TOT License production could fix that.

I doubt licence production would be available as an option but in the future Venezuela could opt for more S-300VMs and S-350 coupled with ECM. Few more batches of latest Russian

fighters and they are good to go. Several subs armed with Clubs would come in handy too Very Happy

Why wouldn't it? Venezuela has the 2nd largest proven crude oil reserves in the world (hence the reason why "democracy" may come eventually there Wink) and that could be used as collateral, the Venezuelan govt. staying in power is of strategic importance for Russia hence the reason why TOT License production sounds much better (which is an option resistant to arms embargo's).

Because of little technical knowledge meaning toooo much time to educate lots of people and to build many factories. Licence production of S-300VM is not as same as AK-103 Venezuela

acquired. In quantities they want to buy it makes sense to just buy off the shelf and ask for offset. Their economy despite No.1 oil reserves is still to fragile due to economy war and

black ops USA regime has unleashed against them since Chavez came to power. They need money to carry on social reforms and to be able to fend of anything US regime might think of.

...May'be not the entire system, license production to produce the missiles and on the Russian side they could help develop crude stationary or mobile launchers (that the Venezuelans could produce easily, and act as stop-gaps until full-fledged systems arrive) with no radars but the command posts on hand in Venezuela could net-centric with the crude launchers. The crude launchers would be rather useless by themselves, but connected to a greater radar network via command posts and they could work as quite cost effective stop-gaps.

S-300VM= 1 in service, with 11 on order
    BUK-M2= 3 missile systems
    S-125 Pechora-2M= 11 mobile missile systems
Tor M-1= 12 already in service, with 12 to be delivered for a total of 24

Quite good i guess, in all ranges

Sadly there are no general concensus or info about the exact number of S-300VM on order. Interesting enough we still do not know what country ordered S-300VM that Russia made during

2014. But still Venezuela air defense is light years where it was several years ago. Still lots needs to be done.

Here's what I've got so far:

    19 Brigade (Maracaibo)
    -191 Group, Pechora-2M, BARU
    -192 Group, Pechora-2M, Josefa Camejo
    -198 Group, Igla-S, Maracaibo

    29 Brigade (El Sombrero)
    -297 Group
-X Group, Antey-2500, BAMARI (might be 297 Group)

    39 Brigade (Caracas)
    -391 Group, Pechora-2M, Charallave
    -392 Group, Pechora-2M
-393 Group, Buk-M2E, Meseta de Mano
    -394 Group, Antey-2500
    -399 Group, RBS-70, Cumana

    49 Brigade (Barcelona)

    59 Brigade (Guayana)
    -599 Group, Igla-S, El Guri

    69 Brigade

One thing that makes the process tedious is that acronyms are often used for FAV bases.  BAMARI, for example, is B.A. Manuel Rios.  Also, although integrated under the air defence command structure, 393 Group is operated by either the Navy or Marines.  Anyway, ongoing process.

On Bing maps you can see some S-300VM equipment at Carrizales / El Sombrero Base Aérea Capitan Manuel Ríos Guarico AB.

I believe it was the recent crash while 'chasing' drug smuggler plane.
I don't think cause of crash was announced.

Venezuela receives more Chinese K-8 trainers

The Venezuelan Air Force (Aviación Militar Bolivariana de Venezuela) in late February received six Hongdu K-8W jet trainers for its Grupo Aéreo de Operaciones Especiales N 15 based at Maracaibo, IHS Jane's has learned.

The aircraft are to replace three lost in accidents and are part of a batch of nine purchased in 2013, with the other three expected to arrive soon in Venezuela, sources told IHS Jane's on 14 March.

Originally, Venezuela received 18 K-8Ws from January 2010 for N 15 and the Grupo Aéreo de Caza N 12 at Barquisimeto. For Grupo 12 the K-8Ws replaced the Northrop VF-5A Freedom Fighter and for Grupo 15 they replaced the Boeing (Rockwell) OV-10 Bronco, performing advanced training, light attack, and operations against illegal flights.

Ooh god, so many good hardware, a pity that the biggest threat to Venezuela is internal social/political upheaval, in a few years we're gonna see a lot of pics of U.S inspectors analyzing these, poor Flanker and Antey-2500.
