Saudi Arabia is planning to build a canal in Yemen to bypass the Strait of Hormuz, according to a report in Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency on Wednesday.

According to Sa’ad Ibn Omar, head of the Arab Studies Center in Riyadh, “Studies are underway on the construction of a waterway which starts from a part of Saudi Arabia’s water border in the Khour al-Adid area between the UAE and Qatar and stretches 950 km to the Arabian Sea.”

that Saudi Arabia was planning to construct a water canal in Yemen, named Salman, to bypass the Strait of Hormuz.

Omar said the purpose of the waterway, to be named the Salman Canal (after the king), is to enable the UAE and Kuwait to bypass the Iran-controlled Strait of Hormuz when exporting their oil to other countries.

Omar added that the proposed canal, which is expected to cost $80 billion, would cut in half the current travel time it takes for ships to sail through the Strait of Hormuz.

Now we know why they're attacking Yemen, but this canal is basically the Saudi's assuming victory over the Houthis as a sure thing, far from it in reality.

Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr and 46 others were executed on Saturday. Saudi Arabia found them guilty of "terrorism".

Mr Jubeir said that all Iranian diplomats must leave Saudi Arabia within 48 hours.

Saudi Arabia is seriously f-ed and they don't know what to do. Seems like they try to drag United States to commitment in order to cover their own mistakes.
I think their situation is so critical that, if they keep losing in all fronts, it may escalate even to a regime change.
Unlike others, I don't think Turkey is in serious trouble, but SA definitely is.

Yemen's Houthi Ansarullah fighters and their allies in the army have reportedly fired a long-range ballistic missile at the Saudi capital Riyadh, a few hours ahead of US President Donald Trump's visit to the Arab kingdom.
According to a report by Yemen's Arabic-language al-Masirah television network, the Yemeni forces, backed by allied fighters from Popular Committees, launched a Borkan-2 (Volcano-2) ballistic missile, a domestically modified rocket, aimed at the Saudi capital on Friday evening. The report also carried a statement by the Yemeni army, saying the missile strike conveyed "a clear and important message that we are all ready to respond to the aggression." The report, however, gave no further detail, including the exact impact location, the possible casualty toll and the extent of potential damage inflicted. Meanwhile, the Saudi military announced that it had intercepted and destroyed a projectile some 200 kilometers west of Riyadh, without giving more details.
