Saudi Arabia demands Russia end Syria raids, criticizes Iran

DUBAI (Reuters) - Saudi Arabia, a leading foe of President Bashar al-Assad, demanded his ally Russia end its raids on Syria, saying the strikes had caused civilian casualties while failing to target the hardline Islamic State militants Moscow says it opposes.

In remarks at the United Nations in New York, a senior Saudi diplomat suggested both Russia and Assad's other main ally Iran could not claim to fight Islamic State "terrorism" at the same time as supporting the "terrorism" of the Syrian authorities.

Saudi ambassador Abdallah Al-Mouallimi expressed "profound concern regarding the military operations which Russian forces have carried out in Homs and Hama today, places where ISIS forces are not present. These attacks led to a number of innocent victims. We demand it stop immediately and not recur."

Russia has launched a series of air strikes in Syria for a second day.

The strikes reportedly targeted sites in the north-west held by the Army of Conquest rebel alliance, as well as areas in Homs and Hama provinces.

Russia said it had carried out eight strikes overnight, and that it had hit 12 Islamic State (IS) positions hit in 24 hours..

With all this extra mileage on transport fleet, Russia should put those Priboi & Lavina landing ship projects into high gear...

    Oooops

Information on casualties among civilians appeared in Western media before Russian arcraft left ground, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Thursday.

Media reports about civilians in Syria allegedly being killed by Russian airstrikes appeared before Russian aircraft even left the ground, President Vladimir Putin said Thursday.

"As for any information in the media on civilians suffering [from Russian airstrikes], we were ready for such information attacks. I draw your attention to the fact that the first reports on civilian casualties emerged before our planes even left the ground," Putin said at a meeting of the Russian Council for Civil Society and Human Rights.

Yahoo news: Russia says would consider any Iraqi request for air strikes against Islamic State

US air support is useless, they only help kurds. Currently Abadi welcomes Russian strikes and Russian officials are open to it.

Ah, so they are sending F-22's to where exactly? I guess to patrol in Iraq and Afghanistan but to Syria? I dont think US will actually do that as if the F-22 gets shot down, US cant do shit about it as they are illegaly in Syria to begin with. Added, the Russians are really going to be watching these things.

American are stupid, you don't need the F 22 to bomb Syria, Iraq or Afghanistan, they don't have high tech radars, so there is no point. Su 24 and Su 25 are good enough to do the job. The American are just  saying "give just attention, we are brining in the big bad f 22", well no one gives a fuck.

Also the west media is making up stories of how Russia is targeting civilians, all these are lies. Russia should say to west "We are going to open up cases against the west for the war crimes they have committed in Iraq and Afghanistan", see how they like that.

This is also very true, the Russians will be watching and if the F 22 enters Syrian air space, shoot one of them down and show the world, it is not invincible, it's just American lies.

Not necessarily, the bombed dropped could be a armor piercing/bunker buster, it's likely that what they hit was probably hidden catacombs.

Some claims that a KAB-2000 piercing bomb hit somewhere in the tunnel behind the ground. The white smoke are stuffs from inside the tunnel flushed outward the ground via the tunnel gates.

Another strike hit somewhere with a big tunnel gate, created big smoke.

So if these opinions are right, then the whole tunnel system - together with humans inside... RIP. Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

As shown on the ground and given the rather limited size of the explosion, those are 250/500 kg bombs. 2000 kg bombs would have ruined a lot of people's day. One can always hope.

OFAB250-270 and FAB500 were mostly used till this point judging by the videos.

They mostly used F22s in Syria and Iraq somewhat like ELINT and data gathering platform to coordinate the attacks of other jets, its not particulary well suited for ground strikes, but again there is nothing stopping them from using them as such as they really did. But that was not their main role there.

Curious then: what are Russias assets besides jets, if anything capable to detect and track aircrafts, are in Syria? If not, I assume they are using radar from aur defense systems and syrian military assets?

To add another question to yours, what assets do russia have there to recover any downed airmen should the worst happen? The nightmare scenario of seeing a russian pilot taken by those scumbags is a thought that everyone must have considered at some point, so i hope they have a plan for that sitiation.

My question is - Did Iran get its S300s delivered already ?

The article claims a lot of other things too but I am not sure.
