The obvious problems are its length... it is 6 metres long... so six metres behind where its front fans are there is 25 tons of thrust pushing down... what are you going to put up the front to balance that sort of force? Another one?

The engine itself weigh 3.5 tons... what are they going to mount in the front that can match its lift and doesn't add another 3.5 tons of weight?

The Tu-160 is an expensive aircraft to run... it burns through a lot of fuel per hour... even if the fuel consumption is dramatically reduced it is still going to need a huge amount of fuel to get any decent flight range...

In comparison a cat assisted takeoff and arrested landing and you put this engine into an aircraft and it is going to be a very fast medium to heavy fighter.

similar to F-35 with one engine ? after wiki

" The Lift System is composed of a lift fan, drive shaft, two roll posts and a "Three Bearing Swivel Module" (3BSM).[66] The 3BSM is a thrust vectoring nozzle which allows the main engine exhaust to be deflected downward at the tail of the aircraft. The lift fan is near the front of the aircraft and provides a counterbalancing thrust using two counter-rotating blisks.[67] It is powered by the engine's low-pressure (LP) turbine via a drive shaft and gearbox. Roll control during slow flight is achieved by diverting unheated engine bypass air through wing-mounted thrust nozzles called Roll Posts.[68][69]"

Garry Garry Garry, you're such a pessimist Cool Cool Cool

    NK-32 (before update model)
    Specific fuel consumption: (supersonic) 48g/kN/hour[6](subsonic): 0.72-0.73 kg/kgf/hour[6]

For F-35 I've found something like 0,88 lb/lbf/hr but at thgsi time I am not going to calculate this respekt respekt respekt

The VSTOL fighter is a one trick pony that creates more problems than it solves.

You end up with carriers that are too small to be useful for anything, with light weak aircraft that are as fragile as anything and not really more useful than a much simpler conventional aircraft.

CATOBAR means normal aircraft but also much more capable AWACS support which is worth is weight in gold.

BTW with 14 tons of dry thrust and 25 tons of max thrust that means at these power settings the aircraft.. even with no other lift engines as such will be burning

0.72kgs of fuel per kg of thrust per hour... so at 14 tons dry thrust that is 10 tons of fuel per hour of flight in dry thrust.

Use that afterburner and 18 tons of fuel get burned every single hour... how big is this fighter going to be?

How do you feel about VSTOL elephants?

New wings of the Russian Air Force , What will the Russian front aviation fly in 10 years

    Ilya Kramnik

    https://iz.ru/679043/ilia-kramnik/novye-krylia-vvs-rossii

In Russia, the process of coordinating the state arms program (SPP) for 2018-2027 is coming to an end. The exact figures of the state defense order are closed and, most likely, they will remain so, however, some assumptions about the parameters of the future program can be made. iz.ru understood the expected orders for the Russian Air Force.

    New "Dryers"

The air force, organizationally part of the Air and Space Forces of the Russian Federation, remains their largest element. According to the total number of aircraft and helicopters of all types, the Russian Air Force shares the second place in the world with the air force of the People's Liberation Army of China (PLA), second only to the US Air Force. A significant part of the aviation fleet has already been updated within the framework of the completed armaments state program 2006-2015 and the current GPV (2011-2020). Especially it concerns helicopters.

Nevertheless, in the Air Force units there are still a lot of Soviet-built aircraft equipment. In military transport, long-range and special aviation, heavy aircraft with a large resource can fly for several decades, but front-line fighter planes, bombers and other Soviet-built tactical aircraft will obviously be completely replaced in the next decade,

The basis of the procurement program for front-line aviation will still be the Su aircraft. In total, according to available information, as part of the airborne regiments of the Air Force it is intended to have at least 700 fighters (excluding machines stored). About 450 of them are fighters of the Sukhoi Design Bureau, in the overwhelming majority of the new construction, with the exception of a few dozen Su-27 fighters that have undergone modernization into the Su-27SM variant.

