Guys, when was the last time airliner was taken out by terrorists (not mafia or cartels) with bomb planted on board in a luggage? Haven't heard about it in decades. This means that all that airport security sucks just as much as before 9/11...

As far as I remember, 11 years ago, when Chechen terrorists blew up a Tu-134 and a Tu-154 in the same day in 2004, some days before taking the Beslan school. Two passengers were suicide Chechen women who boarded the planes with their luggage carrying the bombs.

So polite, the man of steel. The last sentence should send a chill down someone's spine. From Fortrus

Our aviation should not simply continue military operations in Syria, but enhance them so as to make it clear to the criminals that vengeance is inevitable.

I would like to ask the Defence Ministry and the General Staff to make their proposals. I will check the progress of this work.

I would like the Russian Foreign Ministry to turn to all our partners. We rely on all our friends in these efforts, including our search for and punishment of the perpetrators.

We will act in compliance with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, which envisages the right of a state to self-defence.

Whoever tries to help the perpetrators ought to know that they would bear full responsibility for any attempts to harbour them.

I would like all our special services to focus on this work.

"15 people killed, 10 others in intensive care after Mi-8 helicopter crash in East Siberia

KRASNOYARSK, November 26. /TASS/. According to the latest data, fifteen people have been killed and 10 others are in intensive care after the Mi-8 helicopter crashed in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, in Eastern Siberia, a senior aide to the local transport prosecutor has said. "At the moment, 15 people have been killed and 10 people are in intensive care, one is being retrieved from the destroyed fuselage of the helicopter," Oksana Gorbunova told TASS.

It was earlier reported that twelve people were believed to be dead after the crash. The helicopter was carrying 25 people, including 22 passengers and three crew members. "The helicopter has fallen in the Yenisei [river] and is lying on the ice. People are being evacuated," local police told TASS. The helicopter was en route from Igarka to an oil production facility in Krasny Selkub. The emergencies ministry said the helicopter made a hard landing in a difficult access area some 2 kilometers from the airport of Igarka and its fuselage was destroyed without catching fire."

Oil spill from grounded Russian tanker contaminates 3,500 meters of coastline

The Nadezhda oil tanker ran aground near the port city of Nevelsk on Sakhalin Island in Russia's Far East on Saturday

YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, November 30. /TASS/. Some 3,500 meters of coastal territory in the Russian Far East have been contaminated by oil spill from the grounded Russian tanker, the press service of the regional emergencies ministry said on Monday.

The Nadezhda oil tanker ran aground near the port city of Nevelsk on Sakhalin Island in Russia's Far East on Saturday. The vessel, with eight people onboard, carrying 786 tons of fuel oil was some 150 meters off the shore.

"The contamination of the coastline by oil products has been found on the territory of 3,500 meters," the ministry said in a statement.

Rescuers have disposed around 105 cubic meters of contaminated sand. The effort to deal with the consequences of the incident is expected to take at least two weeks.

Sounds like a small coastal tanker. At least by the description it was refined fuel oil rather than crude. Its a lot easier to clean up or let nature process it.

"A huge blaze has erupted in a five-storied building on the grounds of a machinery plant in northwest Moscow, producing flames rising into sky. The fire engulfed the area of some 15,000 square meters, Russian Emergencies Ministry said. According to data issued by a mobile chemical laboratory that is also present at the scene, the dangerous emissions’ concentration around the fire zone has stayed within normal range so far.

Witnesses reported the fire to the emergency services at 20:40 local time (17:40 GMT) with the first fire teams arriving at the scene five minutes later, Izvestia daily reports. The blaze has soon spread to another two nearby five-story buildings. The firefighters have raised the complexity rating of the blaze several times and it has been eventually assigned the fourth rating out of five possible. Twenty-nine fire teams consisting of almost 100 firefighters are now combating the blaze."

A collapse caused by a suspected brittle rock burst in Vorkuta, Russia, has reportedly left up to 90 coal miners trapped underground. Evacuation of the personnel is underway.
The incident occurred at the Severnaya coal mine in the northern Russian Komi Republic.

The mine is beyond the Arctic Circle and is difficult to reach. Russia’s Emergency Ministry confirmed to RT that the number of mining workers trapped underground could be as many as 90, yet the source in the ministry assured that the situation has been taken under control and the miners are being taken to the surface in small groups.

"A FlyDubai passenger Boeing en route from Dubai has crashed during landing in the southern Russian city of Rostov on Don, airport traffic control services told Russian media Sources in air-traffic control services said that the plane belongs to the FlyDubai airline. The plane apparently crashed in conditions of poor visibility a source in the regional emergency services told RIA. “According to preliminary data, the Boeing 737 crashed in poor visibility conditions, some 50-100 meters left of the runway. The fate of passengers and crew is being determined,” the source said. “The plane, according to preliminary data, crashed during the second approach,” the source told Interfax. "More than 100 passengers could have been on board. After the crash a strong fire started."

According to other sources, 55 people were on board, LiveNews reported. There were no immediate reports of any survivors. CCTV camera footage posted on YouTube claims to have captured the moment of the explosion as the aircraft impacted the ground. However, its authenticity could not be immediately verified."

Not even the airline is Russian, but well, it serves to reinforce how unsafe Russian planes and companies are - after all it happened in Russia, it has to be their fault.

    1. Boeing 738 does not exist
    2. Boeing is not Ru clearly
    3. Airline is not Ru
    4. Aircraft was not Ru owned either

Agreed with everything except the first point, 738 is a common shortened designation for the 737-800.

True, but its nowhere officially designated as such from what i am aware. Plus how many "common" people knows that fact? Between 3-5% of population probably.

Only civilians 44 Russians among the 55 passengers, eight Ukrainians, two Indians and one Uzbek. Four children were among the dead rest it belonged to Dubai and Boeing. Russian civilians dying quite frequently due to air accidents. No . RIP

    It is indeed sad.

But it decended pretty steep, so I dunno what really happened as everyone is blaming the bad weather.
