The new fast breeder reactors the Russians are working on will consume waste from other reactors and will create more fuel than it burns, so in effect it will become totally renewable.

maybe a 1on1 replacement basis . there are enough export projects abroad.

The reactor design means depleted Uranium can be stored around the fissile pile of the breeder reactor to enrich it to make it into fuel again... so instead of firing it down MBT tank guns you can send it back to the reactors it came from and reuse it as fuel.... or enrich it to a higher level and use it for weapons grade material to make lots of nuke bombs very quickly...

Russia has enough uranium for domestic, foreign NPPs for 100 years - Rosatom

MOSCOW, August 09, 13:54 /ITAR-TASS/. Russia has enough uranium to supply for next 100 years domestic and foreign nuclear projects, Russia’s national nuclear corporation, Rosatom, said on Saturday.

The corporation’s representative Sergei Novikov commented on Australia’s possible ban of supplies of uranium to Russia, by saying: “Russia is the world’s second largest producer of uranium. The raw materials from Russian and foreign deposits (including those in Kazakhstan) will be sufficient for supplies to Rosatom’s both domestic and foreign projects for next 100 years.”

Australia’s government considers banning uranium supplies to Russia as another extension of the sanctions, the country’s Finance Minister Mattias Cormann and Foreign Minister Julie Bishop.

Australia has the biggest deposits of uranium. In 2007, Russia and Australia signed an inter-governmental agreement on cooperation in peaceful use of nuclear energy, and in 2012 Russia received the first shipment of Australian uranium.

This may not be the right place to ask this, but..... Does anyone know anything on Russian LFTR development? I know China and Japan are developing them, but I haven't found anything on Russia. - This surprises me because Russia is a leader in nuclear technology and I expect that they would jump on the LFTR bandwagon. Thanks in advance!