First of all it is worth mentioning the Irkutsk Su-30SM, which is also supplied for naval aviation of the Russian Navy. In total, for the Ministry of Defense of Russia, starting in 2012, 116 Su-30SM aircraft were contracted, of which 88 are intended for the Air Force, and 28 for the fleet aviation. Currently, under the signed agreements, about 100 aircraft have been delivered, and according to available information, a new contract for the delivery of another 50 planes for the Defense Ministry should be signed in the near future. This contract should be implemented by 2022, after which the Irkutsk Aircraft Plant will focus on the production of the MS-21 liner currently undergoing testing.

Procurement of the more advanced version of the T-10 platform, the Su-35S fighter, will be continued. It is assumed that in addition to 98 fighters of this type, contracted under the two agreements of 2009 and 2015, no less number of cars of this type will be purchased.

MiG-35 will hang in the air

Aerospace forces order super-maneuverable fighter with the latest on-board equipment In addition, in Komsomolsk, a fifth-generation fighter, the Su-57, is being manufactured. The information on the possible volume of the proposed purchases of this machine varies, but it is most likely that by the end of the new LG, the Air Force will have about 60 vehicles of this type, the first 12 of which will be delivered before the end of 2021 and be tested before the start of the series purchases. It is possible that the lack of fifth-generation machines will be replenished by increasing purchases of Su-30 and Su-35 fighters.

    Upgraded "MiGs"

The most numerous representative of the "MiG" brand in the troops in the next decade will still be the Soviet machine - the upgraded MiG-31 interceptor fighter. Capital repair and modernization of these machines are now put on stream, and taking into account the need to cover large areas in the north and the Far East, the total number of repaired interceptors in the Air Force may in the next decade be about 150 aircraft. Also remain in the ranks received in the second half of the zero and in 2010, several dozen fighters MiG-29SMT / UBT. A newer version of "product 9", the MiG-35, is unlikely to be purchased in quantities comparable to Sukhoi, but after mastering a new radar for this fighter, it is possible that new contracts are signed. According to expert estimates,

The shock units of frontline aviation will be equipped exclusively with Sukhoi vehicles. The only representative of the Soviet aircraft industry will be the Su-25 attack aircraft. Most likely, assault aviation regiments will have at least 120-140 modernized aircraft of this type equipped with new guided air munitions.

Another veteran of the USSR Air Force, the Su-24M bomber, who worked brilliantly in the Syrian campaign under the curtain of the career, will still go "on the way out," but only because, unlike the Su-25, he has something to replace: the Su-34 bomber also perfectly showed yourself in Syria. Under the current contracts, the Russian Air Force has already received about 110 vehicles of this type, and the total demand for the Su-34 is close to 200 units. It is not excluded that a new contract for the supply of these bombers will be concluded in 2018-2019, in addition, purchases of Su-34 for naval aviation of the Russian Navy are possible.

The foregoing means that there are about 1,000 vehicles in the air force of the Russian Air Force. On the one hand, this is much less than the Soviet Air Force once had, as well as the fewer planes that the tactical air wings of the Air Force and the US Navy deck aviation, along with the aviation of the Marine Corps, will have. But on the other hand, given the existing tasks, this number is estimated as sufficient.

In the final analysis, it is meaningless to compare the size of the Russian Air Force and potential adversaries. The outcome of the war, in which this correlation of forces really will make sense, is decided not by front-line aviation. In the same conflicts that Russia is likely to face in the next 10 years, no less burden will fall on other components of the Air Force. We will talk about the prospects for their renewal later.

I am not saying with a lot of clever design choices that they can't make an adequate design... but I think they would be much better off not thinking about a tiny carrier with dinky little VSTOL aircraft... a medium sized carrier offers better endurance and a larger air fleet and when fitted with EM cats it can operate medium AWACS types that would greatly improve the situational awareness of the fleet, especially against low flying threats.

Low flying cruise missiles are especially potent against targets on land because the land is not flat so there are lots of blind spots you can take advantage of when planning the attack route.

At sea there are no mountains except near land or islands, but without carriers there is no air based radars so the problem is with the radar horizon.

A carrier with AWACS capabilities means you can operate airborne radars that don't have blind spots against low flying threats and can see much further without giving away the location of the carrier and ships it is operating with, yet can pass information to those ships so they are not operating in the dark.
They can also manage a group of interceptors and manage an interception so you get the best out of the air group you have.

