage of socialism or communism.
Being a "socialist country" only means that the proletariat party managed to take the control of the government and use the government power to change the society, and during that process it can face setbacks or even failure. Lenin alredy said it quite clearly in an essay written in 1921.
2) Even bourgeioise, democratic or capitalist revolutions sucked many times during the heyday of capitalism, too. Many bourgeioise democratic revolution ended up in failure, or revert to monarchy, or the bourgeioise leadership backtracked on their original promises.
3) The issue here come to a very realistic question: who are benefited from the true revolutionary change of the society ? The rich, the king, the aristocrat, the employers will always say that revolutions are useless, unrealistic, the workers are too stupid to lead the society. On the other hand, the workers and the marginalized only desire one thing: how to escape the chronic nightmare that is torturing them today.
Of course there are nuances, the marginalized people can be hesitant to fight back due to the overwhelming power from the ruling class - that led to the feel of hopelessness and the choice to let "fate" decide it.
