"BELGRADE, Serbia – Hundreds of pro-Russian Serb nationalists have held a protest against government's deal that forges closer ties with NATO. The protesters on Saturday in downtown Belgrade chanted slogans against the Western military alliance, Serbia's leaders and carried portraits of Russian President Vladimir Putin while waving Russian flags.

Serbia has historic ties with Slavic ally Russia but was never part of the Soviet bloc and wants to join the European Union. The right-wing nationalists want Serbia never to be part of NATO, which bombed the country in 1999 over its former regime's bloody crackdown against Kosovo Albanian separatists. The Kremlin and its media outlets in the Balkan country have launched an anti-Western campaign, including denouncing a recent government agreement with NATO to allow its troops patrolling Kosovo unhindered passage through Serbia."

"An airplane carrying the remains of Serbian citizens Sladjana Stankovic and Jovica Stepic landed at Belgrade's Nikola Tesla Airport at 19:25 CET on Tuesday. Stankovic and Stepic were employees of the Serbian embassy in Tripoli, Libya. The bodies were first flown from Libya to Istanbul aboard a Maltese airplane.

State broadcaster RTS is reporting that the autopsy documents issued by Libyan authorities do not list the cause of death, but rather enumerate and describe the injuries sustained by the victims. New autopsies will be performed in Belgrade. Stankovic and Stepic were kidnapped from a convoy of diplomatic vehicles in Sabratha, Libya, last November, and were held hostage until February 19, when they died during an air strike carried out by the United States, targeting an Islamic State site near the town. Earlier in the day, Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic announced that the aircraft transporting the bodies would be touching down in Belgrade in the evening, and pointed out to "the enormous efforts that have been made for the plane to take off from Tripoli."

"Our company did not get permission for overflight. All day we worked on it, the Libyan government was offering its plane, we wanted to send ours, we were not allowed neither," Dacic has been quoted as saying by Tanjug. He "added that only during the night permission was received to engage a plane to transfer the bodies to Istanbul, from where they will be delivered to Serbia on a regular flight to Belgrade." Dacic also said that "those who abducted and killed them" are guilty for the deaths of Stankovic and Stepic.

In reference to the November kidnapping, the minister said that "our diplomats had no permission to leave Tripoli, procedures were not respected." But he spoke against the introduction of "red herrings" and rejected the claims that "arms trade" was taking place. "They certainly did not trade in arms," Dacic stressed. "If procedures had been followed, it certainly would not have come to this," he added, noting that a working group and state organs would "determine all the circumstances." Dacic also said that Serbia is seeking an investigation into whether the U.S. knew that the Serbian nationals were at the site targeted by the air strike. "The Americans say that they did not know, but give us the evidence - our services say that they had informed them," Dacic said, adding, "obviously a mistake was made."

Speaking about the two killed embassy staffers, Dacic said: "They would be alive if they had not been killed in the air strike." Dacic also announced that Serbia's ambassador in Tripoli will be "withdrawn" and added that the possible closure of the embassies in Syria and Tunisia should also be "seriously considered - bearing in mind a lot of are people are there, and there are also economic interests."

Serbian President Tomislav Nikolić ordered full alert of armed forces, for start 4th land forces brigade from Vranje, 119th mixed helicopter brigade and 98th air force brigade from Ladjevci airfield. This has been done due to growing issues with immigrants on borders with Macedonia, Kosovo and Croatia. Units on alert are supposed to aid Police in roles of protecting population, state and property from all external threats.

As you said yourself "Convenient deaths". Ah, why... because Croatians were singing Danke Deutschland while Serbs kept middle finger pointed at Germany and US.

Hague international court is useless, they couldnt prove anything basically, they would just file the prosecution, spend few months in court room and put every Serbian in prison for how much they were pleased.

If you look at the legal terms of reference for the tribunal proceedings, they were clearly setup as show trials. The prosecutors had unlimited state-provided legal funding to do their work. The defendents had none. They had to rely on their own funding. The prosecution was also allowed to use 3rd party anecdotal evidence which was treated as unchallengeable by the defendent. The potential for misuse is blatantly obvious. The defence team was not provided with appropriate information from the prosecution side. Etc, etc, etc.

...But there is a silver lining in all this, because the African Union (especially South Africa) is threatening to cut all ties with the Euro-Kangeroo court. If the AU manages to completely part ways with them, then it won't be too long before most of Eurasia, and potentially South America follows in the AU footsteps. This will thoroughly discredit them and make it exponentially more difficult to get away with what they've been doing to ethnic Serbian leaders.

