Russian-Chinese heavy helicopter will have take-off weight of 38 tons - Rogozin

Russia and China have reached an agreement in principle on a joint project to create a heavy transport helicopter, said Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin.

"For heavy helicopters moving normally. Treaty to the helicopter on 38 tons," - said to "Interfax-AVN" Rogozin.

According to him, it was decided that "Russia's contribution to the project will be material, our technical capabilities."

Previously CEO of the holding company "Helicopters of Russia" Alexander Mikheyev said "Interfax-AVN" that technical configuration of the Russian-Chinese heavy helicopter will be determined before the end of the year.

"Hopefully, this year we define the technical configuration of the helicopter and the status of the project," - said A.Miheev.

According to him, the Russian-Chinese heavy helicopter is planned to create on the basis of the technological platform of the heaviest in the world of the Mi-26, produced by "Rostvertol" (part of the holding company "Helicopters of Russia").

He noted that the new car will not be analogue or further development of Russian heavy Mi-26 helicopter. "This helicopter will be developed specifically for the Chinese market, to perform the missions that are formulated by various ministries and agencies in China. Primarily the Ministry of Emergency Situations," - said A.Miheev.

Russia starts the development of all-composite sixth-generation fighter

Russian scientists have already started development of sixth-generation fighter made of composites, CEO of Advanced Research Foundation, Andrei Grigoriev, said at Open Innovations Forum, RIA Novosti reports.

The testing of fifth-generation fighter is in progress in Russia; the deliveries of these vehicles to armed forces will be started in 2016. PAK FA (or T-50) is the Russian fifth-generation fighter fitted with brand new avionics suite and state-of-the-art radar with phased antenna array. The main contractor of the project is Sukhoi Holding Company (part of United Aircraft Corporation). Compared to fighters already operated by the air forces, T-50 has a number of unique features combining the functions of attack aircraft and fighter.

"Our goal is to create a technological advance for development of the sixth-generation fighter. Such projects are being considered. First of all, the projects are related to materials and engines. There is an interesting joint project with Design Bureau named after A.M. Lyulka for development of engines with a unique performance; it is being considered at the moment", — Grigoriev told the journalists.

Moreover, the foundation is considering projects for development of composites for the advanced fighter and may choose one project in the near-term. "First of all this refers to monitoring the condition of the material. This is a key factor for the composites", — he added.

Experts told RIA Novosti earlier that the leading EU countries would not develop fifth-generation fighters; they will move straight to the sixth-generation UAVs.

The Advanced Research Foundation was established in 2012. Its main goal is to support the scientific research in order to strengthen the defense capabilities of our country.

Ilyushin Company plans to start the development of next-generation transport aircraft dubbed Ermak in 2016, Interfax-AVN reports.

"In 2016 we are going to start the development of a family of heavy transport aircraft with a payload of 80 tons and more. These are wide-body aircraft. The next-generation transport aircraft was dubbed Ermak. It is planned to start the airliner’s mass production in 2024", - CEO of Ilyushin Company, Sergey Sergeev, said.

He noted that Ilyushin Company is facing a great challenge. The whole transport aircraft fleet must be replaced: light, medium, heavy and long-range heavy aircraft segments. "We hope to start the development of a military-transport aircraft with a payload of under 20 tons as soon as possible (the aircraft will replace An-12 vehicles) in the network of MTA project, which is being implemented by Russia and India", - S.Sergeev added.

BrahMos’ new CEO is gung-ho about the BRAHMOS supersonic cruise missile

    Post excerpts from the article

So enter, BRAHMOS-M. “BRAHMOS-M will be a new design. A compact engine with better energy propellant which will not compromise on 300 km range; lighter weight with less diameter; speed of 3.3 Mach; and better packaging and routing of pipes with computer aided design and latest electronics.” To ascertain the feasibility of BRAHMOS-M, three steps have been initiated. One, HAL has done some preliminary studies. Two, DRDO has conducted design studies which will be shared with Russian NPOM partner. And three, Russia is willing to develop the new propulsion system keeping BrahMos aerospace in the loop. This is not all.