The enemy wont know how many ships you have, just that you have an AWACS aircraft so you have at least one carrier... everything else can operate radio silent so actually finding your SAG is not that easy and when you get within range with a full scale attack the entire fleet and all the fighters can light up and start taking you down.... not when you cross the radar horizon of the biggest ship... when you are in range of the AWACS aircraft that might be 500km away from the carrier and cruisers.

It is a simple fact that once the carrier is paid for it is the SAG and operational costs that matter and a medium carrier wont cost that much more than a light carrier but will carry more aircraft and more ordinance and equipment and create a much bigger umbrella over the ships or subs.

Russian bombers to be armed with new Kh-50 theatre-level cruise missile
Piotr Butowski - IHS Jane's Missiles & Rockets

    http://www.janes.com/article/76602/russian-bombers-to-be-armed-with-new-kh-50-theatre-level-cruise-missile

Russian sources in early December disclosed the designation ‘Kh-50’ for new Russian airborne theatre-level (substrategic) cruise missile. Purchases of production Kh-50 missiles are planned under Russia’s State Armament Programme for 2018–27 (GPV-2027), the sources added.

Developed by Raduga Design Bureau of Dubna within the Kh-SD (Sredney Dalnosti, medium-range) programme, the Kh-50 is expected to be a subsonic cruise missile utilising the guidance system of the strategic Kh-101 missile but with a smaller, low-observable airframe, similar to the US AGM-158 Joint Air-to-Surface Stand-off Missile (JASSM). Research and development work on the Kh-SD began in early 1990s, but was subsequently suspended for a number of years.

Designed to fit in the weapon bays of the Tupolev Tu-22M3 theatre and Tu-95MS and Tu-160 strategic bombers, the Kh-50 missile is about 6m (19.7 ft) in length – about 1.5 m (4.9 ft) less than the Kh-101 – and weighs around 1,600 kg (3,527 lb). Powered by an OMKB izdeliye 37-04 (or TRDD-50B) turbofan engine, the missile is expected to achieve a range of over 1,500 km (810 n miles), a cruise speed of 700 km/h (378 kt), and a maximum speed of 950 km/h (513 kt).

The missile’s body has a flattened cross-section and faceted sides; this shape combines the requirements of radar cross-section reduction and the most efficient use of the heavy bomber’s weapon bay capacity when loaded on six-round rotating launcher. The guidance system includes strap-down inertial navigation corrected by GPS/GLONASS for the cruise phase, and an Otblesk electro-optical digital scene-matching area correlation (DSMAC) system for use close to the target. Apart from the low-observable airframe, to penetrate the enemy air defence the Kh-50 missile uses low-altitude flight profile and is equipped with self-protection devices, including a small active electronic jammer and towed decoys.

The Ministry of Defense of Russia has received ten new helicopters "Ansat-U"
    entry is in top1000 rating

    December 21st, 1:32 am

As reported on December 20, 2017 by the Department of Information and Communications of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the final batch of new training helicopters Ansat-U entered the training aviation base of the Air Force Academy named after NE Zhukovsky and Yuri Gagarin, in the Saratov region. Crews Syzran branch of the Academy have completed the relocation of five helicopters from the manufacturer to the airport dislocation.

The State Defense Order-2017 for the supply of 10 helicopters of this type is completely completed. In November, five Ansat-U helicopters were also delivered to the Air Force Academy. Civilians from the HMSU. On the bmpd side, we recall that on June 5, 2017, the Russian Defense Ministry concluded another contract with PJSC Kazan Helicopter Plant (KHZ, part of the Russian Helicopters JSC) for the supply of ten Ansat-U training helicopters at a total cost of 2,075,438 billion rubles. The delivery was to be made by December 31, 2017, and was implemented on time.

The first five Ansat-U helicopters arrived in the training aviation group at the Sokol aerodrome (Saratov region) of the Syzran branch of the Military Educational and Scientific Center of the Military Space Station "The Air Force Academy named after Professor NE Kuznetsov. Zhukovsky and Yu.A. Gagarin "on November 19, 2017. Now the remaining five helicopters are delivered. The prospective serial numbers of the helicopters delivered in 2017 from 33078 to 33087 are not yet known.

