Russia already has T-64BM bulat Copyright of Foreign Military technology - Page 2 Icon_biggrin, i wish russia could pick up most tanks and learn from them

What makes you think Russia does not acquire foreign tank technology to inspect and learn from?

Is most of the actually "armor" on the T-14 located on/in the crew capsule, or more towards the front like most of the MBT's today? I've seen reports claiming most of the armor is in the capsule, but pictures make it look like the outer-armor is fairly thick itself.

The crew capsule contains no armour... the capsule contains the crew and their controls and screens and seats etc. the crew capsule is armoured... the heaviest armour on the vehicle is to protect the capsule and therefore also the crew.

US have stolen so many T-80U and T-72B, even probably all T-64 models and T-80B... I think it's time for revenge, i hope someday russia will stole leopard 2 and M1 abrams, and also a chinese tank. They already have the T-64BM, but, that's nothing new for Russia... a T-64B with T-80U electronics... but, maybe the era Nozh was interestin to analyse.

Russia could do something with greece to obtain a Leo2A6Hel, Russia, greece... brothers... and... Greece needs money Very Happy

Russia could obtain some M1 arbrams from egypt or iraq, if not already done... Too bad it's not a full modern US army standard.
the only technology that the Russians would want to copy from the best Western tanks is their C4ISR system. the armor and anti-tank weapons of the other side is only necessary to test and validate their own.

No point in being aware of inferior technology...
The MoD might have an Egyptian or an Iraqi M1A1 stashed away somewhere just like that photo of the T-64BM. Wouldn't surprise me if they even had F-16s from the said countries.

There might be nothing to learn conceptually from the M1, but Russia's military could use the M1 for a variety of things. For example, Russia could use the tank to optimize the rounds that frontline tanks will carry.

there really is very little to "learn" from Iraqi or Egyptian M1s. Stuff that the Russian designers and military have been fully aware of for decades. Finding out information about the vaunted "M1A3" programme is probably where Russian interest lies.
And there are probably some working on finding more about the M1A3. I meant more that the Russian Military determines the most effective round be it APFSDS or HEAT or ATGM against M1 Abrams armor. So if ever needed, Russia could easily roll its armor across Europe or some other front.

And color me unsurprised if the US has long gotten their hands on a T-90 from some place like India.

Polish spy Marian Zacharski was known to steal two M1 tanks from transport to Turkey (this could be urban legend). Not only that he steal technical documentation of it (this is a fact)...
    It was in late 70s...

Obviously not;  in the US the technical requirements and the main CONOPs for the next generation airborne offensive vehicles ,capable to confront on equal term modern air space defense systems, follow  exactly this same pact.

Just over the ocean the works and R&D efforts on ULO vehicles has been widely demoted or even frozen in the latest years and theirs funds strongly concentrated just in hypersonic exoatmospheric projects in reason of the rapid emergence on the horizon (much earlier than what expected) of quantum processing units and radiophotonic systems.

For this second area it will be also necessary in the US a very very urgent impulse....in particular among some Institutes in the West Coast....to don't risk the total obsolescence not only under a mere technical basis, but also of the elements around which turn around the same doctrinal structure of USAF and US Navy.

So basically Russia's next gen fighter aircraft will be somewhat similar to the SR-72 now being developed by Lockheed Martin

Don't forget about the BOR-4 lifting body sub-scale vehicle developed to test thermal protection technologies for the Buran shuttle.

"Contact Zoo" of Soviet technology at the US Air Force Base Nellis

"Contact Zoo" of Soviet technology based at the US Air Force Nellis.

This is a research center that determines the capabilities and disadvantages of enemy weapons systems, focusing on aircraft, anti-aircraft systems and tanks. The task of the training center besides the theory is to provide American soldiers with practical knowledge. Because of the opportunity to learn the technique from the inside, whether it is the cockpit of an airplane or the place of charging in a tank, the center has the nickname "The Petting Zoo" ("Contact Zoo").

Officially, its existence was discovered in 1992, after the end of the Cold War, despite this the center continued to grow by purchasing equipment from the countries of the former USSR for further study.

MOSCOW, May 12. /TASS/. PSRL-1 multipurpose grenade launchers handed over by Washington to Kiev and tested by the Ukrainian national guard for the first time were copied from the Russian grenade launcher RPG-7, a source in the Russian defense industry told TASS on Saturday.

Yeah, they are just making it clear that they have nothing to do with the design so when they start blowing up after 200 launches that they wont get the blame.
