It really looks like Turkey is doing the opposite of punching above its weight class in Syria. Gotta be emboldening its foes.

Perhaps a good thing. It either sedates Erdogan and the ruling party or makes them more prone to brash responses. Since the main topic that ails them is the Kurds, not necessarily the rebel front/Assad/Russia then we can expect only "positive" outcomes - in my opinion. Anything that makes Turkey clash with the U.S in the Kurd arena is good not only for Syria at large but for Russia and Iran. NATO allies with different strategic goals going at it - dream come true. The problem is that the "skirmishes" (if you can even call them that) are so low intensity it's depressing. That's how much the Turks respect their master.

This would be a lovely outcome by the way:

    https://komnews.org/ypj-spox-will-withdraw-raqqa-us-doesnt-show-concrete-reaction-turkey-airstrikes/

“The is unacceptable in international law. If the USA or coalition or the US [State Dept.] spokesperson can only say, ‘We are concerned or we are unhappy’ [about Turkey’s airstrikes] then we will not accept this. If this is the reaction, we do not accept it. It means they accept what was done to us,”

Sucks for the Kurds being sacrificial lambs of Turkish bombs but, at least in a general context it will completely disrupt american plans of slicing and dicing and it will reshuffle the cards if you will.

The Turks need to act decisively however; otherwise the U.S will merely reinforce the Kurds with troops spread out and undercut Turkish ability to operate - creating a shield of sorts. A slim chance still exists for the Turks to act, provided they're ready to bear the full consequences of disobeying their master. Information warfare would be the least of their worries of what comes next...economic warfare/terrorism.

Not to downplay Syria army gains in Homs and around palmyra, but any Jordanian/NATO mercenaries invasion of 10,000 to 20,000 terrorist can  reverse all their gains in 24 hours.
Don't forget how quickly Syrian army lost palmyra after capturing it. They are not properly
Armed by Russia to counter waves of suicide carbombers is armored very fast moving cars.

So unless IRAN or Russia deploys troops in the ground in big numbers up to 50,000 at least
to reinforce all battle zones in all Syria ,the war will not end. and hundreds of T-90 or at least
T-72b3  tanks a must too. attack drones also could be very useful , or at least fast mobile
self propelled artillery will be need in big numbers.

This is because Turkey,Jordan and Israel with jihadist fighters can invade Syria in mass
    scale attack.

    Israeli's at it again...relentless

Massive explosion near Damascus International Airport

Rebel sources say the strike hit an ammunition depot at Syria’s main airport.

A massive blast near Damascus International Airport early on Thursday was likely caused by an Israeli air strike said Lebanon’s al-Manar, a television channel affiliated with the Syrian government ally Hezbollah.

A spokeswoman for the Israeli military, asked if Israel had been involved in carrying out air strikes targeting Damascus airport, said: “We can’t comment on such reports.”

Two senior rebel sources operating in the Damascus area cited their monitors in the eastern outskirts of the capital where the airport is located as saying that five strikes had hit an ammunition depot used by Iran-backed militias.

Putin and Netanyahu are cahoots to destroy Syria. The Syria war was about to end in 2015 with the collapse of Assad. It is Putin who prolongs the war to kill Syrians at the behest of Netanyahu.

There are no RuAF air defences that far south so they are not ineffective as you put it. Also these seem to be ground or launched outside Syria air missiles.

Russia refuses to deliver MiG-29M2 Syria paid for? Why? They pose a danger to Israeli planes. Don't matter. Once Iran's Bavar SAMs ready, Israeli planes fall out of the sky with or without Russian permissions. Go suck on that, Russians AKA Israel lovers.

Laughing This is a perversely optimistic view of the balance of forces in the region. Israel, unfortunately, is now totally dominant militarily. Even if, or when, the current internal messes in Syria and Iraq are cleaned up, it'll take a long hard effort to restore something like the balance of forces of '73.

It seems that back in February no fly zones in Syria/Iraq were quietly added to some drone updates.

How is this Russia's problem? Even Russian MoD says it was Hezbollah fuel dump (and why does Hezbollah have separate facilities anyway?)

Iran is playing dumb again and tries to pull random shady crap under the radar instead of being useful for a change.