Thus, by the present time, the Russian Ministry of Defense has received 50 Ansat-U helicopters under three contracts. Under the first contract, the KVZ supplied the Russian Air Force with eight Ansat-U helicopters (serial numbers from 33028 to 33035), including six in 2009 and two in 2010. Then the Ministry of Defense on March 1, 2011 signed a contract with KVZ to supply 32 Ansat-U vehicles. The contract cost of one Ansat-U helicopter under this contract was 127.72246 million rubles without VAT. Under this contract, five Ansat-U helicopters were delivered by the Russian Air Force in 2011, six in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015, and three in 2016 (serial numbers from 33036 to 33067).

Of the delivered Ansat-U helicopters, the first three helicopters (28, 29 and 30 onboard numbers, coinciding with the latest figures of seriynyh numbers) were built in 2009 in the training center of army aviation in Torzhok, and the remaining 47 vehicles from 2010 the Air Force Academy named after Professor NE Zhukovsky and YA Gagarin (the side numbers of the first 37 helicopters from the " 31 "to" 67. ") In 2015, two Ansat-U helicopters were were transferred from Syzran to the 800th Special Purpose Aviation Base (now the 8th Special Aviation Division) at the Chkalovsky airfield outside Moscow, then changing the airborne numbers from "59" and "60" to "259" and "260" respectively, .

According to the known data, as a result of the implementation of the 2017 contract for the supply of ten Ansat-U helicopters to the Ministry of Defense, and the continuing supply of Ansat helicopters with a hydromechanical control system (HMSS) in medical performance for State Transport Leasing Company (GTLK) , the total number of the Ansat helicopters built by the helicopter of all modifications has now reached 80 units - seven prototypes (five with EDSU and two with HMSU), 50 Ansat-U military vehicles with EDSU, 12 civilian with EMF, 11 civilian with HMSU .

The Ministry of Defense of Russia concluded a contract for ten Mi-8AMTSH helicopters

    December 21st, 2:07 am

As reported on December 20, 2017 by the Department of Information and Communications of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, within the framework of the implementation of the state defense order of the State Defense Order of Russia in 2018-2020, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation and JSC Ulan-Ude Aviation Plant (UUAZ) concluded state contracts for the supply of Aerospace the forces of Russia Mi-8AMTSh-V and Mi-8AMTSh helicopters in the "salon" configuration.

According to the terms of the contract, until the end of 2018, two newest Mi-AMTSH-B helicopters will be transferred to the MKS, and by the end of 2019 - eight Mi-8AMTSh helicopters in the "saloon" configuration.

The helicopter Mi-8AMTSh-1 in the complete set of "salon" (registration number RF-39201, serial number 8AMTS01643115708U) of the Russian Civil Aviation. Chkalovsky (Moscow region), 14.02.2013 (c) Timofey Nikishin / russianplanes.net (link)

    (Collapse)

For reference: Mi-8AMTSH-V is a further development of the helicopter range of Mi-8AMTSH transport-combat helicopters.

Mi-8AMTSH "salon" is intended for the transport of personnel of the Ministry of Defense of Russia.

Both types of helicopters can be used for transport, search and rescue, medical evacuation operations, as well as for special tasks. They are equipped with modern flight control and navigation equipment and a communication complex. In addition, the helicopters are adapted to use night vision goggles, which allows you to fly in the dark at very low altitudes, as well as take off and landing from unequipped areas.

The power plant of helicopters provides for the installation of Russian VK-2500-03 engines with increased power and a strengthened transmission, which makes the application of technology more efficient in high-altitude and hot-climate areas. Helicopters are also equipped with the satellite navigation system "BMS-indicator", as well as the digital navigation system CNS-02.

All helicopters will be adapted to the installation of laser on-board defense systems.

