Re: Serbian Armed Forces
Of course it is political, but at least the Mistral missile is a good missile... it is not like they are buying a crap missile that they wont be able to use... they are actually getting something useful for their money.

Re: Serbian Armed Forces
Serbian modernization of the M-80A infantry fighting vehicle
On December 30, 2019, Serbian Minister of Defense Alexander Vulin attended the Nikinci Center for Testing Weapons and Military Equipment at the presentation of a prototype of the Yugoslav M-80A infantry fighting vehicle upgraded in Serbia, including demonstration firing. The modernization was carried out by the Military Technical Institute in Belgrade in accordance with the assignment of the Ministry of Defense of Serbia issued in 2017.
A prototype of the Yugoslav infantry fighting vehicle M-80A modernized in Serbia. Nikinci, 12/30/2019 (c) Ministry of Defense of Serbia
Full details of the BMP M-80A modernization project are not given, but it is reported that the car received enhanced protection, a more powerful engine and a new uninhabited turret with weapons in the form of a 30-mm automatic gun (apparently, type M-86), two 7.62 -mm machine guns (one coaxial with a gun and one in a remotely controlled installation on the roof) and two launchers of modernized ATGMs of the Serbian production "Malyutka-2T5" (with semi-automatic radio command guidance) and "Malyutka-2F / 2T" (with semi-automatic wired guidance) . The possibility of installing a 30-mm automatic grenade launcher on the tower is also claimed. The tower is equipped with a modern fire monitoring and control system, including a thermal imaging sight.
.
The Yugoslav infantry fighting vehicle M-80A was mass-produced at the FAMOS enterprise in Khrasnitsa (Bosnia and Herzegovina) from 1981 to 1991, about 900 units were manufactured in total. In 2016, the Serbian army had 323 M-80A infantry fighting vehicles, of which, according to the announced plans, it was planned to upgrade 220 units starting in 2020.
BMP-80A modernization projects have been developed in Serbia more than once since the 1980s, revolving mainly around the installation of a new tower with a 30-mm M-86 gun instead of the old single-seat turret with the M-55 cannon (projects M-80A1 and M- 80 / M98A Vidra, as well as the вариантugoimport-SDPR, presented in 2017 version M-80AB1), but not one went further than the prototypes. As far as one can judge, the current version of modernization repeats the M-80AB1 in the hull, but is equipped with a completely new uninhabited tower with a modern fire control system.

It is not really about the hardware on either side but how it was used...
Having said that even shooting down ten F-117s still would not have effected the outcome...

Re: Serbian Armed Forces
So it is their Chapparal... a ground launched sidewinder based on the upgraded version of a Soviet copy of the weapon...
I suppose it is a useful way of using existing stocks.... they likely have quite a few missiles...
Probably wouldn't be very good for the lighter drones that likely wont have enough of an IR signature for a lock, but cruise missiles and of course helicopters and low flying aircraft would be good targets for such a system.
They could adapt it to fire R-60MKs and R-73s too over time...

Re: Serbian Armed Forces
Large-scale production of the Serbian armored vehicle BOB M16 Milos has begun
The original was taken from a colleague dambiev in the serial production of the Serbian armored vehicle BOV M16 Miloš
On June 13, 2020, in the presence of the Minister of Defense of Serbia, Alexander Vulin, the opening ceremony of the mechanical metalworking workshop took place at the new military-industrial cluster under construction at the Borbeni Folding System (BSS) enterprise of the Kugoimport-SDPR association in Pyalkovo (Kurshumliya), where large-scale production is planned new armored vehicles BOV M16 Miloš.
As bmpd colleagues previously reported, the BOV M16 Miloš has a full combat weight, depending on the configuration, from 12 to 14 tons. The length of the vehicle is 5.48 m, the width is 2.48 m, and the height is 2.3 m. The capacity is eight people, of which four are located in the four-door cockpit, and four in the landing compartment with the aft ramp. Bearing armored hull with the introduction of mine protection, including a V-shaped bottom.
The machine has a 300 hp Cummins ISB 300 diesel engine, combined with an Allison 3500SP six-speed automatic transmission. Speed on the highway up to 110 km / h, range up to 500 km. The first BOV M16 Miloš prototype presented at IDEX-2017 is equipped with the developed “Kugoimport - SDPR” remotely controlled M15 combat module with a 12.7-mm machine gun.

