India supplied Myanmar Shyena anti-submarine torpedoes
As Indian media reported, Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), an Indian state defense force, supplied the Myanmar Navy with the first batch of 324-mm Advanced Light Torpedo (TAL) Shyena anti-submarine torpedoes to arm surface ships. This is the first export delivery of Indian-made torpedoes.
The first batch of Indian 324-mm anti-submarine torpedoes Advanced Light Torpedo (TAL) Shyena, manufactured for the Myanmar Navy at the enterprise of the Indian State Defense Association Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) in Vishakhapatnam (c) BDL
Myanmar entered into a $ 37.9 million contract with BDL to acquire an unnamed amount of Shyena torpedoes in March 2017.
The Advanced Light Torpedo (TAL) Shyena 324-mm anti-submarine torpedo is the first self-produced torpedo in India. The development of this torpedo in the interests of the Indian Navy for a long time was carried out by the Naval Science and Technology Laboratory of the Indian Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) based on the design of the famous Italian 324-mm anti-flood torpedoes Whitehead (Leonardo) A244S. Shyena torpedo trials were launched in 1998, but only in March 2012 the first batch of serial torpedoes was transferred to the Indian Navy, where it is used both from surface ships and from helicopters. Shyena mass production is carried out by BDL at the enterprise in Visakhapatnam with subcontracting participation of enterprises of the Indian group Larsen & Toubro.
