Yak-130 is for advanced training. MiG-AT is intended for basic training

An other aircraft in inventory, between the Yak-152 and the Yak-130 ??

Or between the sr-10 and yak 130 I would say.

No the article say that it will be selected instead of sr-10

    Elementary training: Yak-152
    Basic training: MiG-AT
    Advanced training: Yak-130

Thank you. But I would have preferred the idea of PapaDragon. MiG is too close to Yak-130 in capacity (it was it's opponent in the program for the supply of a training plane).

MiG-AT and Yak-130 are in the same class of trainers and both are twin engine planes. Decision to go with MiG-AT in production could only mean, that something went wrong with SR-10. But there is also other option to replace SR-10. Yak-152 is still in testing phase and they could easily develop a little bigger version with turboprop engine instead of diesel one and get advanced trainer in the class of PC-9 or PC-21, which could be used between basic Yak-152 and Yak-130.

PC-9 or Tucano are not used as basic trainers, Diamond DA-40 or Zlin-242 are used before pilots went to PC-9 or Tucano, which are turboprop planes.

SR-10 is a civilian enthusiast aircraft.

    Military pitch was afterthought.

Mig is a big company that don't produce a lot since 90s. It is better to support them than add another company that would produce fighters/trainers while they already have mig sukhoi yak ...

Only 3 r visible. I would expect the naval SU-30SMs going there too.

To help celebrate the 106th anniversary of the Russian Air Forces...

"Two third of flying and technical personnel of the Russian air force received field practice during the military operation in Syria, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said on Saturday on the air with the Rossiya 24 TV Channel.

“Speaking about aviation, I would say that a greater portion, two thirds of flying and technical staff, received in-field practice and had extensive combat practice. We now have many young pilots with one hundred and more tactical missions,” he stated.

“We made scheduled rotations, so that as much flying staff as possible could participate in this operation, in the operation against international terrorism. However, this refers to other services as well,” the minister said."

Or they maybe upgrading and replacing the regular Su-25's stationed there. They are there to assist Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan if any Jihadist come across their borders.

Good news regarding the MiG-AT... it seemed the thoughts at the time the Yak was selected that they both would do the job, the MiG would be cheaper, but the Yak had potential to be further developed into a light strike aircraft and various other planned models... none of which ever made it to service.

Having two jet fighter trainers might sound wasteful, but if the Su-35 and Su-57 are going to be single seat aircraft then an extra training stage would be valuable.

I liked the idea of the SR-10, but clearly it is not good enough.

In every case i quite a good news: it will reply the trhee plane model used by AMI with its "diverse twin" M-346.

    SF260T (i.e. with turboprop)-M-345-M346

SR-10 would have been better in this sense as it would be of the same class of M-345 while MiG-AT is heavier than former M-339.
M-346/Yak-130 are very costly to operate but they are a must if you want to replicate performance of a 4++ gen plane so the idea is to use it just for advanced phase + a part of the syllabus previously made on OCU/ U version of fighter itself
Turboprop plane would in the same way take a part of the basic training made previously with the former jet trainer and a lighter, more economical trainer would close the gap between the two.
Overall result is consistent savings and a way smoother transition between different phases.
