after liberating the cities of Kubaiysa and Heet in Anbar (total population of the connurbations over 300,000) The army and PMU forces are now converging onto Rutba in western Anbar to clear that city from Daesh and have control of Anbar all the way up to AL Qaim.

IMO, the missile came in the from the right and whiffed the add on armor, without touching the main armor.
The Turk M60 got lucky.

Turkey is a diverse country.
Large chunks of the military pull from the same groups of people that the Islamist rebels in Aleppo and Idlib pull from. The same army also turns a blind eye to, and cooperates with ISIS, which has a bipolar relationship with the aforementioned islamists rebels. Eventually, this clusterfuck of loyalties within the Turkish Army is going to turn sour.

The M60 has sheet metal sponsons like Soviet MBT's. If you watch the video again, you can see sheet metal going every which way when the missile hits.

Is a thermobaric warhead the right tool for the job against armour ? I know the blast wave from a thermobaric weapon is very dense but it works best and is designed for softer targets ? I admit I don't know the exact effect thermobaric would have relative to armour piercing shaped charge.

Thermobaric warheads are ok aganist lightly armored targets, however aganist tanks or heavy APCs they wont do any good.

HEAT and Sabots are vastly superior against armor. Thermobaric and HE-Frag are the best options against human targets, HE-Frag is the best option for insurgents out in the open, while thermobaric are superior in taking out enemies inside buildings and bunkers.

Washington (AFP) - The US Air Force for the first time deployed a B-52 bomber against the Islamic State, the Pentagon said Wednesday as it ramps up a 20-month campaign to smash the jihadists.
The bombing mission, in which a hulking B-52 destroyed a weapons storage facility south of Mosul, comes the same week that Defense Secretary Ash Carter visited Baghdad and announced extra US troops, cash and equipment for the anti-IS campaign in Iraq.
In other signs of an increasing tempo, US commandos working with Kurdish troops conducted a raid targeting a senior IS group figure and the Pentagon said it has changed how air strikes risking civilian deaths are approved.
Under the new rules, authority now comes from the commanding three-star US general in Baghdad, instead of going through a four-star at the US Central Command's headquarters in Florida.

Regarding the damaged M-60, a turkish newspaper said that one of the crewman was "bleeding" but the tank was able to return fire. The hypothesis that the kornet's jet grazed the commander's station is probably correct, the armor failed.

That tank was able to return fire but surely not to watch where it was firing. the main sight was fucked up.

Supposedly the tank killed ten ISIS fighters after they launched the missile... but it might as well have been a hundred.
In the first half of the original video, the ATGM team isn't putting any effort in concealing their position, so they were probably far back, too far for a tank with fucked optics and an injured crewman to do anything. That part of the tale is certainly BS.