14 tons is quite meaty and damn good for a vehicle in this category and that winch in the front is doing wonders for appearance

M-20 MRAP 6x6
Unlike other stuff lately this is budget version troop carrier, idea is to buy them in bulk to finally stop moving soldiers in soft skinned vehicles
French approach to layout and it's based on dirt cheap local truck FAP-2026 which pretty much translates to ''bottomless pit of spare parts''

Re: Serbian Armed Forces
M 20 is really good news, hope we will make them in large numbers, more than thousand units. We need a lot of them...and larger army, for sure. I like the way they want to modernize our M-84's...if there is a possibility to return some of those 150 sitting in Kuwait...well, I can dream a bit.
I've heard there will be a re-organisation in our Army, maybe they finally decided to change this British brigade organisation, which is more a problem, than solution for our Army.

Considering it's based on FAP truck it shouldn't be a problem at all, if there is anything that we can reliably make in insane numbers it's that thing
littlerabbit wrote:We need a lot of them
That we definitely do
I always get disgusted whenever I read about wars in the 90s and learn the number of men we lost in idiotic ambushes on tarp covered trucks and other soft-skinned junk, we lost more men to that to than enemy artillery, it's criminal stupidity
This is why I hate when people shit talk MRAPs, those are best military inventions since AK-47
littlerabbit wrote:...and larger army, for sure.
As long as we keep buying fresh gear enlarging the Army will not be difficult if need arises
We finally have full setup for military vehicles: upgrades for tanks and IFVs, Lazar and Milos as upper tier MRAPs, M-20 for basic transportation and Zastava trucks for general logistics
All that is left is to get a lot of it
littlerabbit wrote:I like the way they want to modernize our M-84's...if there is a possibility to return some of those 150 sitting in Kuwait...well, I can dream a bit.
Kuwait is still using them and are enjoying them quite a lot
But if they ever decide to get something "better" and replace them we should definitely ask if we can buy them back
Then again I wouldn't be surprised if they also ask to buy some of those fresh upgrades should we finally get them in production

Serbia got 30 T-72MS's. Is this true or another rubbish invented by BMPD?
The Russian Ministry of Defense began supplying the Serbian military with modernized tanks T-72 MS "White Eagle". As reported by the Sputnik Srbia news agency, on October 28, the first two tanks were delivered to Serbia.
The Serbian military department received the first two T-72MS tanks from 30 modernized White Eagle tanks, donated by Russia to Serbia from the availability under the agreement on military-technical cooperation.
The tanks were delivered on October 28 this year by Il-76TD transport aircraft. The unloading of the aircraft was carried out at the airfield in Batainitsa near Belgrade.
According to the bmpd blog, the modernization of the T-72B1 tanks into the T-72MS version was carried out at the 61st Armored Repair Plant JSC (Strelna, St. Petersburg).
T-72MS "White Eagle" is equipped with a round-the-clock gunner's sight PN-72 "Sosna-U", a commander's round-the-clock panoramic sight PKP-72 "Falcon Eye" using a third-generation thermal imaging camera, automatic target tracking, chassis information control system, navigation system , a new cannon stabilizer, and a remote-controlled anti-aircraft machine gun. In this case, the dynamic protection "Contact-1" is not replaced.
When the remaining 28 tanks will be delivered, it has not yet been reported.

Modernized Russian-made T-72MS tanks demonstrated in Serbia
On November 28, 2020, in Nis, in the "Mija Stanimirović" barracks, a demonstration of the first batch of 11 modernized T-72MS "White Eagle" tanks was held (a total of 30 units will be transferred), which were donated by Russia as part of an agreement on military-technical cooperation, which was achieved between the presidents of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic and the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin.
The show was attended by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Army Milan Moisilovic, Serbian Defense Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic and Russian Ambassador to Serbia Aleksandr Botan-Kharchenko.
The modernized T-72MS "White Eagle" tanks are equipped with a round-the-clock gunner's sight PN-72 ("Sosna-U" manufactured by the Belarusian OJSC Peleng), a commander's round-the-clock panoramic sight PKP-72 ("Falcon Eye" also produced by OJSC "Peleng", with using a third-generation thermal imaging camera - apparently Thales Catherine XP), an automatic target tracking system BARV.468939.001, a chassis information and control system, a navigation system, a new cannon stabilizer, and a remote-controlled anti-aircraft machine gun mount. At the same time, the old ERA of the Contact-1 series is retained.
