Russia-French project of light armoured vehicle frozen

MOSCOW, July 25. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia-France joint project of a Russian-built all-terrain vehicle ASTAIS-VBL has been put on ice on the “known political situation” and sanctions against Russia, executive director of the Russian special and military equipment company ASTAIS Vladimir Babaev.

The vehicle will not be presented at the Oboronexpo-2014 exhibition in the Moscow Region, he told ITAR-TASS.

Localization of production in the Russian city Naberezhnye Chelny was earlier reported to start in 2014. At the first stage, Russia would provide body and dashboard, whereas France planned to supply engines, transmission and some other chassis components.

Five to ten vehicles were planned to be produced in the second and third quarters.

France to come under European sanctions if it breaks Mistral deal with Russia
A letter of understanding with France has not become a contract, Babaev said declining to give his evaluation of the market for ASTAIS in Russia but saying the Ministry of Defense and others expressed interest.

Light amphibious wheeled ASTAIS-VBL is not the first Russian-French project suspended this year. In spring, Renault Trucks Defense was reported to have frozen development of the infantry combat vehicle Atom in cooperation with Burevestnik, subsidiary of the now sanctioned Russian company Uralvagonzavod. Atom’s prototype was first presented last autumn.

Vehicles of ASTAIS class are not produced in Russia now. ASTAIS-VBL developed by Renault Trucks Defense subsidiary Panhard is multifunctional, air transportable and can carry up to 300 kilogrammes of weapons, such as machine guns and air defence systems, without loss of buyoancy. The armoured vehicle has STANAG 4569 level 1 ballistic protection.

Russia to Present Unique Communications System at High-Tech Exhibition

MOSCOW, August 1 (RIA Novosti) - Russian high-tech corporation Rostec has created a unique sixth-generation radio communication system called Chance, which it will present at the Russian Defense Ministry’s Innovation Day, the company’s press-service said in a statement on Friday.

According to the Rostec statement, the Chance communication system is part of the army’s automated communication and control systems. Chance was built, using software-defined radio technology, and can create a self-organizing, auto-restorable network with almost no involvement of an operator.

The communications system has received factory approval and in the near future is to be tested by troops.

The Chance system enables transmission of all types of messages, digital data and video information. Each operator has access to the Internet and the GLONASS and/or GPS navigation systems. The network’s radio stations are also able to eliminate noise interference.

The system consists of portable radio communication stations that can be installed in military vehicles to pass information from one operator to another.

According to the press statement, even if one radio station is destroyed, its data will be automatically picked up and saved by neighboring stations.

The Innovation Day international exhibition, organized by the Russian Defense Ministry, is to take place on August 4 - 5 near Moscow.

    Russia develops new mine-clearing systems

Russia's Stankomash has completed development of the engineering tank mine-sweeping system TMS-S.

The TMS-S is mounted on the front of Russian BMR-3M armoured demining vehicles, recognisable by their raised rear roofline, providing space for the two crew and three combat engineers.

The system features eight mine-clearing rollers installed on hinged arms, which cover the full width of the vehicle. A blade is mounted on either side to cut through command detonation wires.

Mounted above the rollers are two pole-type electro-magnetic attachments and a mine 'trawl' (known locally as a UTPBM), which is claimed to be able to neutralise mines activated by the acoustic, thermal and seismic signatures of the vehicle.

The combat training center has been canceled...look how many sacrifices, capitulations Russia has made, guys like Gorbachev and Yeltsin are looking like jackasses thinking that the powerful entity they destroyed (USSR) and ruined was worth it just to have pitiful and mediocre relations with the West! Yeltsin should have gotten the guillotine, and Gorbachev should still get it...the Cold War never ended, but just had a pause in events, and Russia is significantly worse off:

Rheinmetall deal with Russia: Gabriel's veto was matched with Chancellor

Economy Minister Gabriel has defended his veto against a 100 million-euro arms deal with Russia by Rheinmetall. He had for the backing of the Chancellor.

Berlin - Economy Minister Sigmar Gabriel (SPD) has in his own words the full backing of Prime Minister Angela Merkel (CDU) for the stop of the delivery of a combat training center in Russia. The decision was consistent with the Chancellor's Office, Gabriel said in Berlin on Monday.