The bmpd comment. Recall that the helicopters Mi-8AMTSH-1 in the kit "Salon" were developed initially by the decision of the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation N. Makarov dated July 1, 2011, and two such helicopters costing 304 million rubles each were supplied by UUAZ by the Ministry of Defense December 1, 2012 under a contract dated August 1, 2011, for use by the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation and the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. The order of these helicopters was actively used in a campaign in the media against the then Defense Minister A.E. Serdyukov. At least one more helicopter of such a configuration was later manufactured for aviation by the FSB.

The Far East will be covered with a sea air shield
The Pacific Fleet is creating a new army of air force and air defense

    https://iz.ru/679966/sergei-valchenko-aleksei-ramm-evgenii-andreev/dalnii-vostok-prikroiut-morskim-vozdushnym-shchitom

In 2018, naval aviation and air defense forces of the Pacific Fleet will be united as part of a powerful army with a headquarters in Kamchatka. The new operational association will include at least two divisions - the aviation and air defense forces. He is charged with controlling the air situation in Kamchatka, Chukotka and in the Arctic region. According to experts, the formation of the Air Force and Air Defense Forces in the neighborhood with Alaska testifies to the buildup of the Pacific Fleet's strike potential.
As Izvestia was informed by the Defense Ministry, the formation of the army of the Air Force and Air Defense will begin in 2018. It will include aviation units, anti-aircraft missile and radio-technical troops.
The area of responsibility of the future operational association extends from the Northern Kurils to the Arctic island of Wrangel

Such transformations also occur in other fleets. In December 2015, the 45th Army of the Air Force and Air Defense of the Northern Fleet was formed. As Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu then said, this was done to strengthen airspace control in the Arctic.
Simultaneously with the formation of the Pacific army of the Air Force and Air Defense, the structure of the air forces is changing. Instead of the amorphous and poorly managed "airbases" created after the not entirely successful reform of 2008, regiments and divisions are being recreated. The combined aviation regiments, along with the squadrons of anti-submarine and transport aircraft, fighters, reconnaissance and missile carriers, will include units of unmanned aerial vehicles.

The basis of the new army's grouping will be the one stationed in Elizovo near Petropavlovsk- Kamchatka 317th mixed air regiment and the 53rd air defense division based there. As part of the air regiment, there is a squadron of anti-submarine aircraft with upgraded Il-38N Novella. In Elizovo, high-altitude interceptors Mig-31 are also based. In Kamchatka, there are also squadrons of helicopters and drones. The military department does not exclude that some forces will be replenished with new equipment in the future.
As part of the 53rd Air Defense Division - the radio and anti-aircraft missile shelves. As well as radar posts, aviation commandant's offices, aviation guidance points located in Kamchatka, Chukotka, Wrangel Island and other areas of the Russian northeast.

The forces of aviation and air defense under the united command will be able to quickly monitor threats in their area of responsibility and effectively counter them. The task of the grouping is to eliminate the sudden air attack, to immediately stop any attempts to test the Russian borders for strength. The Air Force and Air Defense Army will operate in a single control loop with the main forces of the Pacific Fleet and the entire Eastern Military District

As the military expert Aleksey Leonkov told Izvestia, the creation of such formations in the Pacific direction is very timely.
This region has recently become "hot." US military activity here has increased several times under the pretext of the North Korean missile threat, - explained Alexey Leonkov. - In the area of Chukotka and Kamchatka, we directly border Alaska, where large air and sea bases of the USA are built. In the Pacific, the United States has six aircraft carriers.
According to the expert, the formation of the air force and air defense armies can be regarded as an asymmetric response to the activity of US military aviation.
The concentration under the single command of reconnaissance and strike capabilities of naval aviation and air defense forces is a significant deterrent for any aggressive encroachment, "said Aleksei Leonkov
It is expected that in the second phase of the structural reform, another army (???) of the Air Force and Air Defense will be part of the Pacific Fleet with its subordinate units deployed in Primorye. The zone of its responsibility will include Sakhalin, the Kuriles, the Sea of Japan and the Sea of Okhotsk. Near the Pacific borders of Russia from time to time appear with incomprehensible intentions large aircraft carriers of the United States.

    comment @AMCXXL:

As I said before in this forum , it is sense of the reform of the aviation in course is the one to recompose armies, divisions and regiments

