The Russian frigate "Admiral Gorshkov" conducted exercises in the Pacific Ocean to search for submarines, reports TASS with reference to the press service of the Northern Fleet.

"The exercises were held in the central part of the Pacific Ocean, south-east of the Hawaiian Islands," the press service said.

The search for the submarine "Admiral Gorshkov" was engaged with the help of onboard sonar weapons, the Ka-27 helicopter also took part in the exercises. During the flight, the helicopter used a descending hydroacoustic station.

Edit: I think the 'South East' is probably actually North West, Google translate seems to have problems with compass directions like that.
Edit2: though Yandex also says South East dunno

They looked for US subs there. If it goes on modernization soon it means its ASW suck. If not then it means they found US subs nicely.

I should think Gorshkov has no need to go half way round the world to be in a place where a US sub is hanging out, probably one of the most certain places in the world for one to be is not far outside Murmansk...

What would US subs be doing in Central Pacific?

They have dozen higher priority areas in that ocean alone.

Does this mean they can finally start building more than two at a time?

These are multirole ships with a range of capabilities and systems... any of which might have been found wanting, so an upgrade or fix or patch might be needed even if it found US subs with no problems...

Does this mean they can finally start building more than two at a time?

How many bottlenecks were there... the propulsion and the SAMs... and it sounds like the SAMs and propulsion are now sorted... so they need to decide how many they want to build and order them...

Sadly, so far the pattern seems to be when they get something they decide they want an upgraded M model that is bigger... and now that propulsion is sorted if they want a 7,000 ton upgraded version you are starting to look at small nuke propulsion instead... which is OK too of course.

Next onto the Panama Canal then Venezuela, then Cuba and finally off home?

If they replenish in Morocco or Spain, as I think they did on the way out, that would mark their circumnavigation of the World.

Why this would be needed for circumnavigation? Circumnavigation would be completed even if they would go straight to STP.

Moderately surprised that the US hasn't brow-beaten Panama into banning Russian ships from the canal given the amount of fuss they make over Russian ships refueling at Ceuta dunno

Short video of passing through the lock at link. Interesting comment there about why the other ships are not in a little convoy with her. Heading for Venezuela on her own?
