Any hint if they are eyeing any fighters (MiG-35 or Su-30)?

Russian manufacturer signs contract for supply of 12 Mi-8MTV-5 copters to Belarus

The Belarusian military will get the helicopters possessing the same parameters as those used by the Russian military

KUBINKA /Moscow Region/, June 16. /TASS/. The Helicopters of Russia has concluded a contract with the Defense Ministry of Belarus for the supply of twelve Mi-8MTV-5 military transport helicopters in 2016-2017, the holding company’s CEO Alexander Mikheyev has told the media.

"The Mi-8MTV will let the allied state enhance its defense capabilities and expand the potential of the armed forces," he said on the sidelines of the Army-2015 show. "The conclusion of such a large-scale contract has become yet another step towards strengthening friendship and business relations between the two countries."

The contract will be performed in keeping with the Russia-Belarus agreement on development of military-technical cooperation concluded in late 2009. The Belarusian military will get the helicopters possessing the same parameters as those used by the Russian military.

    Russia - Belarus Military Contracts

Post  jhelb on Wed Jun 17, 2015 6:30 pm

Belarus in talks with Russia on supplies of S-400 missile systems

Four Russian S-300 missile systems will be stationed by the end of this year in Belarus, while the issue of delivering S-400 missile systems to Belarus from Russia is being discussed, Belarusian Defense Minister Gen. Lt. Andrey Ravkov told TASS in an exclusive interview on Wednesday.

"In the framework of creating a joint regional system of missile defense , four divisions and command post of S-300PS missile defense systems will enter service at military units of Air Force’s Anti-Aircraft Missile Troops and Air Defense Troops stationed in the Hrodna, Brest and Vitebsk Regions," he said. The issue of delivering S-400 missile systems to Belarus is the stage of discussions, Ravkov noted, adding that "it is yet premature to talk about concrete dates."

The defense minister stressed that bilateral cooperation in the military-technical sphere is developing dynamically, and "Russia is Belarus’ main partner in delivering military products, as well as in repair and modernization of weapons and military equipment," Ravkov said. He also noted that many military products were delivered to Belarus from Russia on the basis of the bilateral agreement on developing military-technical cooperation "with a discount for the Belarusian side."

In 2014-2015, "around 50 contracts were signed on favorable terms on delivery, repair and modernization of anti-aircraft missiles, communications and radio-electronic equipment, small arms and artillery weapons, ammunition, aviation technical equipment for the Belarusian Army," Ravkov reminded. "Most of those contracts have already been fulfilled," he added.
"Thanks to mutual understanding of importance of the tasks we face in ensuring defense capabilities of the Union State [of Russia and Belarus], we always manage to reach acceptable solutions on all arising issues with our Russian colleagues," Ravkov stressed.

Belarus Asks Russia for 'Means of Destruction' to Defend From Poland

Belarusian Defense Minister Andrei Ravkov said that the country needs weapons systems to defend itself from NATO countries rather than an air base, which was the subject of speculation earlier.

Belarus needs weapons systems to defend itself from a militarizing Poland, the country's defense minister Andrei Ravkov said on Thursday, arguing that his country does not need a Russian military base.

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko was previously said to be in talks with Russia over a proposed airbase in the country, although he later denied it happening, saying that Belarus needs missiles more than airbases. Lukashenko went on to win in the country's presidential elections on October 12 with over 84 percent of the vote. Following the elections, European Union sanctions against Belarus were lifted.

"What is the point of putting an airbase on Belarusian territory? For now, there is no point. Our thoughts are these: our neighbors, especially the newly elected president of Poland, he is asking NATO and they agreed, to put four bases of various use, including aviation, in the immediate vicinity of the Belarusian border. And the answer is simple: maybe we will take some sort of means of destruction which can in good time and at the right place strike these objects? That would be much more effective than an airbase," Ravkov said.

Lukashenko previously expressed concern about NATO activities around Belarus, and criticized Russia for not providing enough defense support. He later spoke out against having a Russian air base in the country, saying that Russian aircraft can take off from Russia's Smolensk, across the border from Belarus, with the same success.

In terms of missile systems, Belarus has developed a long-distance multiple rocket launcher system called Polonez ("Polonaise") together with China, which exceeds the capabilities of known similar Russian systems.

    Very suspicious...

They do not want a russian AFB, not that they consider a detterance weapon more valuable, they just do not want AFB entirely but a detterance weapon. If they are to overthrown or siding with US they could use the very same weapon as detterance against russia. That means only one thing russia is the only one that would have safe use of it in Belarus to keep detterance against US(NATO) and against coup de etats, traitors to slavic people.

"This year, Belarus also gets nuts – five training Yak-152, spare parts for aircraft and helicopters, some complete helicopters, tank engines and other supplies. Minsk seems to have already given up on hopes of replacing the aircraft it inherited from the Soviet Union with modern fighters." - Twitter

Seems Belarus might be first foreign buyer of Yak-152 trainer.

"Belarus developing the new long-range cruise missiles with a non-nuclear warhead (there is evidence that they were called “Aist”). The new missile is designed to avoid radar detection and penetrate enemy air defences Belarusian defense industry is not the first to take part in the project for the creation of the PTRC, equipped with cruise missiles. Thus, in the International Defence Industry Exhibition IDEAS-2008, Pakistan introduced a mobile launcher cruise missiles «Babur» with Ukrainian engines and chassis Minsk Wheel Tractor Plant (MWTP) MZKT-79292.

Belarus may also receive Ukrainian engines MS350 and MS400. Back in early 2012, the Ukrainian company “Motor Sich” has sold 60% stake in Orsha Aircraft Repair Plant. It was found that one of the conditions of the transaction, inter alia, been adjusting production of gas turbine engines. With the light of contemporary realities, it is obvious that in Orsha prepared (or ready) to start production of missile engines MS350 or MS400 for the needs of Belarus."

"A preliminary agreement has been reached on delivering Russian-made Sukhoi Su-30 (NATO reporting name: Flanker-C) multipurpose fighter jets to the Belarusian Air and Air Defense Forces, Belarusian Deputy Defense Minister Igor Lotenkov said on Thursday. The Su-30 fighter jets will replace Mikoyan MiG-29 (Fulcrum) aircraft operational with the Belarusian Air and Air Defense Forces, he added.

"The Su-30 fighter jets will boost the potential to destroy aerial targets. Their big operational range will allow flight crews to accomplish combat missions from any airfield in the country," the newspaper Belarus Today quoted Lotenkov as saying.

According to him, the MiG-29 aircraft have been operational with the Belarusian Air and Air Defense Forces for about 30 years. "We have calculated how much we have to spend on their maintenance and come to the conclusion that the fleet renewal, although with a less number of aircraft, will not require such considerable amounts of finance," the Belarusian defense minister said. According to him, "the total potential of Belarusian aircraft will remain virtually the same." He also said that the 558th aircraft-repairing plant in Baranovichi could provide maintenance and repair for Su-30 fighter jets.

Belarusian Defense Minister Andrei Ravkov said in late 2015 that Belarus was planning to purchase Su-30 fighter jets, as well as continue buying Yakovlev Yak-130 (Mitten) combat trainers and Tor-M2 (SA-15 Gauntlet) air defense missile systems within the framework of military and technical cooperation with Russia. "We will continue renewing the aircraft fleet and providing air defense missile and radio technical forces with military hardware in the imminent future within the framework of bilateral cooperation with Russia," the Belarusian defense minister said. "We are planning to purchase Su-30 and Yak-130 aircraft and Tor-M2 air defense missile systems," he added."
