As far as I remember, Soviet offensives in Baltic States during Great Patriotic War were bloody and difficult. I thought Baltic terrain is easy to defend and hard to attack.
GPW was fought against a completely different enemy. Baltic occupation was done within a day or two.
Ironically the Baltic states are worse off today than during the Soviet times when it comes to defense.
