I think you would find that 'supersonic' aircraft spend a remarkably small part of their flying lives actually wizzing along above the speed of sound. Amongst other reasons it costs too much and annoys civilians.

Obviously, but a situation of escorting strategic bombers or auxiliary aircrats over hostile territory would be part of the small part of their flying life where would be better to use supersonic speed.

Syria is not a very dangerious scenario (low air defense density of the adversaries and air interdiction for adversary aircrafts) but this is not something always will happen.

Mig 29SMT---- over two and a half months of operation, the aircraft had carried out more than 140 sorties

Think that reads as totals, not one aircraft doing 140 sorties. There was a photo with a 50 sortie plane, pretty good going.

Another f*ing stupid announcement from Moscow that is clearly an exaggeration. There are sadly many lives to be lost before ISIS is flushed out of the 9000 plus sqkm that they still occupy.

Why on earth do they do this?

I think they mean IS no longer holds anything larger than a village

Where is the fight with ISIS now in either Syria and Iraq?

I see some delay in the map coloring game, but little fight.

Another (political) reason for the declaration...

And #USA is moving #ISIS away from Syria and allies guns for a safer area east of the Euphrates and won't declare #ISIS defeated because it will have to end its occupation of northern #Syria

    Moved from other thread.

Putin meets Assad very early this morning, this time in Syria. Wonder what flightpath his plane a Tu-214 took. Looks like Sergey Shoygu is with him, quite a target! Video at link

Not for long though. The Presidential Il-96 has landed in Cairo as well, perhaps for his trip home.

If only Russia has UCAV equipped with SATCOM like America and China do, Russia would be able to destroy terrorists from half a world away without having to deploy a lot of men to operate them.

Think what you like about Soheil and his hobo, part-time selfie crew, but good Lord the man is bossing the war.
Hats off to the lad, I bet it's very important for him to be seated at that table.

This picture shows the Russians holding back Assad as Putin starts walking to a military ceremony by the look of it. There is an interesting Russian in this picture. At the back of the group and in the frame slightly to the left of Putin's head dressed in a parka. That is 'briefcase' man, never far from the Boss. Actually he seems to be part of a team of 'briefcase' men as another takes over in Turkey later in the day. They both look pretty 'useful'.

I suspect a machine pistol instead. Noticed him and 2 others coming off Putin's plane. All carrying bags and looking everywhere else. Wink

So what aircraft do you guys think will stay in Syria? And ships? I am guessing Su-24 and Su-30 mixed in with the MiG-29SMT? Need some air superiority mixed in with some ground capabilities.
