    As far i can see a hammer like in the pistol have shorten move and can be used to machineguns increasing rate of fire

    Rate of fire for a machine gun is not that critical and often higher rates of fire can be wasteful without being more lethal or effective.

    Yes indeed. Range would be the most important. The trend is now to make a short machinegun whit a longer barrel.
