An air  squadron of the Central Military District will be formed in Tuva in the spring of 2019

The aviation squadron, part of the transport regiment of the Central Military District, will be formed before March 1 at the airfield in Kyzyl (Tuva).

The squadron will include Terminator Mi-8 AMTSh-V helicopters and An-26 transport aircraft. The pilots will carry out tasks for transporting troops of the motorized rifle brigade to perform combat training missions in remote mountainous areas, and will also be used in various tactical exercises from company to brigade level.[/b]

This is a squadron that will be subordinated to 32º OTSAP of Yaketerinburg (ex-390º OSAP)

The regiment has its main base at the Kotlsovo airport in Yekaterinburg
The composition is:
-Squadron of An-12 (x8)
-Squadron of An-26 (x8)
-Squadron with:  Tu-154 (x1) , Tu-134 (x3) , L-410 (x2) , Mi-8MTSh (x4). Also 2 An-148 for replace Tu-134 (in theory)

Also have;
-Composite Squadron at Novosibirsk airport (previously 37º SAE) with: Tu-134 (x1), An-12 (x3), An-26 (x3), Mi-8AMTSh (x8)
-Search and Rescue Detachment in Bratsk (formerly 11º APSO) with An-26 (x3) and Mi-8MT (x3)

So now the number of squadrons increases to cover the entire width of the Central District.

Next to Ukraine: a military airfield will be built on the border of the Rostov region

Rostov-on-Don, November 5, 2018. DON24.RU. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation announced a tender for the purchase of navigation equipment for the construction of a military airfield in the Neklinovsky district of the Rostov region.

The corresponding notice is published on the official website of public procurement.

According to the documentation, the military intend to purchase radio equipment, navigation, landing, flight control, control and communication systems. In addition, the tender provides for the delivery of the training command center of the aviation unit of the military unit.

The total value of the contract is 100 million rubles.

It is planned to equip a military airfield in the area of the Morskoy Chulek farm, 70 km from the border with Ukraine.

A good place for the remaining MiG-29SMT from Kursk or better , in the future a regiment of MiG-35 , as in the South District  the former regiments of MiG-29 disbanded in 2009 have the aerodromes occupied by a regiment of Su-25 (Primorsko-Akhtarsk) and the 15 Army Aviation Brigade (Zernograd)

In the satellite images of last year and the present year, some Il-76 are not in the aerodromes, they are working. Is for that the high number of photos of Il-76 appeared in RP since the end of 2017

A new air transport regiment will be formed in the Western Military District

A new separate transport mixed aviation regiment of the Western Military District will be formed on the basis of a squadron of transport aviation stationed at the Levashovo military airfield near St. Petersburg.
The fleet of the new aviation unit will consist of the An-12, An-26, An-30, An-72, Tu-134, L-410 military transport aircraft, as well as Mi-8
The main task of the regiment will be aviation support of planned combat training activities of the Western Military District, as well as transportation of personnel, weapons and military equipment and military goods, including their delivery to remote areas.
In addition to the military airfield Levashovo, the infrastructure of the regiment will also include 5 airfields of various classes located in the Leningrad, Arkhangelsk and Vladimir regions.

At the end of 2013, the 33 regiment was formed on the basis of 17 OSAE (Separate mixed squadron) based in the aerodrome of Mirny (Cosmodrome of Plesetsk) in Arkhangelsk Oblast and the 138 OSAP based in Gromovo and Levashovo


All the airplanes were transfered to Levashovo, disbanding the squadron of Plesetsk , probably the better transport unit of VVS in that time
The regiment is probably one of the biggest unuts of VVS , with the size of a brigade , at least

The squadron of Mi-28 could be received in about 3 or 4 years.
Mi-28NM is expected in 112º OVP at Chita in 2020 and 2021, and probably the next will be Chernigovka (575 AvB) that has only 2 squadrons, one of Ka-52 and other of Mi-8AMTSh since about 2013, and cannot became to regimental organization until it receives more helicopters (319º OVP is the name of the helicopter  regiment of Chernigovka)

81º military transport aviation regiment revived

The 81st military transport aviation regiment was revived in Ivanovo. On An-22 aircraft, the pilots delivered cargo to all countries of the world from China to Peru, participated in the Arab-Israeli and Afghan war. On December 1, the day of the regiment's 50th anniversary, representatives of the top military leadership came to congratulate the veterans on their anniversary and the personnel on the beginning of the new academic year

The regiment transported forces and equipment during the Arab-Israeli war, transported humanitarian supplies to Ethiopia, participated in the Afghan war, and helped to eliminate the consequences of the earthquake in Armenia. The Ivanovo pilots flying on An-22 planes saved hundreds of lives and were repeatedly awarded orders and medals. The 81st regiment was disbanded in 1998.

