Issues with the Chinese engine is not good but a much better excuse for commissioning delay than just a storm they previously gave.
Not exacty unexpected though, there were warnings about that when it was first announced, hopefully new bits on the way quoted by Flotprom will solve the issue.
The source added: "Now engineers in close cooperation with the fleet are eliminating the problems, in the near future elements of a two-stage turbo-supercharging system will come and defects will be eliminated,"
At least if there is a new boat being laid-down there is reasonable confidence that it will Very Happy

Thats an unusually small & poorly put together bit of steel Suspect
Looks more like a bit of welding practice than a proper ship.

Middle of that weld is done properly, top and bottom are outrageously bad.

Exactly.
Ppl over at Balancer had same reaction too, no sign of a good explanation.
There was something about Zelenodolsk allegedly rolling out the same module for all the initial 22160 laying down ceremonies, I suspect a method of officially making progress to get funding to cover existing delayed progress.

Presumably going into service soon means the engine mods were successful.
Hopefully also will mean that the other 5 in construction (2* laid down in 2014, 1 in 2015 in particular) can follow on with relatively short intervals.

SEVASTOPOL, June 1. /TASS/. Russia’s Black Sea Fleet has held an official ceremony to accept the latest Buyan-M-class missile corvette Vyshny Volochyok for service, Fleet spokesman Captain 1st Rank Vyacheslav Trukhachyov said on Friday.

"Vyshny Volochyok" is the 6th ship of Buyan-M project and first to go in BSF.

The first two ships of project 21631 "Grad Sviyazhsk" and "Uglich" (plant numbers 631 and 632), built in Zelenodolsk, were introduced to the Caspian Flotilla of the Russian Navy on July 27, 2014, and the third "Veliky Ustyug" (plant number 633) - commissioned the Caspian Flotilla on December 19, 2014. The fourth and fifth ships of Project 21631 "Zelyony Dol" (serial number 634) and "Serpukhov" (plant number 635) were built in Zelenodolsk under a contract dated October 19, 2012 and became part of the Black Sea Fleet on December 12th. In October 2016, both ships went to the Baltic Fleet.

5 more to come

"The warship Orekhovo-Zuyevo is in a high degree of readiness, followed by the Ingushetia, the Grad and the Naro-Fominsk, and also by one more warship that will worthily bear the name of one of the leading cities of the Russian Federation," the rear admiral said.

Russia to upgrade Buyan-M-class missile corvettes

http://tass.com/defense/1007641

...The Project 21631 Buyan-M-class missile corvettes will be modernized and furnished with new radio-electronic weapons and air defense capabilities, Russian Navy Shipbuilding Department Head Rear Admiral Vladimir Tryapichnikov said on Friday.
"Overall, 12 warships of this series are planned and their further development will be renewed, considering progress both in radio-electronic weapons and air defense capabilities," the rear admiral said at an official ceremony of raising the St. Andrew’s flag on the Project’s sixth warship, the Vyshny Volochyok....

So what are we looking at here? Pantsir-M without autoloader for quick upgrade or deeper retrofit for full package? Or just electronics update?

BMPD link says next one should be sent down river fairly soon 'summer' and expected in service before end of year.

Why not the full shebang? Up on a plinth if there isn't enough room below, presumably they'd put it in place of the Duet (and remove the Ghibkas?)

Supposedly the last 3 are being built to an upgraded spec, with rumors of Pantsir-M so not sure if this would be just reference to those or actually alterations to existing ships?

Edit: I did a crappy photoshop

In the smaller Buyan there is a rocket launcher and the stern. The Duet sits roughly on its place in the Buyan-M. Therefore a Pantsir should be possible.

Why not just put some Kh-35s on the first buyans instead of the stupid MLRS?

They are river boat. So they use MRLS to support ground forces around big rivers.

Russia already has monitors for that. They can install an MLRS or PT-76 turret on any rusty trawler or barge and it will do the same job as the buyan.

Besides, there will never ever be a conflict that needs river boats, at least not one Russia is involved in.

They are already building 9 Karakurts with 9 more on order that will be doing same job

No point wasting time upgrading old Buyans (which can't even be properly upgraded to begin with)

Well they find out that and moved to buyan-M and now to Karakurt.

They can also be used to assist landings in baltic sea

I meant the Buyan-M is a descendant of the Buyan, which has enoug internal space at the stern to put a automatic loader with 80 rockets there so the Pantsir should fit there.

Definitely a good point.
On the other hand it looks like there is more change than just 'remove Grad, place Duet'.
Quite possible the interior changed a lot & might not be easy to re-add Pantsir reloader, also possible that they did retain that area, just repurposed to something easily restored like a storage locker (and at least some of it is gonna be ammo for the Duet).
I'd say cautiously optimistic that Pantsir-M can go there without much issue.
