Privet from an American Russophile Empty Privet from an American Russophile

Post  Russophile Fri Mar 14, 2014 4:28 am

Hello everyone!  I am happy to be able to join this site and communicate with others who have a great interest in Russian military affairs.

I have a bachelor's degree in Russian/Soviet history and have always been interested in the Russian military.

My first question is which threads are used for discussion of Russian air defenses, the PVO?  Do I go to the Air Force thread for that?

My second question is that I see on Youtube what appear to be Ukrainian S-300 batteries (about eight of them) moving towards Odessa.  Question:  Are Russian pilots trained to evade and use ECM's on Russian anti-aircraft missiles such as the S-300?

    Spasibo bolshoye & thanks!

    Welcome, Russophile.

Most of the air defense threads are under the "Russian Air Force" topic.

    welcome Very Happy

There is no longer a PVO as such... the PVO was part of the Air Force, but is now its own separate branch combined with the space defence forces and now called the aerospace defence forces... or VKO or VKKO.

Hello Russophile..Although I am not as active member as other members here.
I would like to put mu point of view on your Ukrainian question.

My second question is that I see on Youtube what appear to be Ukrainian S-300 batteries (about eight of them) moving
towards Odessa.  Question:  Are Russian pilots trained to evade and use ECM's on Russian anti-aircraft missiles such as the S-300?

First thing to note that the crews of the such battalions , regiments
    are not of Ukrainian loyalty.

They can vary. The chain of command in Ukrainian air defence is not as strong
as strong one might think of.

The russian Nval spetnaz can take care of Odessa and also other neighbouring regions
    (Kherson which already is Russian).

I dont think Ukranian S-300 will pose any danger to Russian fighters.

    1. The loyalty is dubious.

    2. The chain of cmd not present at all.

    3. Strong dislike of present Government.

    4. hUGE OF Russian navl infanty and latest smart weapons like yakhont filling
all the coastlines all over Odessa.

    5. that Russian Yakhont deployed in Crimea and very shortly off the coast
in Odessa is a dedicated ABM buster almost as equal to Iskander.

Not much details are know but what is known Russian version of yakhont is a dedicated land attack
(as well as naval attack) missile with lots of counter measures as smart seeker , precision homing, ECM ,manuevring ,
    etc

All in all Ukrainian S-300 are a least priority for Russian Naval deployments all over Crimea and Odessa.