Antey is the world's largest turbo-propeller transport aircraft. But the Ivanovo paratroopers have not been flying it for a long time. Now there is only one An-22 on the Severny, and this is a museum exhibit. "
There are new modern aircraft at the airport. IL-76 are designed for parachute and landing landing of large cargo and fuel. It was decided to give a new life to the regiment: on December 1, 22 years later, the Ministry of Defense revived the 81st air transport in Ivanovo. Vladislav Zaikovsky was appointed commander. THE FIRST UNMANNED DIVISION IN THE VTA (Military Transport Aviation) CREATED AT KOSMODROM Plessetsk

A mixed squadron of military transport aviation from An-26 aircraft, Mi-8 helicopters and Orlan unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) has been formed at the Plesetsk cosmodrome airfield, the Defense Ministry said.

"A mixed aviation squadron has been formed at the Plesetsk airfield. It includes An-26 aircraft, Mi-8 helicopters and a unit of unmanned aviation (Orlan drones)," the defense ministry reports.

The Ministry of Defense added that the UAV unit was for the first time included in the military transport aviation and "will carry out tasks to ensure launches of space rockets from the Plesetsk cosmodrome."

From the military cosmodrome Plesetsk, both space rockets and test launches of ballistic missiles are carried out. In particular, the second launch of the Angara heavy carrier rocket is planned from Plesetsk in the near future.

Earlier, the second test launch of the Angara-A5 heavy-class launch vehicle from the Plesetsk cosmodrome in the Arkhangelsk region was postponed from November 28 for several days for technical reasons

The command of military transport aviation completed the formation of two new aviation units for the new academic year.

Today, the formed regiment, which included Il-76md aircraft, has begun to perform tasks as intended. Its base is determined by the Ivanovo-Severny airfield.

The ceremonial events dedicated to the formation of the BTA aviation regiment were attended by the leadership of the military transport aviation, the personnel of the formed regiment and the Center for Combat Use and Retraining of Flight Personnel of the BTA, representatives of local self-government bodies, veteran organizations and the regional branch of the Youth Army.

“Today, here on Ivanovo land, we are opening a significant page in our history, the history of the Aerospace Forces and the Russian army. Military transport aviation has always been on a special account in our country. And now, when we are implementing large-scale rearmament plans, one of our key priorities, of course, is the development and improvement of the organizational and staff structure. The importance of military transport aviation will only grow, ”said Colonel Ivan Zolotko, Acting Deputy Commander of Military Transport Aviation, in his speech.

In addition, a mixed aviation squadron was formed at the Plesetsk airfield.

It consisted of An-26 aircraft, Mi-8 helicopters and an unmanned aviation unit (UAV "Orlan").

the 235th VTAP was created just three years ago today
In 2017 it received a squadron of Il-76MD, the second squadron is being equipped with Il-476. This airplanes were under training at Ivanovo in 2019

The 81st VTAP created today is not clear if it is part of the 610º TsBP i PLS (upgraded from squadron to regiment) or is a regiment under another formation (12th VTA Division)
This regiment is equipped now with a few Il-76MD and modernized Il-76MD-M. In the future the number will increase
Later it is likely that it will also receive a squadron of Il-476 to replace the older ones.

The 610º TsBP i PLS is now eqquiped with a dozen of older Il-76M.
Also at Ivanovo were based at least a couple of Il-76MD , one or two Il-76MD-M and at least the first Il-476
As you can see in the video above, the Il-76;D-M and Il-76MD heve been transferred to new 81º VTAP

For the moment (excluding the first airplane under previous contract) there are 27 Il-476 contracted for tree squadrons ( 235 VTAP, 81 VTAP and other regiment)
Also there are 41 Il-76MD-M contracted , but only tree included the prototype have been delivered

In my accounts I found the next IL-76 airplanes in the ranks of VKS:

In total are 146 airplanes.