Besides, nobody was stopping Syria from buying AA systems on time before the war.

No, Israel is not dominant in the region. the attack to Lebanon in 2006 proved it.

This war is just a consequence of the lack of a dominant power in the region.

And depite these attacks to Syria, the side of Israel and the US is losing there. And the side of Russia and Iran is winning, is advancing.

Hez fought well, but it benefitted from the fact it wasn't a straight conventional fight in the field. In terms of conventional forces and the sophistication of such forces, Israel, sorry to say, is practically peerless and likely to remain that way for some time...

And depite these attacks to Syria, the side of Israel and the US is losing there. And the side of Russia and Iran is winning, is advancing.

There's been some encouraging news but basically Syria remains in an awful mess. Years of national disintegration, with no clear end in sight--what a nightmare! What a boon to Israel...The imbalance in forces was bad enough in 2010 when Syria was still intact. Now it's worse than pathetic...I'm not saying there's no hope. But boy, it'll probably take decades before Israel's enemies can confront it like they did in the good old days at the start of the '73 war.

Assuming Iran has plenty of money to spare for weapons and Russia and/or China are willing to sell, it'll help. This is probably fantasy but what if the present Saudi regime, discredited by setbacks in Syria and Yemen, finally falls and a new regime opens up its coffers to Israel's enemies? Or, what if some big Israeli outrage against the Palestinians gets the Saudis to change their attitude while attention is again focused on Israel--with the same result? Smile Probably wishful thinking but I still see considerable potential for future improvement.

Dont expect 'quick fix' in Syria, China tells EU

    https://euobserver.com/foreign/137680

The EU should not expect a "quick fix" in Syria, China's special envoy on the issue said on Tuesday (25 April), warning that "imposing a solution" from the outside would "not be workable".

Xie Xiaoyan was in Brussels for the second time in a month and met officials from the EU external service before heading to Moscow. He told a group of journalists that China, a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, had a "shared interest" with the EU to find a political solution in Syria.

He said that Beijing agreed with the EU on the need to have a cease-fire and a political discussion on "a transitional authority, democratic elections and a rewriting of a constitution".

While describing the talks with EU diplomats as a "useful, informative discussion", Xie admitted that China and the EU "may have different approaches as to how to resolve the crisis".

He said that all parties involved, including the EU, should be aware that they would "meet difficulties, twists and turns, ups and downs, flips-flops".

"It will not be a smooth sailing," he said, adding that the 6-year old conflict was "the most complicated issue in [his] diplomatic career", because "there are so many players".

Earlier this month, EU foreign affairs ministers said that "there can be no lasting peace in Syria under the current regime" of Bashar el Assad.

But for the Chinese envoy, "regime change will bring disaster" in Iraq and Libya, where Western powers took dictators Saddam Hussein and Muammar Gaddafi down.

"External forces have a role to play but there is a line beyond which it is meddling in internal affairs of another country," said Xie, insisting on a fundamental principle of China's diplomacy.

He said that the future of the Syrian regime and of its leader - whose name he didn't use - as well as what kind of government would replace it, are "in nature internal affairs of Syria".

"It's not our job to make a pre-judgement, it's not our duty to decide the future of that particular person," he added.

"Don't think we are more clever than the Syrian people himself," he insisted.

He said that China "strongly advocates" the Syrian regime and the opposition to "engage in serious discussions and make progress". He added that both sides "should abandon the illusion that they can win militarily".

The Chinese Syria envoy said that Beijing could talk with all parties involved in Syria, in the region and at a global level, and that it wanted to be "bridge the gaps" between all.

    Common interest

He also suggested that no solution would be found if China's position were not taken into account.

He said that if the UN Security Council, where Beijing holds veto power, was "split", it would "reduce its effectiveness".

He said that despite the US shifting positions under president Donald Trump, Washington would play "a very important if not a vital role". He also said that the influence of Russia, whose army is in Syria to support Assad, would "remain very strong".

He added that if the US and Russia could "continue their dialogue" it would be "a good omen for the region and for everybody".

For the EU, his message was that "consultation and coordination" are needed.

"We don't have to see eye to eye on all the major issues," he noted. "As long as we have one common interest, we can work together."
