Quick question why did the U.S. Navy decide to choose 2 Littoral Combat Ships designs, instead of just 1? Both the radical and conventional design were chosen, which to me is a head scratcher, especially logistic wise. The radical boat design being the Independence-Class and the more traditional boat design being the Freedom-class:

    Independence-Class...

    Freedom-class...

    Couple of reasons...

First, they are built for slightly different requirements, and as such are better optimized in certain areas. The Independence has a larger cargo hold and is more adaptable, while the Freedom is more maneuverable.

    And because of corruption. Wink

The same reason Russia is buying 2 (well, 3 ) attack helo types.

So that both yards get work.

The modern US army: unfit for service?

    http://www.theguardian.com/world/2012/aug/31/us-army-racism-iraq-afghanistan

This is a stinging criticism of the U.S. Army and in some respects i am correct, but it does not target the real culprits, the U.S. policy makers who control the quality of the enlisted ranks..

Who would've thunk that there is such a good collection of US military photos on a site virtually dedicated to the Russian Military?

Keep it up F-15E! I for one enjoy seeing these pictures.

Must be photoshopped because only Russians do that... and they do it because Russian armour is so poor it is safer sitting on the outside... NOT. russia

Maybe it is a new Abrams model with an autoloader and the autoloader just ate someones arm so they decided to drive on top of it to avoid interaction with the arm eating autoloader, because autoloaders prefer "loading" arms over ammunition.

Oh really? I thought they were sitting on top to demonstrate how the clearly superior gas turbine engine of the Abrams can haul so much ass.

This is a bit of a circle-jerk but hey, Russia is kicking arse and taking names, so it's a good time to chill and mock the Americans. Very Happy

Remember having exercise during my infantry training with tank servicemen on M84A when we were joking about autoloader "eating" your arm, and one lieutenant said: "If your arm gets into loader, you do not deserve that arm anyways".

Funny thing is that in the 1980s I used to scan the Moscow parades for all the one armed tank men units...