“The seeker for BRAHMOS-M will have sufficient redundancies to include anti-radiation, Radio Frequency and Imaging Infra-Red capabilities. The guidance in addition to the present G3 combination will also come from indigenous satellite navigation constellation — IRNSS — which will have a total of seven satellites of which three have been placed in space.”

The BRAHMOS-M with a weight of 1.4 tonne for the air force version and 1.6 tonne for the navy version will be a breakthrough. “We expect five BRAHMOS-M to be carried by Su-30 (two each on the wings and one on the belly), and two each missile with the Mig-29K and the fifth generation fighter aircraft being co-developed with Russia.” Moreover, in addition to the steep-dive capability with Block-III LACM, there will be Block–IV LACM with a “surround capability, to hit hidden targets laterally from the side of mountains.” BrahMos’s own research team at Hyderabad is already working on Block-IV LACM. Thus, “BRAHMOS-M is ready to be moved from the drawing board to real work once the government gives the green light.”

To stay ahead into this century, BrahMos envisages a hypersonic engine to replace the present supersonic. “It is envisaged to provide speed of Mach 5. It will follow different aerodynamic laws; and have different propulsion, materials, electronics, data links and suppliers,” says Mishra adding that, “We (BrahMos and DRDO) are already working on the engine and hope to test it in five years.”

What about exports, was the parting question. Sudhir Mishra replied with confidence: “India and Russia as equal partners have cleared six to seven friendly countries for BrahMos exports. It is up to the Modi government to take the call. BrahMos Aero

Ironically the SS-N-2 was the first Soviet anti ship missile with IR and radar guidance in one missile, though their export models had one or the other guidance method.

The IR guidance option has been used by India AFAIK to attack large oil storage tanks in Pakistan after dark, where the sun had heated the tanks during the day and they remained warm enough after dark to get a lock with these missiles.

Since then the SS-N-14 is another anti ship/anti sub system that has dual guidance options, and of course the Kh-22M was known to have a combined active radar homing/passive anti radiation homing seeker head.

Combining these options just makes the weapon more flexible and resistant to decoys or jamming.

    Interesting...

KRET will create a new generation of avionics systems on the basis of radio-photoniks

November 11, AEX.ru - Concern "Radio-electronic technology" (KRET) Rostec State Corporation and the Foundation for Advanced Studies (DRF) signed an agreement on the implementation of promising scientific and technological project "Development of an active phased array based radiofotoniki" ("ROFAR"). The project includes the creation of a new specialized laboratory and the development of universal technology, which will be the basis for radar and electronic warfare systems of the new generation. Investment in the project will amount to 680 million rubles, the press service of KRET.

    ....

"Nanophotonics - a promising research area, which soon will define the vector of development of dual-use technology in the developed world - said General Director Nikolai Kolesov KRET. - Latest technology will allow us to create effective 2020 and advanced receiver-transmitters, radar systems, electronic intelligence and electronic countermeasures, which will replace the existing line. "

    ....

"One of the main" ROFAR "will be the development and manufacture of a new generation of AESA, in which the basic elements must be created using the principles radifotoniki. They will reduce the weight of the equipment 1.5-3 times increase in 2-3 times its reliability and efficiency, as well as dozens of times to increase the scanning speed and resolution. If successful, the technology will open up new possibilities for improving the characteristics of a "smart skin" used on Russian helicopters and aircraft of the latest generation. The system internals ROFAR over the entire area of the fuselage of the aircraft ( Sun) will allow its crew to receive at any time a coherent radar picture within a radius of 360 degrees, provide job antenna systems in a mode of active and passive radar, posing all kinds of interference and immunity covert data transmission connection to the land and other aircraft, and state identification etc. "- told in KRET.
