Served in the romanian army as a conscript back when it was mandatory. One year. Funny thing is after the end of it i was thinking how cool would it be to do it all over again, in fact i got a letter home conscripting me again (this being the "efficiency" of the local bureaucratic system mind you)! I had to refuse and show them my papers proving i've already been conscripted once unfortunately. Probably could take an AK apart even now if given the chance (not to mention using it and any derivatives). Very Happy

I served in VDV Tula 2008-2010 106th Guards Airborne Division, And then transferred to 76th division in Pskov 2011-2012.
Basically did all the hard training (which I hated) peeled potatoes(joke).  And then after training was over I was assigned to a assault company in Tula, Then they transferred other soldiers and me to other bases.  When I came out of service in 2012 I was happy but still to this date I miss the army atmosphere.

I served 4 years in the Bundeswehr, 3. Luftwaffenregiment, near Ulm and near Munich.
Started out well, later got some ugly and cowardly comareds who would try to blame others to ride them in deep shit among them was one officer, such of the kind you would have hard time not slap in the face. Had a hard time to serve under this scum, almost hit him, was then relocated to Supply and ordonance chain as a punishment, had much better time there. Was overall ok, except the rising amount of assholes that you would shot yourself in wartime than any opponent forces.

Nope but I did jump from a moving truck, then run to catch up to it and jump back on it, fighting my way into the cabin Indiana Jones style. Beat that Smile

    I did not..
But did you ever have a big blister on your foot which you tried to treat yourself because you didn't want to complain, only to end up with a big ass chemical burn that you then covered up and put your boots back over, and was only revealed at the medical inspection the next morning; to the gasps and bewilderment of the rest of your barracks; as to how you could continue on and not complain over such a nasty looking burn? pirat

you're hardcore I'll give you that Cool but let's not forget us VDV guys are the ones who are hardcore we have to break bricks with punches and chew on glass.  Hold onto a rope tied on the back of a truck while it drives, ect. I got a fever during training once and I was very patriotic at the time and like a idiot I did not tell no one even though I looked like shit. We were running for a few kilometers and I tripped over and I felt some pain on my foot but I kept running and when the run was over I told the sergeant that I have a fever and when I went to our beautiful nurse love I also told her about my foot and it turns out I fractured my ankle and I had a very bad fever,If you beat this I quit yes sir

OK all's fair, you're more hardcore. Coastal Troops of the Navy is about as far from the VDV as you can get in terms of training and equipment What a Face

But I bet you never stole a spare gas-mask from the warehouse on your last day of service, took it apart and smuggled it out among your belongings on the next day. Twisted Evil
I heard later that my commander realized I must have taken it - and was impressed with my audacity.

ten years voluntary millitary service in the dutch army. air assault branch. red berrets. 2004 to 2014.

i started out as the heavy weapon/AT specialist. but as you are not allowed to remain at your function more than 2 years i had some other functions as well. second-in-command of a squad, forward air controller and some other stuff. i always wanted to do one contract in the sniper position, but i never made it to actually requesting the function. shit always came up that eventually put me in another position.

two combat deployments to Afghanistan, uruzgan province.

it where an busy 10 years with lots of events.

i was asked to stay, but i refused and left at the end of my last contract. i still keep in touch with the guys i got to know in the last 10 years of service.

    lol no

Black berets are marines anyway. I was offered to go to the marines but I declined, no black beret for me Razz

Did you take a bayonet? You'll get in as much shit for that as for a gas-mask, maybe more.

Guy before me took.. a fking plastic id-sleeve with him when he left. My commander was ripping on him for that, for of all things to take something so comically minor that no-one will even notice anyway.

Even if the commander gave me trouble I would have beat the living s**t out of him, My knife was in my back pack and yes it was a bayonet.  Staying in army service for 4 years and then some douchebag commander is gonna put me in trouble for a bayonet... Twisted Evil But he was a alright guy.  I was even gonna try to smuggle out a makarov but I realized that I would have get in big time trouble.. flaming python I was just wondering,  Did you ever witness dedovshina or get into any fights?

Short service of 3 months. CNG in '15 as infantryman. At boot camp I was immediately assigned (Captain ordered from the moment I set foot on the platoon) as acting Staff Sergeant, as we lacked a second warrant officer. After basic got attached in internal security infantry. Night patrols, Guard duty, forward post manning, observation post and Brigade Ops Center room duties were on the menu. Joined in my late 20s with a heck of STEM degrees (incl. a PhD) so I was treated with much respect by all NCOs and officers. During live-fire exercises and in-range I was chief ammo bearer, supplier and range master's assistant (red helmet). I'd get to fire last, ergo I'd fire quite a bit of ordnance downrange (possibly x3 times as much as others) but also try some of other folk's issued weapons.

Nice break from civvie life and lots funny stories lol1

Hey mods, whoever put my title in green, I am flattered by the honor but I have to decline, there are a lot of people here with conscript service experience and I don't think it's right to put me in with the career servicemen.
