Beyond observing the border area & intercepting communications, how else they can spy on Iran from there? I doubt UAVs can be used over Iran after 1 was captured & reverse-engineered. Crossing the border is very risky- if they r captured, it will be a political/Intel disaster.

The US used to send old US bombers converted into recon planes at and then into Soviet territory to test responses and defences...

They would send these old bombers... for instance a recon plane based on the B-25 would be called an RB-25 and sent into Soviet airspace with radars on and sensors on trying to detect radars... their characteristics and locations... the radio frequency used by pilots and SAM operators... their intercept procedures etc etc etc... all this stuff was recorded for use in plans to penetrate Soviet airspace on bombing missions... lots of planes were caught and shot down when they didn't land...

On the border with Iran they could do the same... any old UAV could be used with all the sensors over the border listening and collecting all sorts of information.

Different UAVs could be used to test the performance of the defences against different threats... tiny stealthy UAVs... big lumbering ones and everything else in between... the data collected would be very useful for planning invasion and attack missions...

Israel will have hard time attacking Iran from the West & South;
doing so from the East is beyond its capability.

Trump needs a withdrawal to boost his reelection chances and I suspect he wants to withdraw from Afghanistan... at least officially, so that might not be an option in the near future.

Of course he wants Russia and India and Pakistan to take over in Afghanistan and keep up the good work America started.

What I want to know is how is the CIA going to deal with that sort of pay cut... who will defend their 50 billion a year poppy fields?
