    The Eleventh An-148 for the Ministry of Defense of Russia

    It is reported that on September 13, 2017 in Voronezh, flight tests of the next An-148-100E passenger aircraft, built by JSC "Voronezh Joint-Stock Aircraft Building Society" (VASO, part of United Aircraft Corporation-UAC) for the Russian Defense Ministry-cars with serial number 43-08 and registration number RA-61731. This board became the first An-148, raised in the air in Voronezh in 2017.

    As it became known to Kommersant, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation transferred four new MiG-29SMT fighters delivered to the agency of the same name by the corporation in December 2015 at the airbase of Khmeimim (Latakia). According to Kommersant, the cars were sent to the region in order to provide practice to the maximum number of pilots, and also to run the aircraft in combat conditions. The expert believes that the use of MiG-29SMT in Syria will allow the corporation MiG to support its export potential

    The first information about the forthcoming transfer of MiGs from Russia to Syria appeared more than a year ago. In private conversations, several officers of the staff of the Air and Space Forces of the Russian Federation assumed that in the very near future several MiG fighters would appear in Khmeimim. Thus, the military expected to finish the "run-through" of the flight crew in conditions of actual military operations. However, due to the tense situation in Syria, which developed at that time, did not experiment with the newest machines, relying on the multi-functional Su-30SM and Su-35 fighter aircraft already proven in the campaign.

    A year later the situation changed. Yesterday, the first confirmation of the presence of MiG-29SMT in Syria appeared. In the photo report of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, published on the official website within the press tour of Russian and foreign journalists in Syria, a photograph of this type of fighter appeared (board number 23 blue). According to Kommersant sources in the military authorities, this machine was transferred to Khmeimim last week from the 116th Training Center for Combat Training of the 185th Combat Training and Combat Training Center of the Russian Federation Air Force (Privolzhsky, Astrakhan). Together with it three similar MiG-29SMT arrived from there

    According to the interlocutors of "Kommersant" close to the General Staff of the RF Armed Forces, the transfer of the MiG-29SMT to Syria should solve several problems at once. First, the crews of these fighters should receive combat experience (in May, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu declared that 86% of the air force had received it in Syria). Secondly, even taking into account the running-in of aircraft during various exercises, the military wanted to see how the machine and its avionics will behave on the battlefield. So far, according to Kommersant's information, the crews of the MiG-29SMT are primarily carrying out reconnaissance missions, although they are sometimes connected to combat missions. It is known that at least one of the MiGs has already discharged high-explosive high-explosive aviation bombs OFAB-500Kr to the position of the Islamic state militants (it is forbidden in the Russian Federation). Subsequently, the test program for the MiG-29SMT will only expand: according to Kommersant's information, the military can also launch cruise missiles with laser homing X-29L

    Director of the Center for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies Ruslan Pukhov believes that in addition to practical purposes (testing of the TTX and performance characteristics), the sending of the MiG-29SMT to Syria is pursued and purely commercial. "Successful actions of Russian equipment in Syria are its best advertising on the international market, so the participation of" mihovsky "machines in the operation will support the export potential of the corporation," the expert stresses.

    Wasn't Syria reportedly procuring additional MiG-29s? There were also some reports suggesting that Syria would also buy MiG-31 Foxhounds. Of course these reports date back to before the war had started. But the question still remains on whether Syria did eventually buy these formidable Russian combat aircraft, or not.

    Anyone have any confirmation on this subject?

    War changed the spending to other directions for Syria. They ordered Yak-130 too. And Russia don't export MiG-31! There was an attempt in 2005 but Putin said "Nyet". Everything you hear about exporting MiG-31 is a hoax until Kremlin lift the export ban.

    Today there was a large 2500 man parachute drop using 20 Il-76's. An interesting side to this drop was for the first time the Air Force practiced control of the operation strictly from the air utilizing an A-50 and a Il-22 for operational and aircraft control. The Il-76's practiced an "Afghan descent" when they landed afterwards (step descent with a short landing). Both skills imperative for any long range Airborne operations in foreign or hostile environments.

    Today is Army Aviation Day. Army Aviation units are equipped with Helicopters in support of the Ground Forces (Army). Plans are for each Military District to have a Brigade (4 squadrons) and each Combined Arms Army / Army Corp to have a Regiment (2-3 squadrons). According to the article they are at 75% modernized.

    It's a foreign aircraft so don't see that. Suspect they are calling the Yak-152 a Diamond.

    English Wiki says two for FSB a few years back, but RU Wiki has nothing other than saying some parts manufactured in Russia for it.

    Looks versatile though, plus twin engine reliability... still hope they're going with Yak-152.

    it will be used for training of logistics flights by sounds of it. These type of planes cannot maneuver like Yak-152 can which will be first for training fighters.
