    Sino-Soviet border conflict 1969 Empty Sino-Soviet border conflict 1969

The Sino-Soviet border conflict was a seven-month undeclared military conflict between the Soviet Union and China at the height of the Sino-Soviet split in 1969. The most serious of these border clashes—which brought the two communist-ruled countries to the brink of war—occurred in March 1969 in the vicinity of Zhenbao Island on the Ussuri River, also known as Damanskii Island in Russia. Chinese historians most commonly refer to the conflict as the Zhenbao Island incident. The conflict was finally resolved with future border demarcations.

What made the Soviets angered was a Mao Zedong statement in July 1964, in a meeting with a Japanese socialist delegation, that:
"Tsarist Russia had stripped China of vast territories in Siberia and the Far East as far as Kamchatka. China still had not presented a bill for this list. "

Chinese defensive fortresses of the period of confrontation with the USSR

The web-site china-defense.blogspot.com published interesting material about the giant fortifications built in the People's Republic of China in the period of confrontation with the USSR in the 1960s and early 1970s in Northeast China - mostly near the Soviet- Chinese and Soviet-Mongolian borders. The seven huge artificial hill fortresses that were built were supposed to be obstacles to the Soviet military invasion that the Chinese leadership was supposed to do, which could be aimed at overthrowing the Maoist regime in Beijing and establishing pro-Soviet rule of "healthy forces in the CCP" [from the bmpd, recall that, according to the apocrypha, Minister of Defense of the USSR AA. Grechko allegedly appealed to the Soviet leadership in 1969 with a proposal for such an invasion].
