Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived in Riyadh on Monday on a state visit to Saudi Arabia, where he will hold talks with King of Saudi Arabia Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. Kremlin Aide Yuri Ushakov informed reporters that they plan to discuss coordination of actions to stabilize oil prices, as well as the situation in Syria, the Persian Gulf region and Palestine-Israel regulation.

"They will discuss further coordination of joint actions with the aim to stabilize the world hydrocarbon market," Ushakov said. He reminded that earlier, "with an active role of Russia and Saudi Arabia, it was possible to approve the prolongation of the OPEC+ agreement to reduce volume of oil production."

The Kremlin aide added that Russian and Saudi leaders would discuss expanding multilateral cooperation in various areas, namely, in the spheres of energy, agriculture, industry, as well as in the military-technical and cultural-humanitarian spheres.

Ushakov noted that the leaders will "exchange opinions on the current international issues, focusing on the situation in the Middle East and North Africa." "They will discuss the situation in Syria, in the Persian Gulf, in Yemen, and Palestine-Israel regulation," he added.

Putin will also take part in the first session of the Russian-Saudi Economic Council on October 14, Ushakov informed earlier. "The program of the visit includes participation of the Russian president in the first session of this economic council, which will take place right after the talks with the king," the Kremlin aide said, adding that Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammad bin Salman Al Saud plans to take part in the session as well. The council will include head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund Kirill Dmitriyev and Saudi Minister of National Guard Abdullah Bin Bandar. The council also involves business representatives from both countries, "about 20 representatives from each side," the Kremlin official added.

Would update what I said to say that in light of a certain drone and cruise missile attack recently that Saudi Arabia might be interested in both TOR and Pantsir air defence systems.

Perhaps better low level radar systems too.

I don't think they will buy S-400 or anything major... the Americans simply wont stand for it... the cashogi files will be reopened and a new king will be dug up...

Would be better for Saudis to cut such stupid link with US ,just to be a normal relations like between any two countries .

The Russian government on Tuesday called on its foreign and defense ministries to conduct negotiations with Saudi Arabia to conclude a new military cooperation agreement between the two countries.

According to Russia Today (RT), the agreement would include an: "Expansion of views and data on matters of mutual interest in the military field of anti-terrorism, fight against piracy, troop training, military education, culture and sports, military medicine, military history and relief operations at sea."

The agreement is slated to be implemented through several mutual visits by official delegations and experts, and holding joint training and drills.

Iran would take a big part of their oil market. US/EU making peace with Iran means they would start seeing Saudi dictatorship the same way they see Iran today.

Around 80% of Iran's oil is going to around 7 countries .If they shared big amounts in the US market ,those countries will share it's needs with Saudis.Everyone will sell it's oil .

Saudi have no reason to push for better relations between Iran and US. Best way to do this is buy from US lot of weapons.

Actually they will win .See now how much they have to pay for the US protection over the gulf and at the end they are being sanctioned and threatened once after once from the same "ally" .Saudi land is being targeted and actually the US is ok with that ,the more Saudis are afraid the more they will pay for their security .

The irony is that Russian technology with fuel cells that can convert petroleum products into hydrogen and carbon products would be a godsend for the entire energy industry... Petrol and Diesel and Kerosene and other petroleum products are essentially hydrogen atoms and carbon atoms locked together... the problem with so called fossil fuels is that releasing the hydrogen also releases carbon in the form of carbon monoxide an carbon dioxide... both of which are not good for the atmosphere.

Having energy systems that use hydrogen like fuel cells, or just combustion engines like jet engines and piston motors that burn pure hydrogen the byproduct would be water vapour.... hydrogen burning creates H2O and lots of heat which leads to water vapour or steam being released...

But carrying around hydrogen atoms in the form of gas takes up an enormous amount of space... having it under enormous pressure makes it dangerous and cooling it down to form a liquid or slush makes it terribly dangerous and expensive.

In the form of fossil fuels it is already in a dense liquid form and more importantly oil companies... which is what energy companies used to be called, already have the networks and infrastructure to transport and contain and create and deliver these fuels in their various forms.... all they really need is a useful way of collecting up all that solid carbon that is created... it can be used for all sorts of useful things including carbon nanotubes and carbon fibre and other useful things.

But the Saudi's should still have it's groups waging terror in the Middle East? When ISIS/ISIL started attacking Iraq back in 2014, The ISIS/ISIL vermin showed very little interest in capturing holy sites like Mecca or Saudi's vast hydrocarbon resources, despite sharing a massive land border with Iraq...which was the massive dead give who financed them.

I would agree they would be much better off working together than against each other.... like India and Pakistan and India and China, but the US benefits from these conflicts, as they do with conflicts in the middle east between Iran and Saudi Arabia... the latter in particular because when they are fighting each other and taking every step to weaken each other they stop being a threat to Israel and US forces in the region taking advantage of the chaos.

Even their allies are not supporting them each time when needed .UAE pulled it's forces from Yemen .Egypt refused to participate in Syria and Yemen ,Aramco cut the oil to Egypt for the same thing . Even Pakistan now took a side away from Saudis .

They control nothing in Syria or Afghanistan and they are messed up in Yemen .

Actually Iran has much influence in Lebanon ,Syria ,Bahrain and Yemen and yes they are using their groups for only their interests .

They are very unsuccessful because their moron killers are morons first and also killers... when you capture a town you don't gain the support of the people when you round up all the young women and demand they marry your fighters and those that refuse are burned to death.

Saudi Arabia has played a game... for decades they had unconditional US support because they signed up for 400 billion dollars worth of defence contracts... but if you actually go through them most of them went no where... much like Saudi promises of spending billions of Russian weapons too.

They didn't end up actually buying very much at all really...

Ironically there are a few areas like nuclear power and hydrogen energy technology Russia is exploring that Saudi Arabia would be mad not to invest in, but I doubt they will follow through... there are plenty of western investors investing in Russia because it will make good money and result in technology that can be used to make a lot more money, but I honestly don't think the SA realise this fully.