There are 4 "terrestrial" districts with 4 VVS and PVO armies and it seems that there will be 4 "marine districts" that defend the peninsulas, islands and exclaves of Russia: Kamchatka, Kola, Crimea, Kaliningrad that could have their own Joint Strategic Commands with one VVS and PVO army,  based on the air forces (figthers, bombers, etc...) , air defense forces (Missiles and radiotecnical) and also Naval aviation (shipborne and antisubmarine aircraft)  located in those demarcations

This news confirms the omen. A new Joint Strategic Command will be created in the Pacific based on a PVO division and the Kamchatka "air base"
These formations are noth enough for an Army, only for an Army Corps size unit.
Later another army corps size unit with another PVO division and the "air base" of the East district (Nikolayevka, Knevichi, Monghokto) will join the JCS Pacific.

This means probably the 865 IAP of Yelizovo with MiG-31 will be upgraded from squadron to regiment , and is very probably that this fleet also receive as the other fleets, one regiment of Su-30SM for have at least a second regiment of fighters. A new figther regiment could be stationed in Sakhalin Island (Dolinsk-Sokol) or well in Primorie (Zolotaya Dolina). Also any regiment of Primorie could be trasnferred to this new Military District

In the distant future you should also have regiments of shipborne fighters, such as the 45th VVS i PVO of JSC North, when Russia finally builds an aircraft carrier

In the same way, is expected that 72 AvB of Kaliningrad will be the base for new regiments.
689 IAP with the squadron of Su-27P from the 72 AVB and a second squadron of repaired Su-27P or 27SM´s, willl be reopened when Chkalovsk is reopened
4 OMShAP with the sqdn. of Su-24 and next year other complete sqdn of Su-30SM will be restored in Chernyakhovsk
With this división and other división PVO with anti-aircraft misiles could be formed other Army or Army Corps of VVSiPVO in the Kaliningrad garrison ,managed by the Baltic Fleet.

This could be the future military territorial organization:

The Ministry of Defense of Russia began purchasing Diamond DA42T aircraft as training
    entry is in top200 rating

    December 26Th, 4:39

As reported on December 25, 2017 by the Department of Information and Communications of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, Deputy Minister of Defense Yuri Borisov visited the Urals Civil Aviation Plant (UZGA) in Yekaterinburg on a working visit.

The Diamond DA42T aircraft (on-board number "054"), intended for delivery to the Ministry of Defense of Russia, in the shop of JSC "Ural Civil Aviation Plant" (UZGA). Ekaterinburg, December 25, 2017 (with) Alexey Ivanov / TRK "Zvezda"

    (Collapse)

Speaking at a meeting with the company's staff, Yury Borisov said that the Russian Defense Ministry planned from 2019 on further purchases of Vorpost drones, improved taking into account combat experience in Syria and assembled entirely from Russian components.

"In Syria," Forpost "has proven itself from the very best side. Therefore, we are making plans for the next decade to use these complexes. Naturally, they will undergo modernization, "Yury Borisov explained.

He thanked the employees of the plant, who were constantly at the airbase of Khmeimim in Syria, where they provided maintenance for unmanned vehicles.

"The plant supplied about 30 Forpost complexes to the troops, but they were still assembled from imported components. At the request of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the plant has performed work on import substitution and we are discussing plans for ordering a new contract in 2019 with 100% localization. Thus, "Outpost" will be entirely Russian, "- said Yuri Borisov.

The reconnaissance unmanned fleet "Forpost" includes three aircraft and a ground control station. The weight of one aircraft is 500 kilograms. He is capable of reconnaissance from a height of five kilometers for 16 hours at a distance of up to 400 kilometers.

Yuri Borisov also said that "the Ministry of Defense has a firm contract for 35 training aircraft that will be used to train cadets of military transport aviation."

According to him, in 2017, three aircraft were delivered. In 2018, the state joint tests will be completed.

"In the plans for next year there are already 17 aircraft, and in 2019, another 15. Total will be 35 aircraft delivered," - explained Yuri Borisov.

He also noted that the Defense Ministry has plans to use the aircraft as a platform in other areas, including as a patrol.