"Serbia's authorities are investigating reports that a cargo package bound for the US containing two missiles with explosive warheads was found on a passenger flight from Lebanon to Serbia. N1 television said the package with two guided armor-piercing missiles was discovered Saturday by a sniffer dog after an Air Serbia flight from Beirut landed at Belgrade airport.

Serbian media say documents listed the final destination for the AGM-114 Hellfire missiles as Portland, Oregon. The American-made projectiles can be fired from air, sea or ground platforms. N1 reported Sunday that Air Serbia is helping in the investigation. The Serbian flag carrier says "security and safety are the main priorities for Air Serbia."

"Both helicopters are ready for delivery, which is scheduled for April 2016. Serbia will get modern and reliable modification of world-known Mi-8 transport helicopter", the source said. According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute`s (SIPRI) arms transfers database, Serbia is to get both helicopters in 2016. The related contract is valued at USD25 million. Military utility transport helicopter, powered by two Klimov TV3-117VM turboshaft engines and equipped with a loading ramp instead of the clam-shell doors, an additional door and a new "dolphin nose". CNN on Twitter: "BREAKING: "Butcher of Bosnia" Radovan Karadzic has been sentenced to 40 years in prison"

"Radovan Karadzic, former leader of the breakaway Serb Republic in Bosnia, is criminally responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity for attacks on civilians in Sarajevo during the Bosnian conflict, the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia found Thursday. Tens of thousands of Serbian patriots on belgrade streets. The SRS has organized a huge demonstration against the traitorous government. Lots of former fighters from the RSK, RS, Kosovo war and many well-known faces from the cossack scene from the Donbass with it. A lot of young people with this, there is still hope in serbia. Great event in Belgrade Serbia.

"Seselj been charged with nine counts, found not guilty

The Hague tribunal for former Yugoslavia found Serbian ex-Deputy Prime Minister Vojislav Seselj not guilty on all counts. He was accused of being complicit in crimes against humanity in Croatia and Bosnia committed by Serbian militias between 1991 and 1993. "With this acquittal on all nine counts of the indictment the arrest warrant issued by the appeals chamber is rendered moot," said Antonetti. "Vojislav Seselj is now a free man."

Seselj, who was leader of the nationalist Serbian Radical Party, stood accused of inciting and financing crimes against Croat, Muslim and other non-Serb populations committed by the Serbian militias from 1991 to 1993. Justice Jean-Claude Antonetti said the militias did not directly take orders from Seselj, even though the SRP took part in recruitment. The not guilty verdict for all nine counts was passed unanimously. The verdict was announced in absentia, as Seselj was reportedly medically unfit to travel to the Netherlands from a clinic in Serbia, where he is being treated for terminal cancer. Despite his illness, the 61-year-old nationalist leader remains engaged in Serbian politics. He is expected to give a media briefing later on Thursday.

Seselj surrendered to the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in February 2003 days after his indictment. He spent almost 12 years in custody before being released for medical reasons in November 2014. The prosecution was asking for a 28-year prison term for Seselj. The man defended himself and pleaded not guilty, but said he expected to be handed down a 25-year term. Last week, the ICTY sentenced former Serb leader Radovan Karadzic to 40 years in prison after finding him guilty on 10 charges out of 11, including two counts of genocide and five counts of crimes against humanity. The verdict sparked protests in Serbia and was criticized by Belgrade and Moscow, which said the tribunal was not a venue for justice but a biased instrument for settling scores."

Nice saying from Serbian FM. I hope he will truly do what he said.

    https://www.rt.com/news/338007-serbia-eu-nato-russia/

While Belgrade is interested in becoming part of the European Union, it would not do so if the cost would be hurting Serbia’s relations with Russia, Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said during a Moscow visit.

“We want to become part of the European Union since it would serve our interest. We are a country that geographically and politically is part of Europe. But it cannot be done at a cost of our good relations with the Russian Federation,” he said at a joint conference with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.

Dacic added that Serbia has no intention of joining NATO, an organization that bombed the former Yugoslavia during the Balkan Wars. Serbia is still coping with the consequences of that military action, the minister said.

Belgrade would not engage closer with NATO for the sake of the Serbian people, not Russia,” the Serbian official stressed. “Most Serbian citizens stand against becoming a member of the alliance.”

Naturally that he said that, he is in visit to Moscow for the love of God Very Happy Serbian gov/govs in last 15 years had one exclusive goal of joining EU and no matter what are the requests and obstacles they will do so in the end. If God damn thing does not desintegrate itself before we join somewhere in late 2020s...if ever.

Also its known that it goes like this: NATO membership ----> EU membership
