I wonder what the point of using the Kalibir Missile? Is it a testing? Is it to sent a message?

More like a real combat test of a new frigate and a sub.

Probably is but could be a message to US, not to fuck around.

High value targets, testing, advertising, practice or using it before it reaches expiration date

Most likely all of the above

RUSSIAN WARPLANES DESTROYED THREE ISIS CONVOYS FLEEING RAQQA. 80 TERRORISTS KILLED – RUSSIAN MOD

    FILE IMAGE: RUSSIAN DEFENSE MINISTRY

Russian warplanes have destroyed three ISIS convoys fleeing Raqqa, the Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD) claimed in a statement on Thursday.

According to the MoD, the convoys were attempting to escape from Raqqah in the southern direction on Monday but this was prevented by the Russian Aerospace Forces.

As a result 80 ISIS terrorists were killed and 36 vehicles, 8 fuel trucks and 17 pick ups equipped with mortars and machine guns were destroyed.

“The Command of the Russian Air Force group in Syrian Arab Republic warned that any efforts of ISIS’ insurgents to leave Raqqa through the open corridor to Palmyra will be suppressed.

The first insurgents’ convoy which was heading from Raqqa to Palmyra Russian aviation eliminated on the 25th of May.

On the night of 29 30 May militants took another shot to advance to Palmyra.
Three mechanized convoys full with insurgents in the darkness left Raqqa and headed to the South on several routes.

Our intelligence revealed this movement in due time. The Russian Aerospace Forces stroke detected targets,” the statement reads.
The Russian ministary added that the US-led coalition and US-backed forces are maintaining an open corridor for terrorists south of the city of Raqqa.

“The city is cut off from the north. In the meantime, SDF stopped its advance and it resulted in leaving breaches in defense lines south off Raqqa. Using that, terrorists are freely crossing Euphrates and trying to redeploy their units to the Southern Syria.

The Command of the Russian Air Force group in Syrian Arab Republic will continue to take all necessary measured in order to prevent any ISIS’ forces to leave Raqqa and move to Homs and Hama provinces.“

Sweet, it's been over a year since we saw anything from Hmeim AB, I missed that place!  thumbsup

My amateur guess would be that they done some significant upgrade to that base, a lot of the stuff was clearly off limits to these reporters even though earlier they all had more open access. It shows when you compare it to older footage.

    Can't wait for part two.

That was last month. Hope they are still doing it, pouncing on any ISIS unit they see leaving Raqqa.

Russian officers deliver aid to civilians and disabled people in Latakia

BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:25 A.M.) – Soldiers from the Russian Centre for reconciliation of opposing sides in the Syrian Arab Republic delivered humanitarian aid to disabled people in Latakia, Saturday.

Russian servicemen distributed bags containing food and medicine to members of the Latakia Disabled People’s Society, giving out over 250 packages of rice, flour, sugar and canned meat, as well as a supply of essential medicines.

One of the officers described the humanitarian aid as “long-awaited”, adding that doctors from the Russian special medical unit had provided “qualified medical care” to civilians. Around 50 people received medical assistance on location.

Fairly predictable to see some 2S9 in Syria (from the Russian Security Forces):

Has Russia given the SAA thermobaric Kornets and Metys-M2s? They're cheap and blow up rats much better than RPGs so its completely logical to give them that.

They probably have them but standard RPG is more than enough for SAA.

What do enemies have that would require anything bigger?

SAA is already oversupplied, they need to use what they have before getting more.

Thermobaric ATGMs outrange heavy MGs on rat technicals, autocannon emplacements and AMR sniper fire while RPGs don't.

Very interesting about the land warfare of the Syrian Armed Forces:

    http://www.russiadefence.net/t4461p50-syrian-arab-army-saa#196708
    http://bmpd.livejournal.com/2665826.html

Surely most of this material is not of Syrian origin. Surely the Russian ships and transport aircrafts have been feeding this process.