In addition, the Ministry of Defense of Russia was interested in aircraft L-410.

"It interests us for use in difficult weather conditions, for landing on water, on snow. We provided a modification of the float and ski, so that it could be used in the interests of including special operations forces, "Yury Borisov said.

The multi-purpose 19-seat L-410 aircraft is produced at the Ural Civil Aviation Plant in two versions: as a training and transportation vehicle for cargo and passengers.

Modernization of the aircraft by the plant means, first of all, the replacement of the on-board equipment with the domestic one, the change in landing gear of the chassis is a ski chassis for landing on snow and a float for landing on water. In addition, a landing gear for landing on a soft ground, unprepared platform is being developed.

The bmpd comment. Thus, we are talking about the beginning of the purchase by the Ministry of Defense of Russia of light two-motor four-seat aircraft Diamond DA42 NG Twin Star, produced by the Austrian company Diamond Aircraft Industries GmbH, to be used as training aircraft for preparation for the Ural Civil Aviation Plant (UZGA) cadets of military transport aviation of the Russian Air Force. The DA42 NG airplanes are equipped with Austro Engine AE 300 aviation diesel engines from Austro Engine, owned by the same Diamond Aircraft,

Recall that the issue of the acquisition by the Ministry of Defense of Russia aircraft Diamond DA42 NG as training was instituted in 2010-2011. In 2013, UZGA received a contract from the Ministry of Defense to create a specialized training version of the DA42 NG, designated DA42T. Earlier it was reported that the assembly of DA42T at UZGA was to begin in 2015, and in 2016 it was planned to achieve their localization of the level of supposedly 100%. However, in fact, the assembly of these machines for the Ministry of Defense was started, as can be seen from the above message, only now.

UZGA also participates in the development of manned and unmanned observation platforms based on DA42 aircraft (such platforms based on DA42 are widely used all over the world). As it was already reported, in 2016 the Russian FSB purchased two DA42M NG aircraft from the UZGA with additional equipment for use in reconnaissance variant "for provision of state needs". Now the interest to such complexes on the basis of DA42 NG is shown by the Russian Defense Ministry. It should be noted that such aircraft are widely used

ROSTOV-ON-DON, January 12. /TASS/. Astafyev also said that for three days 40 crews of the Su-30SM and Su-27 fighter aircraft and Su-34 bombers of the mixed air force and air defense unit would practice covering bombers during bomb dropping (exercises) and fighter aircraft would perform aerobatic maneuvers.

    Is logical.
A new Air Army of VVS i PVO is going to be raised in the Pacific area (Kamchatka, Sakhalin and Kuril islands) , and now there are only a base in Yelizovo with only a squadron of MiG-31 , other of Il-38 and other of Helicopters , so more units are going to be necesary

Burevestnik airbase at Iturup island already has a helicopter detachment with Mi-8AMTSh , subordinated to the helicopter regiment of Khabarovsk
    https://yandex.com/maps/11446/kurilsk/?ll=147.628359%2C44.920456&z=17&l=sat%2Cskl
However there is a new civil airport in Iturup , and probably the units will be based at this new airport (Yasny)
    https://yandex.com/maps/?ll=148.015456%2C45.288730&z=12&l=sat%2Cskl

Is very probable that at this new airbase and at the airbase of Dolisnk-Sokol at Sakhalin island (in service but empty of units), new units will be formed in next years
In the past in both airbases there were regiments of MiG-23 until 1993 (Burevestnik) and MiG-31 untill 1997 (Dolinsk-Sokol)

For the new Air Army are necesary at least two figther regiments, so is probable the MiG-31 squadron will be upgraded to regiment once receive modernized MiG-31BM, and later other Su-30SM regimient will be raised for the Pacific Fleet

    MOSCOW, February 1 (Itar-Tass) - RIA Novosti.

The Iturup airfield was included in the section "Sakhalin Region" of the list of airfields of joint basing from 2007, the document says.

Now the machine gun and artillery division of the Eastern Military District is deployed on the Kuril Islands. On Iturup is located the coastal missile complex "Bastion", on Kunashir - the complex "Ball".