No, the Plestesk squadron (17º OSAE) was disbanded by 2013 and the airplanes An-12, An-26 an An-72 were trasnferred to Levashovo (33º OTSAP)
Plesetsk becomes an auxiliary airfieeld with an aviation comand of 33º OTSAP
Later was trasnferred to 7050º AvB of Naval Aviation (45º Air and Air Defence Army of North Fleet) that becomes 403º Mixed Regiment

Now is a composite squadron of VTA receiving other airplanes An-26, helicopters Mi-8  and UAV .

Lieutenant Colonel Vladislav Zaikovsky was appointed commander of the new 81st military transport aviation regiment. The 610th Center for Combat Use and Retraining of Flight Personnel of Military Transport Aviation named after Air Marshal NS Skripko is also deployed at the Ivanovo-Severny airfield.

The 81st military transport aviation regiment was first formed as part of the USSR Air Force in 1970 as a regiment on heavy military transport aircraft An-22 "Antey", also based at the Ivanovo-Severnoye airfield. In 1998 the regiment was disbanded.

As already reported by our blog, to date, on the technical base of PJSC "Aviation Complex im. S.V. Each VTAP regiment has or should have two squadrons of Il-76 and one of An-2
In the case of 566º VTAP, with An-124,  the An-2 squadron is based at Tula (former 110 OVTAE of VDV forces)

The 610º TsBP i PLS has one dozen of Il-76M in the ranks.
At Ivanovo also had a couple of Il-76MD and one or two Il-76MD-M, that now have been trasnderred to new 81º VTAP.
Also is probable that other Il-76MD have arrived to Ivanovo to join with 81º VTAP on 1 december, like happened with 235º VTAP on 1 devember 2017


If you look this satellite image of past year, you can see 5 Il-76MD (probably 5 Il-476 of 235º VTAP during training) in the south-west and the shorter 9 Il-76M of 610º TBP i PLS in the central area of the airbase:ALso there are two Il-76MD at the south-east

It is probable bmpd has a mistake with the number of airplanes of 81º VTAP , conting also Il-76M, or well there are more Il-76MD in the airbase today, just arrived to join with 81º VTAP

Anyway 81º VTAP with Il-76MD and Il-76MD-M belongs to 12º VTA Division, and 610º TsBP i PLS with Il-76M depends directly of Command of VTA

The composition of VTA today is:
- 117º , 196º , 334º and 708º VTAP: two squadrons of Il-76MD and one of An-2, total 18 IL-76MD and 12 An-2 each regiment
- 235º VTAP (in formation) squadron of Il-76MD, squadron of Il-476 and squadron of An-2, Total: 9 Il-76MD, 7 Il-476 and 12 An-2
- 81º VTAP: (in formation) squadron of Il.76MD, squadron of Il-76MD-M and squadron of 12 An-2. For the moment only known 2 Il-76MD and as much 2 Il-76MD-M
- 566º VTAP: squadron of An-124-100 and Il-76M (5 An-124 and 3 Il-76M), second squadron An-124 in reserve. Squadron of 12 An-2 at Tula
- 76º OVTAE: Ivanovo: An-22 , An-12, An-26
- 224º LO : 8 An-124 (at Sescha) and 16 Il-76MD (at the other VTAP airbases)
- 610º TsBPiPLS: 12 Il-76M
Also there squadrons of:
- An-26, An-72 and An-2 at Omsk part of 117º VTAP
- An-26, Mi-8 and An-2 at Ryazan , probably part of 196º VTAP
- An-26, Mi-8 and UAV at Plesetsk apparently part of 81º VTAP

out VTA also there are at least 6 Il-76MD at Chklovsky (8º ADON-223 LO), 2 Il-76MD-M at LII Zukovsky, and 2 Il-76M at Voronezh-VUNTs

In total should have 12 squadrons Il-76MD / MD-M / MD-90A (108 airplanes) and also other 24 between the other units, total 132 MD´s. Also 17 "short" Il-76M
For the moment I located 130 "long" MD´s (taking into account that 2 Il-476s are still lacking to complete the 235th VTAP squadron) and also 17 "short" M´s