For possible damages from the company Rheinmetall he did not comment. Currently, stood to his knowledge, no other projects where a delivery stop is also to be expected. Without naming details, he said there had already been other projects that have been withdrawn for export licenses.
Gabriel had the authorization given by the black and yellow previous government permission for the construction of a combat training center in March in response stopped the Crimean crisis provisionally .

Background of revocation members are now imposed by the EU sanctions against Russia for the escalation of the Ukraine crisis. Germany thus goes beyond the EU sanctions beyond. This provides, among other things, a moratorium on arms sales, already agreed transactions, however, are to be excluded from.

Actually Rheinmetall wanted to pass the-art combat training facility this year in the town of Mulino in the east of Moscow in the Russian army. In such an exercise centers each year, up to 30,000 soldiers are trained to simulation tools. The business has a magnitude of about one hundred million euros.

A Rheinmetall spokesman said on Monday: "We are in discussion with the federal government on this issue." An oral completion in March revocation of the government has already reached also in writing. Rheinmetall boss Armin Papperger had seen in March, no need to worry for his company. The Hundred-million contract was nearly executed and almost paid in full, he had said at the press conference.

From Milex: Belarus take on the Kornet-EM system, using their Shershen ATGM (with 5 km range) and applying it to a Tigr "Beast of Crimea" truck, pretty cool but surprisingly still a downgrade compared to them Kornet-EM version (for obvious reasons):

...It's a Neo-Con fear-mongering website, what do you expect? Neo-Con's are irrational solipsists by nature, the outside world doesn't exist outside their mind...or their mother's basements. Wink

Take for example their patently absurd support for Israel against Hamas, they can't seem to reconcile with the fact that the Israel Defense Force created Hamas, even if it comes from the mouths of former leaders of the IDF, even if it comes from a famous newspaper that comes from the Neo-Con sphere of influence (Wallstreet Journal is owned by Rupert Murdoch, and before he bought the newspaper the Wallstreet Journal militantly supported the WMD's in Iraq theory and the consequent invasion):

    http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB123275572295011847

Another example is their patently absurd support for the Iraq war and Afghanistan war, even though the respective govt's put in power such as Maliki's and Karzai's govt's were not only Pro-Russian and Pro-Putin, they were also Pro-Iranian, and not only just that but Karzai is on record saying he would side with Pakistan against the United States if they would ever go to war with each other lol1 :

...lol1 lol1 lol1 Ooops we spent trillions of Dollars to put pro-Iranian govt's in power, when we declared Iran as our enemy lol1 lol1 lol1...

New Russian Anti-Aircraft Module Capable of Locating 15 Targets Per Second

ZHUKOVSKY, MOSCOW REGION, August 14 (RIA Novosti) – A unique Russian GAZ Tigr chassis-mounted anti-aircraft command module, can simultaneously locate 15 targets per second, a representative for the Scientific-Industrial Enterprise Rubin told RIA Novosti on Thursday.

“The Defense Ministry has demanded to urgently create this vehicle. They have come up with the basic design directives. The hardware’s task is to provide covering fire for the units marching in the near zone of the contact with an adversary. The vehicle deploys for action within five minutes,” Rubin’s representative said.

He added that the vehicle has its own reconnaissance assets and is capable of autonomous work. Along with this, target assignment takes no longer than one second. The hardware can work at temperatures from minus 50 to 60 degrees Celsius (minus 58 to 32 degrees Fahrenheit).

“This is an independently developed prototype. We are currently in talks over its trials with the Defense Ministry, in the follow-up of which we will decide whether to launch a series line production. It [the module] is exhibited for the first time, and it has no analogues in Russia today,” the source said.

Previously, Russian troops armed with man-portable air defense systems have not had a command and target indication vehicle available, acting autonomously. The introduction of such hardware allows the troops to receive more precise target data.

“We are trying to stick to the policy of using purely Russian components, in the context of the latest sanctions introduced against our country,” added the enterprise’s officer.

Rubin’s representative stressed that the development was carried out in a timely manner, starting in mid-2013 and delivering a prototype in May 2014. The vehicle was presented to the Defense Ministry at a command post rehearsal at the 76th Guards Air Assault Division based in Pskov, receiving a few suggestions on improving its construction and capability.
